Wild Westly is hosting its final Casting Call for Background artists, animators, and audio engineers as we gear up towards full-scale production on our pilot!!!
This will be a long one, so strap in and get ready to read!
Hello all!
It has certainly been a long time since April 2024, when we launched the first of many CCC pages for Wild Westly. Since then the team has expanded, the episode has come together, and insane progress has been made.
This casting call (with any luck) is our final post on CCC regarding Wild Westly's pilot. We're looking for talented audio engineers/designers, Character artists, background artists and animators to join our final team.
Winston S Lewis, Creator of Wild Westly
Why make a final CCC?
Between now and the end date of this CCC call, we will be launching our crowdfunding project over on Backerkit to fund the full episode. This final CCC is to reach as many artists and animators as possible before full-scale production begins on the final animation and to find the last few roles that we are still missing entirely in our team. It's early to be launching this CCC now, but we want to give anyone and everyone the time and opportunity to submit a portfolio if they're interested.
What risks are involved?
With no guarantee that our crowdfunding will succeed or that we can raise enough to pay decent wages for all of our artists, one of the purposes of this final casting call is to find artists who, if it comes down to it, would be willing to work on Wild Westly for free or low amounts.
It's not ideal for us to underpay artists, but given the uncertainty of indie animation and its success, we must prepare for the worst. The project will likely offer a set amount of money for a certain amount of animation completed rather than time spent on the project. This, of course, depends entirely on whether we barely reach our goal or exceed it spectacularly.
Does that mean that the project is unpaid?
No. Wild Westly has been a paid project since it initially launched and will continue to be so for as long as we can realistically afford it. We've always aimed to pay every voice actor, artist, and additional crew even if it's a small amount. The unpaid roles are a failsafe if fundraising fails or money runs out before the project's completion. We will not revert to making use of unpaid artists unless absolutely necessary for the survival of the project.
Wild Westly is a project made by artists for artists. From the start, one of our goals was to give voice actors and artists the chance to work on a (hopefully) big project and get paid for it, regardless of their experience level.
What does "future consideration" mean on some of the roles?
If the Wild Westly pilot succeeds, we'll be looking to continue the series. Here, we'll be looking for writers to help us with future episodes and the overall plot, and voice actors to consider for future characters, background characters, and as inspiration for character designs and behaviour. Additionally, we are always happy to keep tabs on illustrators, storyboard artists, and other pre-production artists who either missed applying for their ideal role for the pilot or weren't available to work on the pilot but may be in the future.
To reassure applicants who may be cautious, Wild Westly and all of its cast and crew are strongly and openly anti-AI. No writing, voice acting, or artist submissions are being gathered with the intention of feeding AI.
Likewise, the use of ai in submissions will immediately disqualify you from consideration.
