UNDERTALE Fandub Project (Episode 1)
Project Overview
Howdy! Thanks for taking a look at the UNDERTALE Fandub Project. As the title suggests, this will be a fandub series of the video game Undertale. I would also like to cover Deltrarune after the initial project has concluded, but that could still be years away, with Toby Fox having given no indication yet when the rest of the game might be out, but we will at least cover the first chapter that was released a while back. Beyond that though, who knows?
As for this project, it will be released as a video series on YouTube. For the Neutral/Pacifist Route, all of the different sections of the game (Ruins, Snowden, etc) will be a separate video, and after that is done, there will be a longer, one-part edited cut of the Genocide route, to focus on the changes, rather than being 'playthrough-style' as with the other routes.
For the primary cast of the story, I'm looking for people who are willing to commit to the project. Casting and scripting will generally happen per-episode, so reoccurring characters will get their lines/direction for the current episode I'm putting together, not all of their lines for the entire project. Due to the sometimes random nature of the game (and that I have yet to finish recording clips for the series), I can't really fix this.
For lesser monsters, such as Froggit, Whimsun, etc, I will be providing you with your entire set of lines. The reason this is different from the rest of the cast is due to the fact that, generally, they only appear again once or twice with new lines - during the Neutral route's path to Asgore, and during the epilogue of the Pacifist route if you go back across the world before heading above-ground (which will be happening in this series), and these lines are - to my knowledge - entirely set in stone.
Also, as a final note before I get into what little rules I have for this casting, I have a warning:
THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW. If you have not seen all of Undertale before, and want to apply, you will be spoiled about things. This goes without saying, generally, but I just want you to be aware that you are risking being spoiled by continuing. Honestly, if you haven't played it or seen it, doing so can be a great way to get an idea for the tone and help with auditioning, but I don't want to gatekeep the project in any way by saying you shouldn't audition if you aren't terribly familiar with Undertale, just be aware that there are spoilers below.
With that out of the way, the rules:
-You can audition for as many roles as you like, but you will only get cast for a maximum of 1 major/supporting role and 1-2 minor roles, so try to prioritise what roles you'd like to get/think you're suited for.
-Have a decent mic and recording area. I'm not asking for studio-quality audio, but try to eliminate as much background noise as possible, and please don't use a built-in laptop mic. Make sure your voice is clear, and your background noise is quiet.
-Last, but not least, have fun!

Finally, after a few setbacks, Episode 1 of the fandub is up. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3A00Ci1wSc
Flowey is a living, talking flower. He seems different from the other monsters within the underground. He seems nice at first, but the facade is quickly done away with. He should be able to switch from a sweet, saccharine kind of tone, to a more sarcastic and, at times, sinister one, when the situation calls for it.
Howdy! I’m FLOWEY. FLOWEY the FLOWER! Hmmm… You’re new to the UNDERGROUND, aren’tcha? Golly, you must be so confused. Someone ought to teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do. Ready? Here we go!
Clever. Verrrryyy clever. You think you’re really smart, don’t you? In this world, it’s kill or be killed. So you were able to play by your own rules. You spared the life of a single person.
...why? Why are you being...so nice to me? I can't understand. I can't understand! I just can't understand...
Toriel is the caretaker of the Ruins located at the base of the mountain. She is a motherly monster who is caring, if somewhat overprotective of the Human Child once they fall down. Her voice should ideally be more matured, soothing and soft in tone.
What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth…Ah, do not be afraid, my child. I am TORIEL, caretaker of the RUINS.
Do you smell that? Surprise! It is a butterscotch-cinnamon pie. I thought we might celebrate your arrival.
Ha ha…Pathetic, is it not? I cannot save even a single child. No, I understand. You would just be unhappy trapped down here. The RUINS are very small once you get used to them. It would not be right for you to grow up in a place like this. My expectations…My loneliness…My fear… For you, my child…I will put them aside.
Napstablook is a melancholic ghost that the Human Child befriends in the Ruins and meets up with again later on. Their voice should be downbeat in some way, as soft/dreary as their all-lowercase, floaty text style implies.
[The 'z's should be said as the actual letter, you don't have to do exactly as many as written] zzzzzzzzzz…are they gone yet zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…
oh gee…i usually come to the RUINS because there’s nobody around…but today i met somebody nice…oh, i’m rambling again. i’ll get out of your way.
after a great meal i like to lie on the ground and feel like garbage... it's a family tradition...
Froggit is a frog-like monster encountered in the Ruins. They don't seem to really understand the Human Child, but they are often not very aggressive, and seem to be interested in giving the Human Child advice more than anything. No particular voice in mind for the Froggit - the 'ribbits' can either be the actor imitating a frog's croak, or can be added in post by myself or the actor with an actual croak sound.
Ribbit, ribbit. Excuse me, human. I have some advice for you about battling monsters. If you ACT a certain way or FIGHT until you almost defeat them... They might not want to battle you anymore. If a monster does not want to fight you, please…Use some MERCY, human. Ribbit.
Ribbit, ribbit. Just between you and me...I saw TORIEL come out of here just a little while ago. She was carrying some groceries. I didn't ask what they were for... We're all too intimidated to talk to her. Ribbit.
Migosp is a socially-awkward monster, acts out in groups.
Mmm, cha cha cha!
Then...one day...the human became very ill.
Vegetoid is a vegetable-monster, eating it is good for you.
Eat Your Greens
The sick human had only one request. To see the flowers from their village. But there was nothing we could do.
Loox is a one-eyed monster that gets picked on a lot.
Finally someone gets it.
The next day...the human died.
One out of four rocks recommend you push them. This is the fourth rock.
WHOA there, pardner! Who said you could push me around? HMM? So you’re ASKIN’ me to move over? Okay, just for you, pumpkin.
In this series, the descriptive text of the world will be the voice of Chara, the First Human Child, and Asriel's adoptive sibling. This decision is due to the effect that the Genocide route has on the text. There should be two distinct tones here, with the same voice - something fairly innocuous for descriptive text, and something twinged with a more sinister tone for Chara speaking directly to the player, as in the final audition line.
Long ago, two races ruled over the earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS. One day, war broke out between the two races. After a long battle, the humans were victorious. Many years later… MT. EBOTT 201X. Legends say that those who climb the mountain never return.
(This ghost keeps saying ‘z’ out loud repeatedly, pretending to sleep.) Move it with force?
Interesting. You want to go back. You want to go back to the world you destroyed. It was you who pushed everything to its edge. It was you who led the world to its destruction. But you cannot accept it.
