Project Overview
Eighteen million years ago, a meteorite struck a remote lakeside landmass now known as Hallam Island, Connecticut.
Buried within the impact crater was not rock or metal, but something far older: an alien, parasitic entity later referred to as Diamond Eyes. Feeding exclusively on negative human emotion such as grief, hatred and despair, the entity remained dormant beneath the earth for millennia. In 1910, construction crews began settling the island, unknowingly disturbing the crater while laying the foundation for what would become the Smiles family estate. By 1912, the house was completed, directly atop the entityβs resting place. For decades, nothing happened. Until 1936.
During a lavish masquerade ball held within the estate, Diamond Eyes finally awoke. That same night, two attendees, Lloyd and Joe, wandered beyond the house grounds. Joe was later found unconscious, his condition unexplained. As Lloyd struggled with what had happened, he was approached by Diamond Eyes. The entity offered him a deal: in exchange for a sacrifice, she would restore Joe. Driven by grief and desperation, Lloyd complied. He tampered with the boiler system, triggering a catastrophic gas leak. The celebration turned into a silent mass death, with every guest inside perishing. The deal was no longer a truthful one. Rather than restoring Joe, Diamond Eyes claimed both men, possessed their bodies and repurposed them as her puppets.
Unbeknownst to the Smiles family, they were never truly alone. Watching from beyond comprehension was an entity known only as The Gorilla, an omnipotent, godlike observer bound to Hallam Island and, inexplicably, to the tragedy of Brian decades prior. Unlike the others, The Gorilla did not feed on suffering. It endured and studied it, intervened only when absolutely necessary. For years, it protected the family in silence, subtly disrupting events, delaying inevitable outcomes, buying them time. But on November 27th, 1994, something changed. A new presence arrived: Albert Aretz. His connection to the events were unclear, but his arrival marked a shift, as if a piece placed on a board that had been set for decades.
Nearly two decades later (2013), the surviving Smiles children, and Albert had built new lives. Each of them was drawn back to the ruins, not by coincidence, by design. At the center of the collapsed foundation, something had re-emerged: the hole, the same one uncovered in 1910. Descending into it, the group discovered the truth, Diamond Eyes had never left. What followed was not a fight, but a struggle for survival against the ancient and absolute. Illusions, grief manifestations, and psychological torment turned the group against their own memories. In a final confrontation, he forced Diamond Eyes back into the abyss from which she came, an endless void beyond her control. This time, there was no deal or manipulation.

The father of the family, he takes care of his three current children. Married to Nancy Smiles until she passed away alongside their eldest son, Leo Smiles, in a motorcycle accident. While maintaining a stable position physically, he still mourns the passing of the two, slowly going insane in the process.

The second eldest within the family, he tends to be extremely timid and afraid when any kind of horrifying events take place and has extreme paranoia, assuming everything in the dark is secretly watching him when in reality there was really nothing there.

The eldest child of the family, Matthew is the knight in shining armor, ensuring his brother Seth, that he's completely safe and nothing is out to harm him. To his sister Clair, he tucks her in and checks every nook and cranny so that she isn't afraid of the dark.

Alien-like creature that crashed down to earth in a meteorite millions of years ago. In 1936, during a masquerade, 48 people were killed due to a gas leak. DIAM0NDEYES caused this by manipulating LloydJoe to set off the gas after his twin Roy Joe died after drinking too much. A few years after the Smiles moved in, she caused the car crash that leaded to the deaths of Nancy and Leo, causing Robert to become depressed and desperate, indirectly making him made a deal with her minion, Roy in order to brought his wife and eldest son back. In 1994, DIAM0NDEYES supposedly used Roy's ghost to make Albert set off the boiler, later making the household burn down.

Roy E. Joe was born in the year 1902, on the same day as his twin brother Lloyd E. Joe. Not a lot is known about his early life. On June 20th, 1936, Lloyd Joe, found him unconscious outside of the Smiles Family house. Suddenly, DIAM0NDEYES appeared and told Lloyd that he can bring Roy back, if Lloyd does a deal with him first. Lloyd took the deal and caused the gas leak, which murdered the 50 people on Hallam Island. After this, both Lloyd and Roy were taken as servants for her.

Lloyd E. Joe was born in the year 1902, on the same day as his twin brother Roy E. Joe. Not a lot is known about his early life, other than him acquiring a job at the Berwyn Parlor as a bartender at some point. On July 20th, 1936, Lloyd and his brother Roy went to a masquerade on Hallam Island. During the masquerade party, Lloyd realized his brother was missing and quickly went searching for him. He later discovered his brother lying dead on the ground. DIAM0NDEYES offered to bring Roy back. Desperate to get his brother back, he made a deal with her. That soon lead to Lloyd putting carbon monoxide in the air, killing 50 people. Once Lloyd saw what he did, he started to regret the decision he made. DIAM0NDEYES used this moment to corrupt Lloyd's mind, which resulted in him being in her control.

A special pod is designed to explore and examine the Mariana Trench, but can only support 1 person. A man named Brian Joe is sent out to be the one to use the submarine. During his time, he encounters a demon-like figure who teaches Brian how to use the submarine. Later on, however, the demon knows what Brian really thinks about him, instead of being a friend, but a horrifying, ugly beast, and becomes hostile, trying to kill Brian. Once it surfaces, attached onto the submarine, Brian is unfortunately released from the waters and into the real world.

Jerry is a tall and skinny black demon, likely resembling a skeleton. He has tiny white O pupils and a smiling mouth. Likely before the events of the Smiles Family, Jerry likely would have attacked and seriously injured Brian's daughter, leading to her being put in a hospital where she would die eventually. This led to Brian Joe to take a job as a Underwater Geologist, taking studies in the Marina Trench, ironically where Jerry stays.
