Character Description

Denki Kaminari is one of Jon Magami’s classmates and friends in U.A. High School’s Class 1-A. He is sociable, energetic, excitable and naturally funny, often using humour to lighten tense situations. Although Denki sometimes acts impulsively or makes himself look foolish, he is not unintelligent or cowardly. Beneath the jokes is a loyal young hero who genuinely cares about his classmates.

Denki’s performance must balance comedy with sincerity. His humour should feel natural rather than exaggerated, and when a situation becomes dangerous, the audience should believe that he is frightened but still willing to fight.

Voice Direction

We are looking for a youthful, bright and expressive voice with strong comedic timing. Denki speaks quickly when excited and often sounds as though his thoughts are moving faster than his mouth.

The actor must also be able to deliver:

• Playful banter and awkward comedy

• Excited reactions

• Embarrassment and nervous rambling

• Genuine concern for his friends

• Serious and emotionally grounded dialogue

• Safe combat shouts, electrical attacks and exertion sounds

Kyle Phillips’ performance may be used as a general tonal reference, but we are not requesting an exact imitation. Please bring your own personality to Denki while remaining faithful to the character.
