What's the role?

We’re looking for a Lead Composer to create the original soundtrack for Ruins of Tomorrow.

You’ll be responsible for creating the game's main musical identity, including themed tracks, character themes, emotional pieces, exploration music, ambient music, tense moments, and other music needed throughout the game.

The soundtrack should feel southern, country, atmospheric, emotional, lonely, and grounded, while still fitting a post-apocalyptic world.

We're looking for something inspired by the feeling of The Walking Dead and the emotional atmosphere of Ruins of Tomorrow, without copying either soundtrack.

Think:

  • Southern / country influence

  • Acoustic guitar and other organic instruments

  • Ambient textures

  • Emotional and melancholic themes

  • Quiet, lonely exploration music

  • Darker atmospheric pieces

  • Tension without always becoming "horror music"

  • Music that feels natural to the world rather than overly cinematic

The composer should be able to create music that can stand on its own while also supporting the game's story and atmosphere.

What you'll deliver

Depending on development needs, you may be asked to create:

  • Main theme

  • Character themes

  • Emotional themes

  • Exploration / travel music

  • Ambient background tracks

  • Tension and suspense tracks

  • Major story themes

  • Menu / title music

  • Chapter or location themes

  • Short musical cues / stingers

  • Alternate versions or variations of tracks

  • Seamless gameplay loops when needed

The exact number of tracks will be discussed as development progresses.

Inspiration

Here is some inspiration to get you going:

  • Red Dead Redemption Theme Instrumentals (exploration/free roaming)

  • The Walking Dead Featured & Theme instrumentals

Software

Use whatever professional DAW and tools you're comfortable with.

Examples include:

  • FL Studio

  • Ableton Live

  • Logic Pro

  • Cubase

  • Reaper

  • Pro Tools

  • Other professional music-production software

You do not have to use a specific DAW. What matters most is the quality and style of your work.

What we're looking for

Required:

  • Strong understanding of melody, atmosphere, and emotion

  • Ability to compose original music

  • Able to create music around a specific mood or scene

  • Good mixing and production quality

  • Able to take direction and revise tracks

  • Consistent communication during development

  • Portfolio or examples of previous work

Preferred:

  • Experience composing for games

  • Experience with ambient music

  • Experience with country / folk / Americana

  • Experience with cinematic or narrative music

  • Experience creating looping game music

Is this a lead?

Yes. This is a Lead Composer position.

You would be the primary person responsible for ROT's musical direction and would work directly with the game's development team to establish and maintain its soundtrack.
