Rei Sato – Character Overview
Rei Sato is Kaito's childhood friend and the emotional heart of the story. Having known Kaito for most of their lives, she understands him better than anyone else and often sees through the walls he tries to put up. While Kaito tends to rush forward and carry every burden himself, Rei is thoughtful, observant, and grounded.
After years apart, Rei reconnects with Kaito following a series of tragic events tied to Kurohana. Although she has experienced loss and hardship herself, she remains compassionate and determined to help the people she cares about. She often acts as Kaito's anchor, encouraging him to slow down, think clearly, and remember that he doesn't have to face everything alone.
The chemistry between Kaito and Rei is a central part of the story. Their bond is built on years of friendship, shared memories, trust, and unspoken feelings. Together they balance each other out—Kaito provides the drive to keep moving forward, while Rei provides the emotional support that keeps him grounded.

Kaito is fiercely loyal and willing to risk everything for the people he cares about. He believes that if there is even the slightest chance to help someone, he has a responsibility to try. This mindset makes him courageous and inspiring, but it also leads him to take dangerous risks and shoulder burdens that were never his to carry.
Throughout the story, Kaito struggles with the belief that he can protect everyone around him. His greatest strength and greatest flaw are the same: he refuses to give up on people, even when the odds are impossible.

While Kaito is often driven by emotion and action, Hayes is the voice of reason who prefers planning and preparation before taking risks.
Despite his sarcastic and often dry sense of humor, Hayes is fiercely loyal to his friends and would do anything to protect them. He frequently jokes about Kaito's reckless decisions and Rei's tendency to worry, but beneath the humor he deeply cares about both of them.
One of the most important relationships in Hayes' life was his friendship with Yumi. Although they constantly teased and argued with each other, they were incredibly close. Yumi's death has a lasting impact on Hayes, and he copes with that loss by burying himself in work rather than openly discussing his emotions.
Throughout the story, Hayes acts as the team's eyes and ears, gathering information, monitoring enemy activity, and helping coordinate operations. He often claims the group's plans are terrible ideas, but he is always the first person helping make those plans succeed. His role in the story is to provide stability, realism, and a sense of friendship while supporting Kaito and Rei during their fight against the Kurohana syndicate.

Beneath her chaotic energy, Yumi is highly emotionally aware. She notices when people are hurting and refuses to let them suffer alone. Because of this, she is often the first person to call out her friends when they are hiding their feelings or carrying burdens by themselves.
Over time, Yumi develops feelings for Kaito and comes to admire his loyalty and determination. However, she eventually accepts that Kaito's heart belongs to Rei. Rather than becoming bitter, she continues supporting both of them because their happiness matters more to her than her own feelings.
Yumi shares a close friendship with Rei and Hayes, often acting as the emotional glue that keeps the group together. No matter how dangerous the situation becomes, she refuses to abandon the people she cares about.
