The Outcasts: Guardian Angel
Project Overview
Hello everyone! I'm the designer of an indie game project dedicated to helping with mental health stigmas and societal issues such as bullying, abuse, and more.
In 2016 there were 44,965 suicide related deaths in the US. In 2017, unfortunately that number increased to over 47,000. Suicide is the SECOND leading cause of death in the WORLD.
As a child, I learned what it was like to be depressed before I understood what it even meant. I've been pushed so far where I thought about ending my own life. I've had a younger sibling, not even in high school yet, attempt to take his own life. He survived, fortunately. A close friend of mine wasn't so lucky. She did the same, last year and passed away. I blamed myself. I was so passionate about helping with these issues, but when it came to these people I was close to, I couldn't help them.
But it also helped me become more passionate. This game is for anyone who has been suicidal, or depressed. Anyone who has been a victim of bullying or blatant hatred.
I ask if you are passionate about this too, you support this cause!
If you're one of these roles and are interested in volunteering your time, please let me know! Message me. Send me your email, discord, or whatever! I'd love to have you. Let's make this game!
Michael Shumate Keyhole Games
As request here are more details of the game!
The games engine will be Unity.
The game itself is going to be a 2-D game, with a Tim Burton esc design, a lot like the game Pinstripe. I'm still debating on a design for the background, but I have a few in mind. I have concept art for interested parties.
The games plot centers around a boy, Will, and his struggle with mental health. As the player walks through his shoes, we eventually learn that Will is suicidal and plans to take his own life.
This is when he meets Elizabeth his Guardian Angel, who helps him realize his importance as he is guided to other characters in the game, whom he helps with their own problems.
The game will be mainly story driven, with some platforming elements, and a battle system

Hey everyone! I didn't realize I'd get some many great auditions! Samuel, Elliot, Elizabeth, and Melody have all been cast by amazing voice actors. I most likely will decide on William at some point this week. As for all the people who've applied for him, you're all so great! Now I wish I could cast all of ya (cliched I know) but unfortunately I cannot. However all of you interested in being in future side rolls, follow this project! I'll try and get as many as I can! NOW FOR THALIA I changed her lines a bit. I hope to hear people audition for her soon!

Thanks so far!
I'm so glad from the amount of people auditioning! Thanks a lot. Elizabeth and Melody has been cast, so huge thanks to them. The actresses portray them beautifully, so congratulations to them!
Will is the main character of The Outcasts: Guardian Angel.
For his first line, Will is confronted by his long time tormentor, Elliot who is picking a fight with him. Elliot calls him "William" in a teasing tone, which he hates being called. Will retorts with this slightly pissed tone.
His second line, he is sitting in an empty theater beside a strange girl. She asks him a really weird question, which he responds with this slightly sarcastic and confused tone.
The third line is to Elliot, who's doing his normal bullying. Will isn't having it, after having one of the worst days in his life. This line isn't spoken with anger, or arrogance but defeat. Like he's just so tired of everything else, he couldn't bother fighting.
William is 17, and a high schooler in Wilmington, Delaware.
Because he is the protagonist, you have a lot of lines most likely. Be prepared to yell, cry, and laugh!
If you become Will's voice actor, I ask that you are dedicated to the project and won't flake later on... You'd be a very important person to the game.
"Its /Will/. Not William. Now, if you don't mind I have to get to class."
"This is a /really/ weird conversation to be having with a stranger in a movie theater."
"You know what Elliot... I've put up with your crap for too long, dude. I'm done with you. You're just a shitty person, and I guess that's how you'll always be. Just go be shitty somewhere else, I don't have the air to waist anymore. I've got enough to deal with. We used to be friends, man. What the hell happened?"
Thalia Valentina is the main love interest of The Outcasts: Guardian Angel, as well as Wills best friend and coworker. (Though, that may have mixed signals given by the lines I have asked you to read.)
For her first line, she is crying. Someone close to her just died, and shes begging for Will to answer the phone. Make her sound heartbroken, voice cracking, sniffling...
For her second line, she's mad angry and lashes out at Will at a really bad time for him. She should sound bitter, angry, and resentful.
For the third line, shes relieved to finally have someone to talk to. Her best friend walks in and she just lets loose. Shes happy, and energetic.
She plays guitar, and aspires to be a musician. She even wears a t shirt from her favorite band The Primatez (A spoof of the Gorillaz)
Shes 25, and Will has a crush on her yet knows they can't be together because of their age gap.
"Will- please pick up! Please! Dammit! Will, its Thalia! Please, get down to the store! They shot him, Will! He's dead! Please... I need you Will. I'm so sorry about what I said. Please!"
"Jeez, that's exactly what I'm talking about! God, you're so clingy! I don't like you Will, I'm sorry. So just stop with this whole, trying to be my friend! Because I don't want to be your girlfriend, and I don't want to be your friend!"
"Hey hey Blondie! Thank gooood you're here, you've got no idea how boooored I've been all day. Like, the store has been completely dead, Maverick is sick, and my phone died so I couldn't text you this funny ass joke I thought of. Anyway... How was school?"
Elliot, on the surface, can be the worlds biggest asshole. I'm leaving it like that to avoid spoiling anything of the story.
Elliot is an African American student who gets a bad reputation based off of where he's from and who his father is.
He is the school bully, and can say horrible things. He will be using offensive language a lot, but this is simply to show the effect bullying can reach and how bad it can make people feel. I apologize and don't mean to offend anyone. I believe everyone is should be accepted, however not everyone does...
The first line, hes simply being a dick to william.
His second line, he's actually pissed at the police after an innocent black man was shot by an officer.
The third line, he's bullying a transmale student. I felt horrible writing that line. Made my stomach turn. But thats kind of the point...
"Awe, William gonna cry? Why don't you go home to mommy? Oh wait, I forgot... You can't can ya?
"These goddamn cops serious with this shit? They're gonna let their pig shoot some innocent black man, and get away with it? Where the hell is the justice?!"
(Trigger warning for this line, I don't want to offend anyone but Elliot makes fun of a transgender character. It's important because It shows these situations, but I am not looking to hurt anyone... This line is simply meant to show that Elliot will say a lot of things like this, so we can show the extent of the issue. Again this line doesn't represent my view point, and if it represents yours don't bother applying because this game is meant to help people... Not hurt them.)
"Excuse me, what are you exactly? I mean, you say you're a dude, but I seem to recall you having tits like, two years ago! Isn't that right /Sa-MAN-tha/?"
Elizabeth is the guardian angel of William. At first, she comes off as mysterious, and a little weird but it's all a mirage for her true screw up nature. She used to be a janitor, however she was given this one chance- helping with Will- to prove herself among the Elites, the Guardian Angels. Once players get passed her mysteriousness she actually becomes quiet the goofy, and giddy character.
This first line, is said in seriousness... But should come across as comical, and laughable,
The second line is actually serious, kind of creepy.
Her third line is meant to be more comical. Shes yelling at will, all while having a mental breakdown where she's freaking out at Will for wanting to ditch her and go back to living his life before she entered it. Basically, this line guilt's Will into continuing their journey
"Because... I know everything! I AM god!"
"Well, since we're on the topic... Do you believe in the afterlife?"
"Because I'm a screw up, okay? You're my last hope! I mess everything up! Ya know that saying 'they've been perfect angels'? Well it's inaccurate! This is very freaking hard, and I just need you to cooperate okay? Please! I will NOT go back to mopping Bathrooms! I just wan't to be good at this one thing! I will NOT go back to mopping floors! Why do we even have floors to mop WE HAVE WINGS!"
Melody is the head cheerleader of the school, and probably is Elliots only friend. She has a not so secret crush on him, that Elliot is completely oblivious of.
She's korean, so anyone know knows any would be an awesome cast!
For her first line, she's leading the other cheerleaders in a cheer. Make her sound like shes working out.
Her second line, she's being casual to Elliot, trying to hint at wanting him to take her on a date.
For her third line, Will notices she isn't eating and offers her some of his lunch. She isn't really being bitchy, she's just acts a bit high on the popularity chain.
"Lets go girls! Ready, on me! One, and two and three!"
"So like, Elliot... Wouldn't it be dumb if the two of us went to that Ramen place I keep telling you about?"
"Oh, I am watching my figure. I'd never eat that... Slop they serve. Plus, I just ate. So, thanks but no thanks dweeb."
Sam is trans-man, who's family is from Mexico. He has a slight studdering issue, which is really shown in M and T words. He has extreme anxiety and public speaking is next to near impossible for him. He is also secretly a famous street artist going by the name of VOP, or voice of the people without anyone else knowing. He does spray paint art centered around major societal issues.
For his first line, he's being really quiet after William simply says Hi. He's worried Will is mad because the teacher had asked Sam to answer a question that Will couldn't.
For his second line, he's trying to read his essay he wrote, that he's having a really hard time saying in front of the class.
for the third line, Will catches Sam spray painting on the side of a store on the memorial where someone died. Will doesn't realize its him, but see's the art and chases after him, discovering it was Sam that was VOP all along. Sam, being nervous about someone knowing who he really was, says this line.
"Oh, you're t-talking to m-me? Sorry, if what I said in class m-m-made you m-m-maa-mad... You can use m-my notes if you want."
"I uhm... For m-m-my project, I did a- uhm... Piece on t-thh-the uh- I'm sorry..."
"You can't t-t-tell anyone you saw m-m-m-me here! Please! If anyone finds out, t-thh-they'll arrest m-m-me!"
Maverick is a tough, store owner with a powerful voice and dominate stature. He's intimidating at first, but really nice and becomes a father figure to William over time.
For his first line, he's being sarcastic and saying this in a very joking manner.
For his second line, he's lecturing Will as a father would, stern and serious.
And for his third line, he's being comical and serious all at the same time.
"Pssh, /you/ want a job? I think you took wrong turn at delusional street! Where are you from, kid?"
"Will, you might think that your pride is one of the most important thing a man has. But that's bullshit. It takes a bigger man to take help when it's offered to him. You're young Will. Take the money. If not for yourself, do it for Thalia."
"Don't let me catch you doin' nothing stupid! I swear, I ain't taking care of no babies!"
