The Count: A Pop/Rock Revenge Musical (Concept Album)

Project Overview

The story of Edmond Dantes and his descent into madness as he tries to get revenge on all those who did him wrong set to a pop/rock score. I am in the process of adapting an epic tale that has always been a favorite of mine. This project has been in planning for years and now I'm finally going through with it and I would love to have you guys on board as I go along with writing it.

Latest Updates

  • Thank you all!

All of the roles have finally been cast! Thank you all for your interest in my little project here, it means a lot. And everyone who auditioned and didn't get cast, I'm sorry, I know how it feels. Feel free to audition for the ensemble if you still want to be a part of this. Thank you all!
  • Back on

I've decided to continue as planned, sorry for those who might have been disappointed.
  • Hiatus?

Due to a lack of interest I am afraid I will be suspending the project to a later date, it will still be happening eventually. However, the current plan has not been a success. It will instead be re-updated when all the songs are completed instead of the songs being written around the actors like I'd originally intended. Thank you those who auditioned and followed, and I'll hopefully see you all soon. Thank you for understanding and I'm sorry.

The Count himself, a cold, calculating, and angry man. Having had his future taken from him in his youth he now determines to do the same to his enemies who took it from him to begin with. But might also be destroying himself and the few he does care about in the process. Looking for a strong actor who can be both intense and almost emotionless, sometimes at the same time. Has a strong Bass-Baritone with a mix of David Bowie and Sweeney Todd.

  • Sing something from a pop singer like David Bowie (Examples: Lazarus, The Man Who Sold The World, Lovesong, Perfect Day, Etc)

  • Sing a musical theater song from a Bass-Baritone character like Sweeney Todd (Examples: My Friends, Epiphany, Stars, Hellfire, Etc)

Modego's wife, former fiance of The Count who was deeply in love with him before his fall. After he is falsely convicted and she is told he dies, she becomes a shell of her former self and rots a little bit every day. Her joy comes in the form of her son who she loves with all her heart, and once Edmond returns, she can't bring herself to love him again, instead falling deeper into regret. Needs an actress with powerful emotions and a bitter dry comedy at times. Has a Mezzo-Soprano voice that's a mix of Sara Bareilles and Sally Durant Plummer. And that can handle itself in the lower register but with a strong head voice as well.

  • Sing something from a pop singer like Sara Bareilles (Examples: She Used To Be Mine, Gravity, Over You, Time After Time, Etc)

  • Sing a musical theater song from a Mezzo character like Sally Durant Plummer (Examples: Losing My Mind, In Buddy's Eyes, I Dreamed A Dream, So Anyway, Etc)

The Count's rival for Mercedes' affections, and through underhanded means technically wins her, though she does not really love him. Becomes powerful and wealthy through his rise through the ranks of the military and his betrayal of the Ali Pasha and his daughter, once a misguided, but righteous man and even despite his fall, is a good father, and eventually realizes his turn from good and takes his life. I'm not looking for a villain actor, I'm looking for a gentle father type whose evil is more implicit and subtle. Has a soft Baritone voice that's a mix of Peter Murphy and Anatoly Sergievsky.

  • Sing something from a pop singer like Peter Murphy (Examples: Cuts You Up, Strange Kind Of Love, Lovesong, Absolute Beginner, Etc)

  • Sing a musical theater song from a Baritone character like Anatoly Sergievsky (Examples: Anthem, Where I Want To Be, Dust And Ashes, All I Ask of You, Etc)

The purser of the Pharon, deeply jealous of The Count's fortune, the brains behind Mondego, he's the one who originally came up with the idea to get him sent to prison, and he's the one who in the end had the least qualm with doing it. Selfish, cruel, and greedy, he holds his money and status as most important, more so than his family. Looking for a devilish and sly actor who has enough charm to win someone over. Has a deep Bass voice with a mix of Bing Crosby and Judge Turpin for a truly venomous villain.

  • Sing something from a jazz singer like Bing Crosby (Examples: Moonlight Becomes You, White Christmas, Nature Boy, Strangers In The Night, Etc)

  • Sing a musical theater song from a Bass character like Judge Turpin (Examples: Mea Culpa, Pretty Women, Hey Little Songbird, Be Prepared, Etc)

The King's Attorney, once a law abiding and good-natured judge, after his run in with The Count becomes harshly self serving, and undeniably cruel. A selfish man who cares about his family but is also very obsessed with his own reputation, even at the expense of the lives of those around him. Needs an actor who can be stuffy and repressed one moment and dangerously aggressive the next convincingly. Has a smooth tenor with styles mixed of Billy Joel and J. Pierrepont Finch.

  • Sing something from a pop singer like Billy Joel (Examples: Piano Man, She's Always A Woman, Englishman In New York, In The Air Tonight, Etc)

  • Sing a musical theater song from a Tenor character like J Pierrepont Finch  (Examples: I Believe In You, Brotherhood Of Man, Grand Knowing You, You Don't Need To Love Me, Etc)

A loyal friend of the Count after he saves Albert's life. He naively defends the Count and when he finds out he was just a pawn challenges the man to a dual. Passionate, but young and lacking in life experience, he is what in the industry is called "a good boy". Looking for a classic hero actor that can be naive, without needing a love interest. Has a strong pop tenor in a mix of All American Rejects and Chris Scott in style. Will also be playing the younger Mondego, vindictive and jealous, and easily taken in to Danglars' scheme, needs to have a little more venom in the acting and a strong upper range as he counters Danglars' bass.

  • Sing something that shows off your range from a rock singer like Tyson Ritter (Examples: I'm Waiting, Stab My Back, Hey There Delilah, The Phoenix, Etc)

  • Sing a musical theater song from a Tenor character like Christopher Scott (Examples: Why God Why?, Last Night of The World, One Song Glory, Dreamer In Disguise, Etc)

A smuggler and now steward to The Count, loyal but laments the loss of the man Edmond used to be, the drive for revenge changing him greatly over the years. Bertuccio befriends Haydee and becomes sort of a father figure to her as well, guiding her the best he can and eventually giving his service over to Mercedes in her later days. Needs a character actor who is more comedic than anything else, but can give off a world-weary attitude. Has a strong Bass voice a mix of Darius Rucker and Arvide Abernathy in style. Also plays Noirtier, Villefort's harmless looking father who is paralyzed from the waist down, actually an ardent Bonapartist and indirectly the reason that The Count is taken away. Loves his granddaughter most in the world and she takes care of him in his paralyzed state.

  • Sing something that shows off your range from a country singer like Darius Rucker (Examples: Let Her Cry, Come Back Song, You Make It Easy, People Are Crazy, Etc)

  • Sing a musical theater song from a Bass character like Arvide Abernathy (Examples: More I Cannot Wish You, Knight of The Woeful Countenance, Days Gone By, Etc)

A former slave girl, freed by The Count with a serious grudge against Mondego, who killed her father and sold her in the first place. She works as an entertainer to The Count and falls deeply in love with him despite his not feeling the same. Brave, and not one to be knocked around, even by the man she works for. Looking for an actress with wit and a warm presence, even when sarcastic. Has a warm but strong Mezzo-Soprano voice with a mix of Lady Gaga and Elle Woods in style. Also plays Eugenie's lover and piano teacher Louise, a comforting presence who is always there for Eugenie, a lot softer and calmer than Haydee, but equally caring.

  • Sing something that shows off your range from a pop singer like Lady Gaga (Examples: Bloody Mary, Paparazzi, E.T, Diamonds, Etc)

  • Sing a musical theater song from a Mezzo-Soprano character like Elle Woods (Examples: So Much Better, Legally Blonde, Maybe, Heaven Help My Heart, Etc)

The Count's mentor from the Chateau D'if, died in their attempt to escape but through his years with The Count makes him educated and is eventually the reason he is freed and becomes wealthy. Prone to speaking a lot and using a lot of complicated words, and never gives up with his faith in god (He is a priest after all). Looking for a strong comic actor with a father-like tenderness. Has a comic Baritone voice with a mix of The Gin Blossoms and Fagin. Also plays The Count's greedy former neighbor, at first seems like a caring father figure, defending Edmond from time to time, but is by all means a dirty and greedy figure. A lot more rough than Abbe Faria and by no means a role model.

  • Sing something that shows off your range from a rock singer like Robin Wilson (Examples: Until I Fall Away, Til I Hear It From You, Unwell, Valentines Day, Etc)

  • Sing a musical theater song from a Baritone character like Fagin (Examples: Reviewing The Situation, Pick A Pocket Or Two, How Lucky You Are, Master Of The House, Etc)

Needs a rough around the edges comedienne with a lot of spunk with the proper balance of energy. Has a strong Alto voice with a mix of Lana Del Rey and Florence Vassey. Needs a dignified but rather bland portrayal, with a very calm outside. Has a strong high Baritone voice that mixes Elton John and Monty Navarro in style. Looking for a villainous actress who can balance a bit of tenderness with a bit of crazy. Has a strong high Mezzo-Soprano voice that mixes Delta Goodrem's and Amelie's styles. Also plays Young Mercedes, almost un-recognizable as Mercedes, she is full of emotions and deeply in love with Edmond, if a bit naive due to her youth. A direct contrast to Heloise in almost every regard.

He thinks helping The Count out by pretending to be an aristocrat will help.  Needs a funny actress who can just be a real piece of shit.
