TIED: A Student Thesis Film
Project Overview
Tied is a 2D animated narrative short film that follows Darcy, a recently laid off office worker, that decides to return to her portside hometown. During Darcy’s visit, home constantly reminds her of her recent “failure” and is faced with the challenge of repairing her relationship with her stoic fisherwoman mother, Pascha.

Pascha is a quiet, 60-something year-old, salmon fisherwoman, as well as being the mother to Darcy, the protagonist of TIED. Pascha is rather reserved and stoic. This exterior can come off as cold and apathetic, but in reality she is just rather quiet and decides to keep to herself.
*It is important for this role to be played by someone who can pull off an authentic older woman voice. We want to avoid having a stereotypical "granny" voice and can embody the spirit of a strong woman who just happens to be much older.

Darcy is the protagonist of TIED and a business woman in her late 30's that had just got laid-off at her corporate job in the city. She is also the daughter of the fisherwoman, Pascha. Darcy is a at a place in her life not really knowing what to do or where to go, she decides to return home, and stay with her mother briefly back in her boring, portside, hometown. Darcy is anxious, insecure, and a little necrotic.
*We're looking for something really authentic and natural sounding for her voice.

I can't go back to the city. I failed, mom. I was laid off. (solemn and disappointed)
You never tried to understand me, mom! I thought you just didn't care about me.. (distressed or frustrated)
Oh! Hey...It has been a while. How are you? (nervous/anxious and caught off guard)
One of Darcy's old classmates front high school. Very preppy kind of guy. He's super successful and life is honestly going great for him. Defintley is a member at a country club.

Hey! Is that you Darcy? (enthusiastic)
I'm doing GREAT! I've got a beautiful wife and kids and business is better than ever at the law firm. Who knew so many people needed lawyers?
Now enough about me! How are you?
Darcy's boss that makes the decision to lay her off. He tries to break the news gently but is inauthentic and putting on the façade that the company really will miss her, and just hates that he has to do this to her. (He delivers a speech like this every other day)

We love you as an employee..and consider you like family! That's all apart of the gig when you sign up for this industry.
I'm so sorry Darcy...But with recent budget cuts and the state economy, we have to downsize.
I hate to do this, but that's just business...
