Tugs: A bigg recreation!
Project Overview
Tugs is a late 1980s TV show filmed with real models in water and created by almost all of the original cast from Thomas and Friends excluding Britt Alcroft. With this project, I hope to revive Tugs and bring it into the modern world. Introduce it to several teenagers. Fix mistakes. Bring it up-to-date. All footage used was used from RandomThomasFan1 on YouTube, who uploaded all 13 episodes including the 4 20-minute cuts. Go there for voice and music reference. Once you audition, you can contact me on Discord. If you make the role as 3 or more characters, I'll send you the Google docs link to the rewritten scripts alongside videos of my temp voice and a link to a Playlist of all Tugs episodes as reference for your work. If you make the role as the musician, I'll send you links to several recreations or captures of the original themes. I will be the voices of Ten Cents, Warrior, Sunshine, Zebedee, Zak, Zug, Zip, Lord Stinker, and various extra voices. You have until September 3rd of 2027 at 5:00 PM to submit your voices. Have fun. :)
Big Mac is tough, strong, a country man, has a heavy Scottish accent, and does not joke when there's work that needs doing, but can have a laugh if he isn't busy.
Hercules is a laid-back, relaxed, city man, and is the older brother of Ten Cents. We all wish we had the ability to call others "m'dear" and still come off as straight.
Scuttlebut Pete is gruff, irritable, and talkative character who is not afraid to spread gossip and speaks loudly through his megaphone. He's the harbors janitor. What do you expect?
Big Mac: You be careful, Warrior. That's some high load you've got there. Just take it easy. We'll catch those Z-stacks, you see if we don't.
Hercules: Well, I'll tell you. They're the white fleet; down here from northern waters on the trail of an ice burg.
Scuttlebutt Pete: C'mon, you 2, or you won't get me home before the storm breaks! Me? I never gossip! Never!
O.J is the oldest of the group, Welsh, wise, but still has a very strong spring in his step and refuses to accept his age. He's also one of the coolest characters ever.
Grampus is a 2-man submarine, very dinky, has a nerdy sort of voice, a noticeable lisp from the water in his mouth, and very cheeky sometimes.
Zorran is a nasty character, and the main antagonist who appears the most. He's a pretty generic villain, but gets along with the Stars if the Z-stacks benefit as well.
O.J: Oh, I wondered why Zorran appeared so quickly. You're right, Ten Cents. Izzy could've seen everything.
Grampus: It's not use, they'll catch up to me again someday. Thanks for all the fun we had together.
Zorran: I'll tell you where you've been. You've been helping those Star switches, you creep!
Top Hat is a posh, snooty type who is not above putting down or mocking others for his own self-esteem. However, he's will help whenever needed, ready or not.
Frank and Eddie are Top Hat's railway barges, and nothing else really. Frank has a deeper posh accent, while Eddie is on the higher English side of the voice range. Snooty, rude, but also reliant of Top Hat.
Jack is a garbage scoop at the city dump with his claw as his mouth and a very gruff voice to match. He gets the job done so he can get away from the stench.
Top Hat: You know, it never fails to amaze me. Every day, I see something new. Today it's the sight of a floating sack of coal, no less!
Eddie: Always our fault, eh Frank? Frank: Never is, eh Eddie?
Jack: Nice job there. Very nice job. I can enjoy my day now. Good luck, Warrior.
Captain Star is in charge of his Star fleet. He's gives them their orders when the day begins as early as dawn. A very strict but understanding middle-aged man.
Captain Zero is in charge of the Z-stacks. Very Slimy, mysterious, and almost completely unknown to everyone. Possibly was and still is in the mafia.
Bluenose is the stand-offish, bossy naval tug who thinks he's in charge of every little thing, though becomes a stuttering mess after Munitions.
Captain Star: Good morning, Star fleet. Today I've charted another tug to help out with the extra work.
Captain Zero: SORRY?! SORRY IS NOT WHY I'M HERE! GET OUT OF MY SIGHT, ALL OF YOU!
Bluenose: Keep them in line! Straight as a row of marines! I'll check back once I'm done my inspection!
Sea Rogue is a very timid tug forced into a situation when his uncle Old Man is held hostage, and some green-eyed pirates force Sea Rogue to steal barges.
Big Mickey is a shore crane, and overall a very fair guy. He likes to help where he can, but unfortunately passed away when he was sunk in Munitions.
*Say something you think would fit*
Sea Rogue: You alright? Not hurt, are you? Old Man: I'm okay, but don't do it. It's wrong.
Big Mickey: I'm ready for you. I heard what they said. Hope you beat them to it.
Lillie is the most prominent female character, out at sea helping ships avoid rocks. She gets lonely, but always has Ten Cents and Sunshine in the evenings to talk to.
Sally is a sea plane near Lucky's yard, and has a sweet voice. That's it. I recommend you know French. In her one speaking role, she only speaks French.
Pearl is a barge who carries waste from the sea floor and sojnds like a young girl. That's it.
Man, Tugs doesn't use their female characters at all, do they?
Lillie: Nice to be appreciated, boys. You'll be in the regatta parade, I suppose.
Sally: Hello, Ten Cents. Who's your new friends? Thanks for the fuel, fellas.
Pearl: Congratulations, Warrior. *That's it. That's Pearl's big line.*
Little Ditcher is a filthy, disgusting, nasaley, "Oh my god, I wanna puke" looking water crane who helps with drenching the harbor beds and keeps them clear.
Mighty Mo is the rescue crane of the harbor. He never jokes, and helps whenever any sea craft is to sink. Even so, he will often explain the plan in detail rather than let everyone catch on along the way.
The Quarry Master is a cheerful guy, and gets along well with anyone and everyone. He's the manager of the Bigg City stone company, and helps load stone into barges.
Little Ditcher: Yeah, in uptown you'll be a hero. Think of that, Warrior.
Mighty Mo: Ten Cents, attach a line to Grampus, and on command, you'll pull him out.
Governor: Hey, Warrior! What a promotion! Great to see you off garbage detail!
Fire Tug is in the fire department of Bigg City port. He's stern, loud, and barks orders when emergency rises as any good fireman should.
The Pirate tugs are Slimy, on the wrong side of the law, and aren't above murder to get what they want. They are the characters who hold Old Man hostage.
The Coast guard is essentially the police boat, making sure everyone is following the law. He's also on quarantine duty during bad seasons.
Fire Tug: Sunshine, get that barge working, steal it between the frames, then swing it round!
Pirate 1: Changed our minds, see. Pirate 2: Deliver, or he sinks!
Coast guard: As for you, Izzy, I'll report this. Coming in without a tow means a heafty fine.
Izzy Gomez is the most prominent ship character. A cheap guy who will take up anyone offering the cheapest tow. He's also heavily Mexican and definitely a product of 1980s British writers. Side note: I recommend you learn at least basic Mexican Spanish for this guy. I also recommend you know Spanish. My rewrite features a lot of Spanish remarks.
Johnny Cuba is a gangster, has a inky history with Captain Zero, and isn't above threats to get people to do as they say. He gets his comeuppance and is arrested.
Old Rusty is an old ship who enjoys watching Warrior be stupid, for he's been abandoned for 2 years and gets very little action.
Izzy Gomez: Fine, 50. Most I give you for a tow. Si, I heard her already.
Johnny Cuba: Eha, sorry mate. The wind must've blown me off course! Gehahahahahahahaha!!
Old Rusty: Ohh, clumsy old tug, that Warrior. Life would've been half more boring without him!
Puffa is the only sentient locomotive character of the series, and is great friends with the Stars. He goes out of his way to help them ni matter what after they saved him from the fire in Munitions.
The Narrator is Captain Star's grandson in my version of the show. I mean, how does Captain Star recall what happened in 1927 all the way in 1989 without being extremely old, not to mention he sound the same.
There are so many minor characters who don't have names or proper voice lines. Little Owl never speaks, the Shrimpers barely speak, and various bell boys who come in and out of the port. It's your job to voice them all alongside myself. Feel free to give them whatever voice you think fits.
Puffa: A mass of logs, on their way down from the lake! Get down river fast!
Narrator: The tugboat, for ut's size, is the most powerful craft afloat. And the Star tugs are the power behind the docks and waterways that make up the Bigg City port. This is Tugs.
Bell boy: Hey, what's that light- Guh... Shrimpers: Hey, Warrior. You sure you know your way?
Coast Guard messenger is basically the news boy of the port, allerting others of any big fiasco.
Boomer is an unlucky tug who's done with his jinx. Originally named Captain Harry, he's grumpy, gloomy, and has one the funniest sense of humor ever.
Billy Shoepack is an alligator tug and has the personality and voice of Goofy as well as a pyromaniac who will blow up stuff like fireworks on July 4th.
Coast Guard Messenger: The captain is correct! She is sinking! The Zero's can't help!
Boomer: My name used to be Captain Harry. It was good then in those days.
Billy Shoepack: Dynamite's exiting stuff! Makes lovely big bangs!
I need you to help recreate some audio tracks that can't be fully recovered without some audio distortions and/or copyright. You can submit a recreation of the opening/ending theme song.
*Say something you think would fit*
It's your job to animate the mouths on the tugs to move alongside any human figures through windows or along a dockside. Do NOT lipstick the mouths of any sea craft. Only animated the mouths to show their mood. Submit an audition of the scene of the Star Dock at the beginning of the episode Sunshine.
*Say something you think would fit*
Your job is to help me correct any slip-ups, mistakes, or inaccuracies in my script. If certains things in the script won't work with the avaliable footage, you correct it in a way to make it work.
