Project Overview
Edit: Thank you so much to everyone who auditioned! I’m so grateful that so many people were interested in being a part of this project! I loved hearing your auditions and they were all wonderful! I’ve officially finished casting the characters, and I can’t wait to bring them to life. Be on the lookout for more projects coming in the future! I hope to see you again there!
Dating and Dragons is a student short film that follows a young dragon as he and his friends try their hardest to brainstorm a way to ask his crush out on a date. He’ll need all the help he can get, because unfortunately the love of his life happens to also be a dragon-slaying knight sent to patrol his mountain.
At roughly 2 minutes and 30 seconds, Dating and Dragons short, sweet, and silly, following a character that just doesn’t know when to shut up. The film is also contains lgbtq+ themes and characters, with the two leads being an MLM couple.
I’m looking for two voice actors to voice the main characters. Dragon, the main character, spends the majority of the runtime talking, and doesn’t let anyone else get a word in.
Knight, the love interest, only really has one to two lines, and is a much simpler role.
Since this is a student project, there’s basically no budget, however, if you join this project, you’ll of course be credited, and exposed to the rest of the students in my program for potential future roles.
Please have a somewhat decent microphone if you plan to apply, and be able to commit to recording your lines in a relatively quick timeframe.

Dragon is the main character of the film and is an excitable and enthusiastic young dragon. He’s got a lot of unearned confidence, and is a huge, inexperienced romantic. He’s got a huge heart, which is good since it makes up for his general lack of a brain. He tends to blabber on and on, without letting other people get a word in. He likes to talk the talk, but due to the fact that he lacks any real experience with interpersonal relationship, when he actually gets the chance to follow through, he becomes easily flustered.
Dragon is almost constantly talking throughout the entire film, and spends the whole time brainstorming ways to ask his love interest out. The majority of the film is a one-sided conversation between Dragon and his friends.
Dragon has a male voice, youthful but not too young. He’s in his late teens/ early 20s, so he should sound like that. Not too deep, but not too high either.

(A little breathless) Ok good, you’re all here already! Perfect! We’ve got a lot to go over and not much time, so let’s cut to the chase.
(gossipy, trailing off) No Exactly, cause you’d think that a bit of fire would heat things up, if you know what I mean. But then suddenly everyone has pitchforks, and they’re running you out of the village and its a whole thing…
(Dejected) I dunno… I know this is all kinda stupid but… I just really want him to like me…
Knight is your standard, charming, dragon-slaying knight. He’s confident, kind, and has a strong sense of justice. He is a very genuine person, and has a strong sense of self worth that has been forged in battle. His charm comes from his honest kindness, and while he doesn’t necessarily try to, he tends to win people over very easily. He assumes the absolute best of everyone, to the point that even if what was clearly a dragon approached him, he’d just assume that they must be a strange looking tiefling, and treat them kindly.
Despite the fact that his whole schtick is slaying dragons, ironically, Knight happens to be the love interest of one.
He should have a steady, soft yet strong voice. He’s sounds charming, but in a genuine way. It’s not a voice or persona he puts on, rather its simply his kindness showing through his voice.
