Wicked: The Complete Genderswap
Project Overview
After the success of my long-running Les Miserables Genderswap project, my creative bug has coerced me to do the same for an equally popular musical: Wicked! If it's not clear by now, I adore genderflipped projects. To me, it is a fun way to reimagine a beloved work and give people a chance to play a role they would not normally be able to. For this project, we will be putting all of the show dialogue in with the music. While this means some visual jokes will be lost, it will also allow for both singers and voice actors to be involved. It will be a challenge, but one I am confident tackling!
*Everyone's name will be remaining the same with the exception of a couple minor characters*
RULES:
1) I am always willing to be flexible with deadlines as I understand real life has to come first, but I also won't wait around forever and will recast if you prove to be unreliable.
2) Please be open to the idea of accepting a role you did not originally audition for.
3) Mic quality will play a huge role in casting decisions. If you receive a better microphone after you submit your audition, you will need to submit a new audition rather than just tell me you have one. I am going to base my decision on what I hear.
4) When I cast roles, I also look at your CCC profile. The style of it (i.e. good grammar, the amount of information you supply, a profile picture) can influence my casting decision.
5) Communication will mostly be done through email, so you must have an email address that you check regularly. I will send cast-wide updates through Discord, so while one is recommended, it is NOT REQUIRED to audition.
FOR SINGERS:
1) For the sake of auditions, please sing the words as originally written. Changes will be made during the actual project.
2) You MUST be able to read sheet music. All singers will be provided the full score of the show and you must be able to figure out which note is yours according to your vocal part.
3) The chorus will be made up of two vocalists in each part: First Soprano, Second Soprano, Alto, Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Bass
Above all, have fun and best of luck to you all!

Latest Updates

Hello, everyone! Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be reaching out to some of you to offer you a role in the project. More often than not, the role will not be something you auditioned for, but be open to the idea of accepting another part! Thank you again to everyone who has taken the time to record auditions and callbacks! :)

Working on casting!
Hello, everyone! I just wanted to provide a quick update so you don't think I've disappeared. As I'm sifting through auditions, I will be contacting many of you within the next few weeks for one of two reasons: 1) to ask you to record more singing portions or more lines, particularly for leads since the vocal parts are so demanding, or 2) to ask those of you who provided vocal auditions if you are open to singing one of the parts in the chorus. Please note that just because I may ask you to record more for me, it does NOT mean that you are guaranteed the role. Most likely, you are not the only person I am contacting, and this is simply a way for me to hear more than what was provided in the audition and see if you fit the character well. It will take me a while to contact everyone I want to, so please be patient with me! Thank you so much to everyone who tried out! ~aspiringsinger15 -
Deadline extended
Thank you so much to everyone who was sent in auditions! I have heard some really great things so far! I am going to go ahead and extend the deadline for two more weeks. So if any of you wanted to audition for another part but felt you didn't have enough time, you can now go for it! Please be aware that I have this casting call up on other websites so not every role will be filled through CCC. Some of you sent in auditions for one character, but I might like your voice for another character. After the new deadline passes, I will be sending out messages to see if you are willing to accept a different role than the one you auditioned for. Thank you everyone for your willingness to create something with me, and good luck! <3 ~aspiringsinger15
Elphaba was born green, and as a result, has always been the outcast in society and his own family. This is not helped by his outspoken and sometimes controversial beliefs on how life in Oz should be. Upon arriving at Shiz University to care for his wheelchair-bound brother, Nessarose, Elphaba is roomed with the perky and annoying Galinda. The two instantly hate each other, but gradually earn each other's respect and become close friends. Elphaba's goal in life is to meet the Wizard of Oz, whom he believes will not care about his appearance and perhaps might even make him "normal". However, Elphaba learns that the Wizard is responsible for silencing all of the Animals in Oz. Elphaba steals the Wizard's spellbook which makes the Wizard turn him into a villain in Oz's eyes. Unbeknownst to him, the Wizard is actually his mother who gave birth to him after having an affair with his father and later gave him up to him. Elphaba eventually falls in love with Fiyero, despite the fact that Glinda is in love with her as well, and to his surprise, Fiyero returns his affections. After realizing Oz will never accept him or see the truth, the two of them fake Elphaba's death and run off together.

What? What are you all looking at? Oh, do I have something in my teeth? All right, fine, we may as well get this over with. No, I’m not seasick, yes, I’ve always been green, no, I didn’t eat grass as a child. Oh, this is my younger brother, Nessarose. As you can see, he is a perfectly normal color.
I just wish...I wish I could be handsome…for you. Don’t tell me that I am. You don’t have to lie to me.
I know it may be difficult for that blissful, blond brain of yours to comprehend that someone like her could actually choose someone like me! But it’s happened. It’s real. And you can wave that ridiculous wand all you want. You can’t change it! She doesn’t belong to you. She doesn’t love you, and she never did! She loves me! *Glinda punches him* (cackles) Feel better?

"Blithe smile, lithe limb
She who’s winsome, she wins him
Gold hair with a gentle curl
That’s the girl he chose
And heaven knows
I’m not that girl
Don’t wish
Don’t start
Wishing only wounds the heart
I wasn’t born for the rose and pearl
There’s a girl I know
He loves her so
I’m not that girl..."

All helpful urges should be circumvented
No good deed goes unpunished
Sure, I meant well
Well, look at what well-meant did!
All right, enough, so be it!
So be it then…
Let all of Oz be agreed
I’m wicked through and through
Since I cannot succeed
Fiyero saving you
I promise no good deed will I attempt to do again
Ever again!
No good deed
Will I do
Again!"
Galinda is your typical spoiled rich kid. He is adored by everyone who meets him, with the exception of Elphaba, his unexpected and unwelcomed roommate. He is a bit of an airhead, but for the most part, he is also kind and caring. After Fiyero arrives, he immediately captures her attention and the two of them go to the party at Shiz together. Galinda intentionally tries to humiliate Elphaba, but after Elphaba convinces Mr. Morrible to accept him into his sorcery class, Galinda feels terrible and rectifies the situation by saving him from embarrassment at the party. Afterward in their room, Galinda helps Elphaba gain confidence and feel handsome for the first time in his life. Galinda changes his name to Glinda out of "respect" for their professor, Doctor Dillamond, who was taken away from Shiz. He later becomes an Ozian official under the Wiizard and tries to keep the peace while everyone searches for Elphaba who has been painted out to be a villain. He becomes engaged to Fiyero (without her full consent), but is crushed to find out that she actually has feelings for Elphaba. Glinda later finds Elphaba and tells him that he has changed his life for the better before watching Elphaba "die" at the hands of a little farm boy from Kansas. He never finds out that Elphaba and Fiyero have survived, but he strives to make Oz a better place in their memory.

Biq, do you realize who that is? That’s Fiyero Tigelaar, the Winkie Princess whose reputation is so scandalacious! *saunters up to Fiyero* Were you looking for something…or someone?
Yes, well, a lot of us are taking things that don’t belong to us, aren’t we?
But that was the milk flowers and the drink’s fault, not yours. That may be your secret, Elphaba, but that doesn’t make it true.

Fiyero Tigelaar is a Winkie Princess who is spoiled, selfish, and lazy. Due to her complete lack of motivation, she has been kicked out of multiple schools and encourages her fellow students to be as careless as she is. She is initially smitten with Galinda, but after an incident in class where she and Elphaba rescue a Lion cub, Fiyero starts to see things differently. She later becomes Captain of the Guard in order to track down Elphaba, who has now been painted out to be a villain, and Glinda then surprises her with an engagement party. Though saddened about Elphaba's new status as a Wicked Witch and Glinda's reluctance to do anything about it, she agrees to marry him. However, when Fiyero is reunited with Elphaba, the two of them run off together and profess their love for each other. Fiyero sacrifices herself in order to let Elphaba get away from the Ozian soldiers and Elphaba's attempts to rescue her and keep her from being hurt result in her turning into a Scarecrow. Elphaba still thinks she's beautiful and after leading the rest of Oz to believe he is dead, they both leave Oz forever.

The mysterious Wizard is the reigning figure of Oz and is eventually revealed to be Elphaba's parent. In the biggest deviation this project has from the musical, the Wizard knows she is Elphaba's biological mother right from the start rather than realizing it only at the end. She was prepared to keep him, but after he was born and the baby was green, she left him on the doorstep of his father to raise him with his wife, the Governor. Despite giving him up, she harbors a sense of pride for the man he has become and is truly happy to finally meet him when he comes to see her in the Emerald City, though she does not tell him that she is his mother. Together with Mr. Morrible, she tries to get Elphaba to use his power to keep the Animals in Oz from speaking out or even being able to talk at all. She has a good heart, but it is ultimately warped with a twisted sense of ideals. The Wizard is truly devastated when she learns of Elphaba's demise and the fact that she helped lead him to it and readily agrees with Glinda's punishment that she leave Oz forever.

(in her "Wizard" persona) I am Oz! The Great and Terrible! Who are you and why do you seek me?
I know the real reason you came back here. It’s why everyone comes to see the Wizard. So I’ll grant their heart’s desire. You want to stop fighting, stop running. Elphaba, you’ve been so strong through all of this. Aren’t you tired of being the strong one? Wouldn’t you like someone to take care of you? Please, can’t we start again?
(to Morrible after Elphaba escapes with Fiyero) I’m afraid our new Captain of the Guard had other plans.

Mister Morrible starts off as the Headmaster of Shiz University. He is a very boisterous and outgoing man who uses many made-up words to prove his point. He is immediately impressed by Elphaba's powers and decides to teach him sorcery and later allows Glinda to join the class at Elphaba's insistence. He soon is promoted to be the Wizard's Press Secretary and helps the Wizard in keeping the Animals silent. The power in the position quickly goes to his head and he turns everyone in Oz against Elphaba and then keeps Glinda from saying anything differently. As Morrible is able to control the weather, he creates a tornado that kills Nessarose and brings Elphaba out of hiding so they can capture him. After Elphaba's supposed death, Glinda sentences Morrible to prison for his crimes against Elphaba and Oz.

Mr. Elphaba requested that I include you in sorcery class. He insisted I tell you this very night or he would quit the seminar. My personal opinion is that you do not have what it takes. I hope you’ll prove me wrong. I doubt you will.
Mr. Elphaba, there you are! Oh, I have thrillifying news! I’ve finally heard back from the Wizard, and my boy, she wishes to meet you! I know how devastrated you were the other day for our poor Doctor Dillamond. But you see, one door closes and another opens.
(realizing Glinda is deeply ticked off at him) Glinda, my boy, I know we’ve had our miniscule differentiations in the past...

Nessa is a handsome young man and he mostly gets along well with Elphaba, but he tends to see himself as a victim and look down on himself because of his disability. After Elphaba becomes an outcast, Nessa becomes the Governor of Munchkinland and is furious when Elphaba comes to see him, claiming that for all his power, he has not helped fix his legs. Elphaba enchants his shoes to allow Nessa to stand, but when Boq says she is going to leave, Nessa steals Elphaba's spellbook and tries to say a spell that will force Boq to stay with him. Oh, Elphaba, shut up! First of all, I can’t harbor a fugitive. I’m an unelected official! And why should I help you? You fly around Oz, trying to rescue Animals you’ve never even met, and not once have you ever thought to use your powers to rescue ME!

Boq is a citizen of Munchkinland and a student at Shiz University. She is hopelessly in love with Galinda, but unfortunately, Galinda has almost no idea who she is. Galinda convinces Boq to ask Nessarose to the dance at the Ozdust ballroom, and while Boq initially only does so in order to please Galinda, she ends up having a good time with Nessa after Nessa confesses that he knows she only invited him because she felt sorry for him. However, Nessa's attraction to Boq becomes dangerous to the point where he will do whatever it takes to keep Boq by his side. After Nessa becomes the Governor, Boq works as a servant for him and tells Elphaba that he has taken away all of their rights as Munchkins. When Elphaba helps Nessa walk for the first time, Boq confesses that she will be leaving to go tell Glinda how she feels about him since she has always been in love with him. Enraged, Nessa accidentally turns Boq into a person made of tin. Boq then further turns Elphaba into an outcast by telling the Ozians that it was him who turned her into tin and also turned the now-grown Lion into a coward by helping free her when she was a cub.

Dr. Dillamond is a history professor at Shiz University and a Talking Animal. She is very passionate about her profession and loves teaching students, even if they aren't very receptive. She is the victim of a hate crime on the first day of class when someone writes on the blackboard "Animals should be seen and not heard." Elphaba encourages her to not let it bother her, but Dr. Dillamond confesses to him that Animals around Oz are being pressured into forgetting how to talk at all. Soon after, she is forbidden to continue teaching and is replaced with a cold-hearted Professor who shows the students a trapped Lion cub in a cage. Elphaba crosses path with Dr. Dillamond again in the Wizard's palace in Emerald City and discovers that she is no longer able to speak.

Doubtless you’ve noticed, I am the sole Animal on the faculty. The token Goat, as it were. But it wasn’t always this way. Oh, dear students, how I wish you could have known this place as it once was. Where one would walk these halls and hear an antelope explicating a sonnet, a snow leopard solving an equation, a wildebeest waxing philosophic.
(as she’s being led away) You’re not being told the whole story! Remember that, class! Remember that!

Elphaba encourages her to not let it bother her, but Dr.

"And an owl in Munchkin Rock
A vicar with a thriving flock
Forbidden to preach
Now he only can screech!
Only rumors, but still, enough to give pause
To anyone with paws
Something bad is happening in Oz
Under the surface
Behind the scenes
Something baaaa…
Sorry, bad..."
Frexina is the Governor of Munchkinland, Nessarose's mother, and Elphaba's adoptive mother. She used to be kind and loving, but after Elphaba was left on her doorstep, she realized what her husband was doing while she was away on business trips. She helped to raise Elphaba, but she was strict and harsh and unloving towards him and blamed him for Nessarose's disability. When she drops Elphaba and Nessa off at Shiz University, she gifts Nessa with jeweled boots before ordering Elphaba to take care of his brother. She later dies of shame after Elphaba becomes an outcast.

Elphaba, stop making a spectacle of yourself! Remember, I’m only sending you to this school for one reason.
My precious little boy…a parting gift.
