The First Step (LGBTQ+ Sims 4 Short Story)

Project Overview

THE FIRST STEP

A closeted homosexual goes on a date in attempt to get over his shame.

The story follows Kai, a twenty year old timid gay who's grown up in an environment that does not accept homosexuality. That has taken its toll on him, and how he has shame for who he is and who he loves. In this short story he begins his journey of embracing who he is, all thanks to his date.

Requirements:

-CLEAR MICROPHONE (I'm not really a fan of white noise; some smartphones have really good microphones)
-USE EMOTION
-BE PUNCTUAL
-VERY IMPORTANT! WHENEVER THERE IS A 'SCOFF', A 'GRUNT' OR ANYTHING LIKE THIS, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU COUNT THAT AS A LINE AS WELL.

The script is written in a professional script format (i.e. it's not written on Word or anything, I used Final Draft to write it), I hope you're okay with that.

  • Teaser Trailer!

You will see I've put a teaser trailer at the top of the casting call, so you can see what the short film will look like! In other news, I'm still waiting for more people to audition for Kai and Al before I make my final decision, so the deadline was extended.

Voice: Mid-High

Character: Timid, ashamed, quiet when discussing his homosexuality so as to keep it a secret. He's literally a nervous ball throughout the whole date.

  • BEST FRIEND (PHONE): Just go in.

KAI: I don’t know what to do. What do I say?

BEST FRIEND (PHONE): (sarcastic) Maybe start with “hi”. (then) You’ve got this. It’s just a date.

    KAI (’sure’):  Yeah. A date.

  • KAI: I don’t know. It’s uh, it’s just... I’ve never...

    AL: Never done this before?

    KAI Yeah.

    AL: Ever, or?

KAI: With a guy. And ever. (chuckle) I’m not really into the dating... scene, or whatever.

  • KAI (quiet, intimate): They might see us.

Voice: Mid-Low

Character: He's a laid-back guy, doesn't care much about what people think. He taught himself to ignore people's opinions, as it was only bringing him down. And he's here to teach Kai to do the same, and finally embrace who he really is.

  • KAI: Aren’t we supposed to be talking or something?

AL: I don’t mind just sitting here. I enjoy your company. (joke) I think.

KAI: (chuckle) Alright. What do you do?

AL: You after my money? (laugh) I, uh, work at the zoo, actually.

  • KAI: I don’t know. It’s uh, it’s just... I’ve never...

    AL: Never done this before?

    KAI: Yeah.

    AL: Ever, or?

KAI: With a guy. And ever. (chuckle) I’m not really into the dating... scene, or whatever.

AL: Well, there’s always a first.

  • AL: I see them sit in each other’s laps, cuddle on benches and in parks, just freely showing love to each other. And I always think - why don’t we get to do that? Why do we let them take that away from us? The freedom to love publicly. They can do it. Why can’t we?

Voice: Mid

Character: She's a bit sassy and doesn't always think before she speaks, but she truly cares for Kai and wants him to be who he wants to be, not who society says he has to be. She doesn't understand his struggle, but she tries to be there for him as much as she can. She is the one who pushes him out there, she is his confidence booster.

  • BEST FRIEND (PHONE): Just go in.

KAI: I don’t know what to do. What do I say?

BEST FRIEND (PHONE): (sarcastic) Maybe start with “hi”. (then) You’ve got this. It’s just a date.

    KAI: (’sure’) Yeah. A date.

BEST FRIEND (PHONE): Okay, it’s not just a date, but like... it kind of is.

  • KAI: He wanted to dance.

    BEST FRIEND (PHONE): Okay?

    KAI: In front of people!

    Best Friend SCOFFS.

    KAI (CONT’D): Don’t scoff!

BEST FRIEND (PHONE): I know, I know. I’m sorry. (then) Look. People will look. They will stare, they will judge, they will say things. They’re all assholes. So why do you put their comfort before yours?
