Wild Westly Pilot [Animators Needed]

Project Overview

Hot-headed outlaw Wylie Westly and his gang of criminal misfits go on a journey across the land of Rostrum, narrowly avoiding arrest while thundering across grassland and desert to take on their greatest rivals in a bug-eat-bug world.

Hello everybody, we're back on the search for talented freelancers to join the ever-growing team working on Wild Westly! With storyboards wrapping up and going through revisions, we're about to start picking out and doing the animatic for shots for our trailer! We're nearing a safe point to launch a Kickstarter to fund production fully, but first, we must prove that we can do it!

We're looking for a handful of animators to join our team for this early stage of production who have time on their hands and a passion for bugs! ...And animation, of course, but the bug part is undoubtedly more important. Wild Westly is an epic frame-by-frame 2d show, so we're looking for animators with a knack for understanding 3-dimensionality in their work and experience with action!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ~~

Currently, we are offering $325 per week on the assumption that we are hiring freelancers who work between 6 and 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. If there are any talented animators willing to work for slightly less we would appreciate that, but by no means do we want to underpay anyone. We would appreciate an estimate from experience how much you can produce a week for the role you are applying for, this is crucial for putting together an early production timeline and estimating how much of our remaining budget needs to be allocated to the trailer's animation team.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION OVER~~

Best of luck to you all, and I look forward to reviewing your portfolios soon! If you are interested in learning more about Wild Westly and our current team, visit https://www.topazanimation.com/wildwestly! Be warned, the "characters" page isn't up and running quite yet, but everything else should be in order!

Good luck,

Winston S Lewis, Director of WW

Latest Updates

  • Major production changes! (good ending)

Hello to all! It has been a while since anything regarding Wild Westly has been posted either here or on social media, so I feel as if I owe you all an update.

Wild Westly is still moving forward and being worked on, with the trailer almost complete! HOWEVER, Wild Westly, as it existed when we first set out to produce our pilot, is no more.

Instead of a pilot episode, Wild Westly will launch with episode 1 and continue linearly from there. We realised that the pilot did us no favours, as we never intended to pitch it and had always intended to work on the project in-house, and the pilot was unrealistically long to fit in all our characters and key themes. Raising enough money for the pilot we had would have been an impossible task, and the pilot itself would have been non-canon by the nature of it being... yknow, a concept. It was a lot of work and money for an end product that we wouldn't be proud of as creators and fans wouldn't be proud of as backers.

Although this seems like a step backwards in terms of production, what has been done for the project already (a LOT of pre-production) will not go to waste! Concept art, character designs, and early boards will still see the light of day, either in the finished product or in the art book we intend to release as part of our (eventual) Kickstarter promises.

Now for the part you want to hear: What does this mean for those who have auditioned?

If you have auditioned for an artist, pre/post-production, or VA role in the project, we're still keeping an eye out for you! We already have a few VAs bookmarked for future characters that we know we want to do, and some animators/illustrators saved for when we begin production. The behind-the-scenes changes within the project will not affect or squander anyone's chances of working with us!

I (Winston) am a first-time showrunner, and the dream has turned out to be a lot harder, longer, and more expensive than I had initially anticipated... but seeing the responses we got from talent and fans alike has been one of the key elements that has kept the project alive these last two years. Every mistake, setback, and rebirth has been a wonderful opportunity for me and the project, and we're fortunate that these learning curves and revelations have occurred before we were in too deep to make these necessary changes.

We truly want to make the best show we can, not just for people to consume, but for everyone who works on it to be proud of. We're so grateful for every single audition, comment, and collaborator who has supported our endeavours, and we hope to share concrete updates with you soon in the form of a trailer and a Kickstarter.

Best wishes to everyone who has auditioned, is auditioning, and will audition! Keep up the amazing work and keep creating however and wherever you can!!

Lots of love from Winston and the rest of the Wild Westly team!

  • Reaching out!

Wild Westly's lead storyboard artist and I have reviewed all the portfolios submitted up till today and have selected a chosen few to reach out to for work on the trailer.

If you applied for rough animation, expect a message within the next day or two.

If you applied for cleanup, expect messages somewhat later in production (within 2-4 weeks) when we have some rough animation to hand over to you.

If you don't get contacted, don't worry! This is JUST for the trailer, and many other animators have been shortlisted for when we launch our full-scale production once the trailer has been released sometime later this year!

Best of luck to everybody, and keep an eye out on your casting call inboxes!

  • Counting down

Hello everyone who has auditioned for or is following the project!

The shots for the trailer have been officially chosen, and its looking like the animatic for the trailer will be done by the end of this weekend. Expect the Topaz Animation team to be reaching out to people very soon to enquire more about their availability, speed, and checking that people are okay with working for the amount mentioned in the listing.

For anyone who hasn't had the chance to submit auditions and portfolios, don't worry! Not only do you still have time, but the Topaz Animation team have been saving portolios for future use when we start looking to expand our team when the full episode's production starts.

We look forward to speaking to some of you soon!

    Sincerely,

Winston S Lewis, Director of Wild Westly

Topaz Animation Studio is looking for animators for Wild Westly! Currently, we're just a couple of months away from being in a position to need animators for our pilot's trailer. We are looking for rough and cleanup animators. While we would prefer somebody capable of both, we are happy to receive separate applications for both roles or just one and not the other.

We are looking for people with existing animation experience who can mimic styles and are familiar with following storyboards and animation guides/bibles.

You will not be expected to work on the storyboards/animatics. As of writing this, the storyboards are complete and are going through revisions, and the animatic will be complete by the time we hire animators.

This role is looking for animators for our trailer specifically, not the full episode as of this moment. The trailer will likely be between 40 - 120 seconds. Please include within your application how many seconds of animation you realistically can produce in a week.

Animators who do not get these roles may later be considered for work when the full episode is in production.

Other info:
