Krissy is a natural leader. President of the Weavers. Typical Minnesota housewife with 2 kids, both in college. Loving and kind, but with a spine of steel. Hides a seedy past before she married her health insurance exec husband. Knows way more about the rougher side of life than her cushy, golf-course housewife demeanor should. Very resourceful and dependable. Natural leader, super organized and competent. Raunchy sense of humor that she doesn’t get let off the leash nearly enough.
Skills: the weaver of the group-binding spells is her specialty. Uses surgical tubing that she gets from Marie to bind the creatures. She doesn’t like to talk about why she’s so good with binding things with surgical tubing.

Ope, let me just scooch right on past ya there, Kitty.
He will be in charge of the guild’s social media! We’re going to have the Tiks and Toks, just like the kids!
I really wanted to be a backup singer for Great White. You know that video for Once Bitten Twice Shy? Yeah, I wanted to be the girl in the spangly bra. I did get to live that life for a little while but…Well, now I’m married to a wonderful man, with three fantastic children. And, you can’t beat the view from our deck of the back nine. I had, I mean have, everything. But, my kids are almost all grown up, and… is it greedy to want more? I don’t want to be greedy. I really don’t need more. No, I don’t want more. I have everything I could ever want. But a few years ago as we were taking our oldest to college, I was dozing in the car on the drive. I remembered something that happened when I was a kid. My grandma had this big loom in her house that she used to weave rag rugs on. Sometimes she’d let me watch while she wove her rugs. One day while watching her, I fell asleep, or at least I think I fell asleep. Next thing I know, I look around and the air is filled with golden strings criss-crossing all over. They were totally covering me and Grandma. I looked over and the strings were coming from her loom! Grandma was making those golden strings. The more she wove, the more strings covered her and me. A moment later, Grandma shook me awake. I looked around and didn’t see any more strings, but grandma was looking at me funny, like she knew a big secret. She sat me down on her lap and showed me how to work the shuttle. When I touched the warp, I could feel the strings vibrate, and if I blurred my eyes, I could almost see the golden strings again. I learned my craft from Grandma. Right after I graduated high school, I ran off with my boyfriend to New Jersey. He was going to be a rock star, and I was the backup singer. We lived pretty rough. A lot of things happened. I came back home a year later and my parents were just happy to see me alive. I used my weaving to keep me safe while on the streets. My weaving kept me safe that whole time. Now, I use my craft to keep my other Weavers safe.

Kitty is the Vice-president of The Weavers. Daughter of Irish immigrants. Extremely psychic. Natural medium, but feels really guilty about it. Her parents converted to Assemblies of God, but she rejected it. They thought maybe converting to American Evangelicalism that she would have less “spirit” stuff happen to her. It didn’t work. Her abilities have always scared her. Joining The Weavers has helped her become more confident, but it’s a work in progress. Over-compensates because of it, and can be bossy at times. Married, two kids, one a junior in high school, the other a sophomore in college at Augsburg. Husband is a corporate, K-street lawyer.
Skills: Knitting. Her skills have nothing to do with her power, as she’s the banisher. But, she has made lovely scarves for everyone that they all wear when they’re out on assignment.

Oooh, whatcha got there, Krissy? Looks real good [beat] but what are those green things?
The dead are around us, watching. They’re afraid. Not of us. But, so afraid. Afraid, afraid, afraid, afraid… (keep repeating)
Nobody knows how much I struggle every day. And, it’s not just the spirits and other entities that crowd out my mind. Every day is a question of: am I good enough? Am I pretty enough? Am I a good enough mother? Am I a good enough wife? My family were extremely religious and I was taught my powers were from the Devil. They came over from Ireland, and I was born shortly after. When I was about four, I started talking to ghosts. It freaked my parents out, and because they couldn’t get any answers from Catholic priests, other than take her to a child psychiatrist, they became evangelicals. By the time I was ten, I learned to repress my powers, or just downright lied about them. I lived that life until I met Krissy and everyone in high school. We all became Weavers together. I was a fat kid growing up. Well, looking back I wasn’t actually fat, but that’s what everyone called me because I wasn’t super skinny like all the other girls. I barely skirted eating disorders in college, but got healthy in grad school. Got a Masters in international relations, and got to travel all over the world. Not bad for a fat kid from Minnesota that had voices in her head. Now? Now I’m married to a wonderful man, a K-street lawyer. We live in a beautiful old Edwardian home close to Lake Bde Maka Ska, and have three beautiful children. I have…I still have voices in my head all of the time. Not the ghosts and spirits and beasties, those I know what they sound like and can block them. No, these voices all sound like my voice telling me that I’m not good enough. Why did I waste all of that money for grad school when I’m a housewife? Are my children really monsters? Did I fail my family by not ignoring my powers? This is where The Weavers come in. My friends for decades. My sisters for life. Even when they drive me crazy *cough* Emily *cough*, I know they always have my back. They never saw me as the fat girl, or the crazy girl. They always knew me. They’ve always been far louder than the other voices in my head.

___
The “mom” of the group, Secretary of the Weavers. Pediatrician with one kid that’s already in med school. A bit of a hypochondriac, and carries about every OTC med in her purse at all times, and the purse is the size of a duffle bag. Not the calmest under pressure, which is why she’s a pediatrician, and not an ER doctor or surgeon. Her husband is an ER doctor. The most talented singer of the Weavers, and frequently sings classical when she’s working.
Skills: Tatting. She’s good at it cos it feels like suturing wounds, which was one thing she was good at under pressure. She has a supernatural ability to diagnose illness and wounds and ability to heal.

Oooh, that’s a bit different, isn’t it? Never heard of hotdish with green peppers.
And you all call me Mom. Everyone, Krissy is now New Mom. C’mon, kids, settle down. Let’s hear what New Mom has to say.
I met Josh in med school. We both went to the U of M. We were study buddies. I knew from the start that he was going to be a great doctor. Me, not so much. I mean, I’m OK, with little kids at least. I was a mess in our trauma rotations. During our internship, every time I had to take a turn in the ER was a disaster. I had great grades, but my internship at the hospital was rough. To be frank, I’m not good under pressure. So, you may ask, Marie, why a doctor? Aren’t doctors always under pressure? Yeah, yeah, it’s true, which is why I’m a pediatrician and not a surgeon, or cardiologist. I did briefly think about being a dermatologist, but I just don’t care that much about beauty, and to be a successful dermatologist, you need to care about looks. But, I want to help people. I’ve always wanted to help people. When I was young, I sang professionally. I started taking voice lessons when I was young. I started singing in my dad’s church, then moved into doing it more professionally. No, not pop music, or gospel. I’m a Norwegian, Lutheran girl and pastor’s daughter. This was classical liturgical music. Anyway, I sang all through high school and into college. Won a lot of awards, got to sing at the Met, got recorded. And, you know what? I hated it. I mean, I don’t hate singing, i love singing, but I hate everything else that surrounds it. Singing is selfish to me. I do it for myself. It doesn’t help heal wounds, or cure disease. But, being a doctor does. When I sing, I feel things and know things. Like, I know the reason why the little kid’s tummy hurts, he shouldn’t have swallowed those marbles, let’s get an emetic into him STAT. Or, the little girl who won’t stop sleeping, I’ll hum a few bars of Vivaldi, and I’ll know that she’s severely anemic. Have these children’s vitamins with iron. I discovered this ability when I was in med school when I’d sing to myself to try to stay awake during rotations. Nobody knows about this ability but me, not even Josh, not even the other Weavers. Oh, the Weavers know I can heal, but not the mechanics. It’s me, being selfish again. But at least that selfishness helps people.

Treasurer of the Weavers. Religious, originally raised Protestant, converted to Catholicism when she got married. Three children, sent to Hill Murray. Eldest is a senior. Strongly psychic, but she doesn’t like to talk about it. Tries to be as normal and unassuming as possible, but because of her psychic power, has always had an “interesting” life that her parents didn’t want to talk about. Husband is in IT, but a writer on the side. She is the most gentle, kind, and open of the Weavers. Calming influence since all of the Weavers have strong opinions and personalities.
Skills: Sewing. She is the protector of the group as she sews spell bags of protection for everyone. Wards. Even though she’s strongly psychic, she is mild and non-confrontational, and prefers to hang back.

Nope, but it does sound nice. Hotdish can get a little heavy sometimes.
Lane, I know you’re new and this will be your first mission. Every briefing is secret. There’s powers out there that would do anything to know what we know.
One time at camp, I got chased by a moose. I know it sounds like a cross between a Monty Python skit and American Pie, but it’s true. And, the best part: it happened at a Church camp where me and a boy were out in the woods alone. I mean, where else can you get alone at camp? It was the summer before college, and I was going a little wild. We didn’t have sex, if that’s what you’re wondering, but, well, that moose did arrive at a good time. We spent the night in a tornado shelter terrified out of our minds. Every few minutes, that moose would slam into the walls and the entire structure would shake. Have you ever seen these shelters? They’re these sold concrete things built into the side of a hill. Nothing more happened that night other than almost shitting our pants every time it slammed the wall. I’ve known Krissy since we were 10. We then became friends with Marie in middle school, and Kitty and Emily in high school. We were an inseparable group. We were all in choir together, some of us were in theatre together, and stayed friends well into adulthood. I think what tied us together was our shared weirdness. I think we were always weird. I know I was. My parents don’t like to talk about it, but apparently I used to have conversations with my grandmother when I was little. My grandmother died a month before I was born. But I knew her! I knew she loved black-eyed susans, even though grandpa thought they were weeds. She taught me how to use the sewing machine. She sat beside me and showed me how the needle would move, and how the bobbin worked. I was 5 when I learned. After my mom caught me, she made my grandma go away, and she told me to never talk about her ever again. It was then that they converted to Assemblies of God. I think they thought that since the Church couldn’t fix me, maybe the American Evangelicals could. It didn’t work, and here I am. But, I’m still with all of my girlfriends that I grew up with.

___
Social Media manager, since he’s the youngest and understands internet culture much better and understands the TiksToks. Gay, mid 30s, married. Met his husband, Brad, at a Panic At the Disco concert. Knitter and dyer. Research chemist, and is always trying to find new ways to dye and make colors. Other than being gay, the most standard Minnesota upbringing: Lutheran, middle class (grew up in Minnetonka), played hockey, went to the U for college, ice fishes in winter, and he and his husband take the snowmobiles out every chance they get.
Skills: Clairvoyant: he “sees” things by color. He’s hypersensitive to colors and patterns, and can see when something is wrong. Sort of like auras, but it happens in everything.

Kitty, you ladies gotta expand your taste buds! I swear you think ranch is too spicy.
Oh no, I swear the sign said green peppers! Did I mistake ghost peppers for green peppers?
I met my husband at a Panic! At the Disco concert in college. I know, it’s the gayest, most Millennial way to meet one’s spouse. Probably the only more gay, Millennial way would be over avocado toast at a coffee bar that grows its own beans. But hey, it worked, right? It took me years to tell Brad about my abilities. I mean, be me: little gay boy that loved to knit and make pretty things, in Minnesota, in the early 90s. Add being weird, with weird abilities that no one wanted to talk about, and it wasn’t fun. Freaked a lot of people out because I could always tell what was going on. Moods always show up in color: pink for excitement, blue for calmness. For some reason, horniness is always shades of green, I have no idea why. But, gray? When people appear gray? That means they don’t care. That’s the killer. It never mattered what they said, everything was gray. You ever try not being weird? I tried. I tied myself into knots when I was a teenager. I was a jock, played hockey, and was actually pretty good. Left wing, had a wicked snap shot. Meanwhile, I discovered my grandmother’s knitting and yarn stash. She secretly taught me how to knit. On my own, I discovered how to dye things. It was an attempt to control what colors I saw. It didn’t work, but it did teach me a lot about chemistry, which was great for a career. Brad never freaked out about my abilities. He thought it was cool, and we’d spend hours at Nokomis, and he’d point out people on the beach or in the park, asking what I saw. He was the first person since my grandma that made me feel…I know I’m not normal, and never will be, but with Brad we can be a nice, normal couple. Plus, since he’s an engineer, he makes the best tater tot hotdish because he calculated the perfect structure of tater tots to hotdish
