The Rat (Human Dub Edition)

Project Overview

About:

The Rat is a satirical comedy action short movie that I created last year for a school assignment using text to speech for the voices of the characters. I wanted to create a comedy movie around the irony of having a serious tone while being completely silly. This year I would like to create a new edition of the movie that is dubbed by voice actors this time. This movie is non-profit and a passion project of mine.

What to expect:

  • Not necessary for the auditions, however, actors will need to try and time their lines so that it is close to the timing in the movie due to the footage not changing.

  • Although characters look silly and cute, the lines must be delivered mainly seriously for most characters because it is the direction and tone I wanted to go for.

  • Actors will be credited in the final product with whatever name they prefer

Although this is a comedy the rabbit's lines must be delivered seriously. Although he is a being that has lived for centuries, he remains a simple character without big picture goals. The Rabbit has an english accent.

  • He has finally found the monkey and speaks in a serious tone:

"Monkey, my arch nemesis, I have allowed you to live unpunished for too long. Ever since you stole my chicken crimpy shapes, I have sworn my entire life to taking my revenge and finally destroying you!"

  • He is trying to explain a complicated concept to the monkey seriously:

"Monkey, You don't seem to understand. I'm trying to kill you. You don't get to choose who gets to speak first or who gets the first line."

  • The rabbit has already won the fight and is explaining how the rat has missed such an obvious mistake (speak in normal speed):

"(laughter), allow me to explain. You see, I have written a statement of intention for my essay on Macbeth using the format of topic, point, comment and link and I solved a quadratic equation using the completing the square rule to find the parabola in turning point form... last month."

The monkey is a cute and simple character. Monkey stole the rabbit's chicken crimpy shapes many years ago to eat.

  • She corrects Rabbit on his mistake in "the script":

"I was supposed to speak first!"

  • Monkey is sad that rabbit has reached a dead end after pummeling her to oblivion:

"It seems we have reached a dead end."

  • Despite Rabbit asking Monkey for her last words, Monkey is happy and but interested in the stranger on top of the bed:
"Yes, who is that on top of the bed?"

The Rat is an ancient and powerful being that has laid dormant in his room for centuries to wait for the world's people to evolve to the point being able to help him save the universe. His voice is deep and his words articulate, slow and comprehensive.

  • The Rat's anger is restrained:

"Who are you, so foolish as to awaken me from my slumber? I have laid dormant in this room for over 500 years. Waiting for the people of this world to evolve to the point of higher intelligence. But, if the people of this world have regressed to the point where they would be foolish enough to disturb my sleep, then I fear I was mistaken to believe such creatures were capable of being anything more than merely insects."

  • The Rat is about to kill these pathetic creatures:

"Have you nothing to say? Then your final moments will be your best efforts to comprehend the presence of a god."

  • The Rat has just been teleported a short distance by The Rabbit:

    "You call that teleportation? Pathetic!"

The narrator says one line for a piece of context at the beginning of the film. It is vague so that it could be open to interpretation. The narrator speaks clearly and at a slow pace.

  • "500 years ago, The Mountain foresaw the end of their world."

"He and the dragon both knew that the only way to save it was to leave the child behind."
