Starbound 2-D animated pilot
Efrain "Ashendis" Torres for Vexar (villain-large role)
Vexar (villain-large role)
About Vexar
Vexar is a powerful, regal and intimidating antagonist with a television-shaped head and a distinctive, animal-like appearance. He commands attention wherever he goes, carrying himself with confidence and authority.
He isn’t simply an angry villain. Vexar is intelligent, calculating and capable of sounding charming when it benefits him. He prefers to stay in control, and even when he sounds calm, there should be a sense that something dangerous lies beneath his words.
We’re looking for a voice that feels distinctive, memorable and theatrical without becoming a generic monster voice. We want someone who can make Vexar sound convincing, whether he’s speaking quietly, making a threat or revealing his excitement about a new opportunity.
Vexar will have quite a lot of singing scenes and solo parts later in the series so he needs to have the ability to sing.
You’re welcome to include an additional original line if you want to demonstrate your interpretation of Vexar.
Voice Requirements
● A confident, distinctive voice suited to a powerful villain.
● Ability to switch between charm, intelligence, menace and controlled anger.
● Clear pronunciation and expressive delivery.
● Willingness to take direction and provide additional takes.
● A quiet recording environment with minimal background noise.
You don’t need professional voice-acting experience or expensive equipment. Phone recordings are welcome as long as they’re clear, with no added music, sound effects or voice filters.
Future Role
Vexar is planned as a future character who will appear later in the season, rather than having a major speaking role in the pilot. We’re casting early so we can find the right actor and plan ahead.
If selected, you may not need to record anything immediately. The role, expected workload and recording schedule will be discussed with you before work begins.
A villain song may also be planned for a future episode. Singing is a bonus, not a requirement for this audition. Any song would be handled separately, with its own lyrics and instructions.

● Schedule: Recording dates, deadlines and workload will be discussed and agreed in advance.
● Collaboration: You’ll work with the director to develop Vexar’s voice and personality.
We’re looking for someone who can make Vexar genuinely memorable — a villain whose words can sound polite one moment and terrifying the next.
