Jake should have a youthful masculine voice with effortless confidence and a laid-back, “too cool to care” quality. He shouldn't sound like he's constantly trying to impress people. Most of the time, Jake genuinely believes he is impressive, and his popularity reinforces that belief. His normal speech can be casual, slightly cocky, and dismissive, with relaxed slang and an easy rhythm. Around friends like Eko, he should sound considerably more playful and energetic, especially when competition is involved. When dealing with people he considers uncool, such as Fliss early on, his insults should often sound casually mean rather than intensely hateful. Sometimes Jake barely seems to realize how cruel he's being because dismissing people has become normal for him. At his worst, his voice should reveal bitter entitlement and genuine hatred. Avoid making him sound like an obvious villain from his first line. The actor should be able to convincingly portray the popular guy people actually enjoy hanging around with and the ugly person underneath when his ego and social standing are challenged.
