Wings of Fire - Winglets #3: Deserter - Fan-Made Audiobook
Project Overview
I’m working to produce a fan-made audiobook of Wings of Fire Winglets #5: Deserter, which follows a SandWing named Six-Claws as he matures and realizes unquestioning loyalty isn't how he should live his life. Some things to keep in mind when auditioning:
-If you audition, you must join the Discord server for this project: https://discord.gg/aNMw2bsZnY
-By extension, Discord TOS requires you to be at least 13 years old. I will not accept anyone I find to be under 13, no exceptions.
-Leave your Discord username in the descriptions of your auditions so I know who to contact.
-Do 2-3 takes of each line, and try different tones and inflections.
-Ensure your recording is clear of any background noise.
-Absolutely no AI is to be used in any part of your submissions.
-It helps to have a copy of the book, but a full script will also be provided.
-Some roles have already been cast, like the narrator and Deathbringer, so they will not be on this page.
-Extras are not being cast here either. I’ll be contacting friends to do those once the public casting call is over.
-As this is a fan project, all of this is non-profit and unpaid. Wings of Fire belongs to Scholastic and Tui T. Sutherland.
-The last day for submissions is Saturday, February 28th!

Six-Claws is the protagonist of this book, as it follows his life leading up to and during the War of SandWing Succession. He ages throughout the book, beginning as a naive teen and ending as a disheartened army general. Six-Claws is calm, intelligent, and sensible, always wanting to be useful and productive. Loyalty is extremely important to him, even to a fault.

(He is a teen in this line, so he should sound younger) “Challenge the queen? Why would anyone do that?”
(Nervous) “I mustn't forget I have a new enemy now, too. And a new reason to hope that Queen Oasis lives for a very, very long time.”
“We’ll find a dragon we can truly trust and respect, and then we’ll have a reason to be loyal. I believe that dragon exists. You’ll see.”
Dune is a major character and begins the book as a wide-eyed teen with a head full of aspirations. He goes on to become a soldier as an adult and ends the book with horrific injuries.

(He is a teen in this line, so he should sound younger) “Dragonets are so aggravating. I want to be a soldier! I want to fight in battles and do glorious things and be a hero!"
“She said I have extraordinarily strong wings for a SandWing - almost like a SkyWing’s! She said I’d be commanding armies of my own in no time.”
(Bitter, and he’s injured here) “You always said it was so important to be loyal. I guess we’ve learned something about loyalty, haven’t we?”
Ostrich is Six-Claws’s mother and a high-ranking soldier, and she cares for him very much. She speaks with cautious respect to authority figures.

“She’s creepy, but the one Queen Oasis should get rid of is the other daughter, Blister. That dragon always looks like she’s murdering you with her eyes."
(Cautious) “Was it you, Your Highness? Are you now our queen?”
Quicksand is Six-Claws’s father and a chef in the SandWing palace. He’s shown to get annoyed easily. This is a minor character, only having lines in the first scene.

“That’s easy. The one who likes cutting the legs off jackrabbits just to see what they’ll do.”
“There was one flopping around the courtyard shrieking for an hour yesterday. Do you know how hard it is to stuff olives under those conditions?”
One of Oasis’s daughters and the main antagonist of the book. She has a morbid fascination with biological oddities and is the strongest of the three sisters, often using excessive force and intimidation to get her way.

“I didn’t kill her. But it wasn’t Blister either! I just saw her!”
“More dragons to fight! More territory to conquer! We’ll crush them all in a matter of weeks!”
“The next time you feel like questioning my orders, remember that your friend there has another wing … and a tail … and three working legs, all of which could meet with even more horrible accidents. Understood?”
One of Oasis’s daughters. She is very intelligent and cunning, always thinking of a new scheme to gain power for herself or eliminate competition.

(Scheming) "We should reward such a brave hero. I can think of a few missions he'd be perfect for..."
(Faking sympathy) “I mean, priorities, my dear brothers. Surely first we must find out who did this to our poor beloved mother.”
One of Oasis’s daughters. Blaze is the whiniest, most entitled, most spoiled brat of a princess you’ve ever met. Her jewelry is her top priority, and she cares little for other dragons beyond what they can do for her. She only appears as a small child in this book.

"You ruined everything and now I'll never find it! MOOOMMY!!!"
"Ew! Three moons! You really do have six claws on each foot! That's so weird! I can't believe you touched me with those!"
Smolder is a supporting character, mostly friendly but not above having others solve his problems for him.

"And draw their attention to me instead? No, thank you, that's not how survival works in this family."
(Grieving) “I loved her. We would have gone away forever and never come back! Mother didn’t ever have to see us again!”
One of Smolder’s brothers. He’s rather blunt and does a terrible job of comforting Smolder in his time of need.

“If you hadn’t made it so serious, Mother wouldn’t have had to intervene.”
“If none of you killed her … then, um … who’s our next queen?”
One of Smolder’s brothers. He’s very casual and does a terrible job of comforting Smolder in his time of need.

“Couldn’t you keep it casual like the rest of us? I have three girlfriends right now and everyone’s perfectly happy and not serious. And safe.”
“Maybe you two should fight right now. Whoever wins gets to be queen. That seems fair, right?”
Very minor character, husband of Queen Oasis. He is stern, but gentle.

"Your mother is overseeing the sandstorm lockdown. So you can tell *me* what exactly you were doing so far outside the palace."
"Brave and strong and a swift flier for your age - how would you like to join the army, Six-Claws? We could use a soldier like you. You could make your way up to captain pretty fast, maybe general one day."
Soft-spoken doctor and Six-Claws’s eventual love interest.

“It’s getting late, sir. You should get some sleep.”
“Apparently she might kill me even if I stay right here. I’d rather go with you. I trust you.”
This is an unnamed teacher who appears rather briefly. He’s an elderly man who’s constantly annoyed with everyone around him.
