The Indie Game

The Indie Game

Project Overview

Hello! This is a casting call for a video game project called The Indie Game, it's a platformer card-game hybrid, where one player plays a sorcerer (Card Game) and the other plays Indie (Platformer). The story is:

Indie's family spent years constructing a masterpiece - a state-of-the-art airship, fitted with the latest in steam technology. Unfortunately, Indie's father passed away just before it's maiden voyage. Indie decides to fulfill his father's lifelong dream and take it on it's first flight. He almost makes it to France, his grandfather's home, when he gets caught in a terrible storm, bringing his ship down on a strange, mostly uninhabited archipelago. After the crash, he finds a magical book that links him to the ancient spirit of a powerful sorceress. Indie comes to learn that the storm was not a coincidence, but part of an ancient curse that goes back to his family's beginnings in the 8th century.

Since this project is primarily for-fun, there will likely be little to no profit from this. If I do make significant enough profit, (Or if I raise the funds prior to full production) I'll split it evenly between everyone involved. I am not unwilling to pay, I just lack the resources for it currently.

Indie is the titular character, and is one of the main protagonists of The Indie Game. He has a cartoony design, He speaks with a New Yorker accent, but it's very slight. Otherwise, he has a fairly average American voice. He's also a bit of a loose cannon.

This character is very close to me, so I'm likely going to be very picky about the person who voices him. If you don't get cast, it's nothing personal, I promise.

  • [You're tired after getting the Airship running again] Look, with great power comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later, would you?

  • [Meeting the Sorceress for the first time] You seem familiar... Have we met before?

  • [You're talking to Sorceress about stories throughout history] (Sarcastic) If you ask me, Schrodinger's Cat is overrated. If you wanna see somethin' that's both dead and alive you can talk to me anytime.

The Sorceress is the titular Indie's main companion for the duration of the story, and is the other main protagonist. She is a powerful sorcerer who, after being freed from a cursed book, alongside several other, less friendly sorcerers, is ready to help break the curse that has been plaguing Indie's family for it's entire history. She was, at one point, a very powerful sorcerer, but after a long, magical sleep, she has lost much of her strength. She talks in a mystical, ancient way.

She watches mainly from above, and communicates telepathically with the person playing as Indie.

The picture is just the working design, and is subject to change. It is just a mockup of what the final design may look like.

  • [You're commenting on Indie's crashed airship] (Slight amazement) This machine... can fly?

  • [You come up upon a friendly NPC]

(Kindly) Well, it certainly is nice coming upon a friendly face.

[The NPC then indirectly insults Ashley]

(Bluntly) I take it back. This guy is a jerk.

  • [The player has incidentally played a card that hinders Indie]

(mild panic) "No- Do not worry, I can fix this! I can fix this!"

Indie's Grandfather

Indie's grandfather was a French immigrant to America in his autumn years, but this takes place during his prime, He speaks with a distinct French accent, and is a playable character during one of the levels. His design is almost identical to Indie's, but with different clothes and a large moustache that hides his mouth, as well as the aforementioned French accent. The accent can be either manufactured or natural.

It would also be a huge bonus if you can actually speak French, however, the majority of the game will be in English, and it would be purely a novelty.

  • [You're speaking to a shopkeeper] "I need a set of boxing gloves. You wouldn't happen to have any?"

  • [A treasure you've been searching for is missing] Maybe... the true treasure was the friendship all along... But I hope not, because I can't spend friendship on airship parts.
