The Spider-Man Syndrome (Short Script Read)
Project Overview
Disclaimer. This project has NOTHING to do with the Spider-Man franchise or his character.
The Spider-Man Syndrome is a short script about a superhero going to their therapist and talking to them about not feeling properly acknowledged and appreciated for all of the good they do for the city they protect. This was written with input from those who have been to therapy for various reasons and their experiences from it. I will be posting it to my YouTube page Mr EMC, which you can find in my profile.
I specifically wrote the characters and story as ambiguous as possible so it can be more accessible to others to empathize and relate with. Anyone is welcome to audition regardless of gender or race. I would prefer that your voice meets the age range described for the character.
Here is the doc to the script if you want some ideas for the characters! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lh0lPyDfvjDNvklrJE3L_X2Izz6M5Nk9BZOIvSzZiv8/edit?usp=sharing

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say thank you for audition for this little thingy. Considering there are 15 auditions for the Hero and 14 for the Therapist, and also the deadline is...tomorrow. I think now is a good time to start casting. To those who get casted, I will be sending the script once again with a deadline. You all have submitted incredible auditions and narrowing it down will be hard. Best of luck to all!
The Hero is the patient in this therapy session. They suffer from self-worth issues as well as diagnosed and medicated depression. They should be a little slow with their words, considering they are very tired.
Please refer to the script in the description if you want a better feel for the character.
[Upon being asked on a scale from 1-10 how you are feeling]
“Uhh...well...not great...but not horrible? I’d say like...a 4 though. Solid 4.”
[Confessing that you haven't been taking your meds]
“I...may have. In the first couple of weeks it was just forgetting to take them...but it’s shifted over to...choosing not to take them.”
The Therapist is the doctor conducting the therapy session with the Hero. They are very professional and forbearing with their patients, always willing to listen.
Please refer to the script in the description if you want a better feel for the character.
[Asking your patient about how they feel]
“So. Scale from one to ten, ten being very well mentally, one being very unwell mentally, how have you felt as of recent?”
[Describing the reasoning behind some of your patients symptoms]
"It means having adrenaline in your system, and your body is running off of it. I am not surprised that your body might still have it in your system considering what you did last weekend…”
