The Arcana [Audiobook Adaptation]

Project Overview

The Arcana is an interactive mobile game surrounding mystical romance and spiritual themes of witchcraft, fortune telling and other enchanting themes. I'm looking to make an audiobook adaptation of each route, and the intro of the game. It will be made over a long period of time, so please make sure you can be available if you are interested.

Requirements:

- A good mic, I want to hear clear and crisp voices with very little background noise. Blue Yeti quality or higher.

- Emotion in each auditon

- A positive, kind attitude.

- A discord account

- Be a good sport and have fun!

Warning: This contains sexually suggestive material that voice actors will have to carry out. Make sure you're comfortable with themes of mild sexual content and mild violence if you are offering to voice characters.

Other characters coming soon!

The Narrator is the main character in the story. They aren't classified as male or female, and are merely described as a powerful fortune teller under the apprenticeship of Asra. I want the narrator and the apprentice’s voice to be two different voices, the reason for this being that the way you speak sounds different in your head than it does out loud.

If you would prefer to audition for only the part the main character speaks, the profile is further down.

  • I am a student of the Magical Arts. My Master is Asra, the fortune teller. I know nothing of his past. It's the dead of a moonless night. The right time for beginning a journey, according to him.

  • When the cards speak to me, it isn't in any human tongue. Nonetheless, when my mind is clear, the answer comes to me.

  • Tentatively, his hands trail down either side of my neck, around my back, thumb brushing along my spine.

His soft words fall on my shoulder, so close that I can hear the strain of longing in his voice.

/I want you. I need you. I miss you so much./

Described as a wandering magician with a wealth of secrets, Asra is first introduced in-game as your teacher in magic, and is one of the three current available love interests.

He is often enigmatic and acts ambiguously, especially when pressed about the past. However he confesses to hate keeping secrets from The Apprentice, and refrains from telling them complete truths only to keep them safe. He is very devoted to and protective towards the apprentice, admitting that he journeys partly to escape his overwhelming feelings for them, as he cannot tell them how he feels.

At times Asra is difficult to predict, but he can always be depended on to arrive whenever you need him. He is free-spirited and sociable though ultimately private, preferring to spend his time alone or with you. He also enjoys teasing others with a mischievous humour, delighting in making them fluster. However when the favour is returned, or upon receiving genuine affection, he appears comically uncertain of how to respond. Carefree and content to live in the moment, Asra appears to dislike worrying for the future, and will remind The Apprentice to do the same.

Voice requirements: Asra can be voiced by a male or female, given that he is canonically non-binary but prefers HE/HIM pronouns. His voice is said to be airy and intimate, and that's how I imagine it as well.

  • (Reminicent, gentle.) You and I know who my heart belongs with, there's someone else on my mind. Their name keeps falling from my lips like a spell... and every day spent away from them makes the longing worse. To not hear their voice calling my name... You miss them too, don't you?

  • *With a low, slightly mischievous voice.* Can't you tell? Just a magic trick.~

Something from one of those ridiculous tomes.~ If you'd like to help, I'm sure I could find a use for you.

Blood, bone, sweat and tears. All sorts of things make powerful catalysts for these spells. I wonder, how much are you willing to give up?~

  • Hmmm... They must feel like they can tell you anything. I imagine they must feel very comfortable around you.

Maybe you make them feel like they're home, there's something about you that calls to them. Maybe they find they can't take their eyes off of you... or maybe they don't know why. There's a lot to like... How could they choose just one reason?

Nadia

Nadia is one of the three currently romanceable characters from the visual novel. She is the countess of Vesuvia, the location of the game.

She is very courteous and considerate with a playful streak. As a Countess, she's also authoritarian and prefers honesty to soothing lies. She's giving, willing to give gifts to her friends and acquaintances, saying they "need only ask".

Her overarching goal beyond capturing the murderer of her late husband Lucio is to make Vesuvia a better place for everyone - to fix the city and prove to Vesuvia and it's people that her house hasn't completely failed and abandoned the city. She's angry and disappointed with the Courtiers for failing to properly help the city in her absence - especially the sight of poor people on the streets going hungry and the overflowed Shopping District not being worked on. She firmly believes that the city should provide for it's people.

She tends to be sensitive to topics surrounding her sisters.

Nadia experiences numerous headaches throughout the game, and admits to the Apprentice that she remembers very little of her life with Lucio. She is not fond of Magicians. She's also very intelligent with machinery, creating various mechanical toys for Chandra as well as the intricate library door and the clock in the Great Hall that keeps track of moon phases.

Vocal Requirements: By the games creator, her voice is described as silky with an impeccable vibrato. I imagine it silky, suave, playful and seductive. It should fall into those guidelines

  • Forgive me for the hour, but... I will not suffer another sleepless night. Please, you must read the cards for me. It has to be you.

  • Spare your breath, Magician. This is the place. I know it, I've seen it before. These walls, these wares... and you. Though you were no liar in my dream. I am no stranger to the rumours about me. That I am a tyrant, That I loathe your type. Know this: I mean you no harm.

Must we do this? The deck is in your trouser pocket. Forgive me if I cut short your test of faith, but I have seen this before. Now, shall we begin?

  • I... must thank you for not turning me away. Twice now have I come to you in my darkest hours and twice now you have responded.

Your reactions are always quite endearing.

Julian

Julian Devorak is one of the three currently available love interests. He was accused of Count Lucio's murder and subsequently fled to escape his death sentence, but has since returned to Vesuvia.

Julian is viewed as being overly-dramatic by several characters due mainly to his masochistic tendencies. Portia sums up this vexing trait of his by saying that Julian is "Always shouldering someone else's burdens while lamenting how heavy the load is." Julian struggles with accepting the help of others because he believes himself to be unworthy of love or support.

Despite being a condemned criminal, he is reportedly loved by the majority of the Vesuvian public. He can be very magnetic and charming when he wants to be. According to Asra, he is able to excite others with ease and make them feel special. Though Asra also implies that Julian is selfish and manipulative. You are warned against relaxing your guard with him at several points, even, notably, by Julian himself. Regardless of any ulterior motive, he could possibly have, Julian genuinely desires love and affection, and he reveals this vulnerability to you at several points within the story. However, his self-loathing often causes him to shut out those who try to help him.

Although Julian often attempts to maintain a guise of bravado, his air of confidence is shattered with comical ease whenever shown genuine affection, and he is easily flustered, especially in romantic instances with the apprentice

Vocal Requirements: I imagine Julian with a deep, rough and husky voice. Though, I am open to any other interpretations.

  • Death? DEATH?

*He barks with sharp, uncontrollable laughter*

You've got to be joking. Death cast her gaze on this wretch and turned away. She has no interest in an abomination like me!

You've been hospitable, so I'll let you in on a secret: Your witch friend will be back for you, He's taught you all his tricks.

  • What, this water? It's harmless, or as harmless as it can be. It won't do anything to me, or anything to anyone anymore. Sure, a few people might get sick if they go for a swim but... isn't it a miracle? They went and figured it out, or outlasted it. Wonder how they did it? It's no matter, I suppose. Life finds a way, doesn't it? The plague is over.

  • Afraid of danger? Why, I live for it. Positively enchanted by danger, I am. In my line of work, you can't be afraid of a little pain. One might say I have... intimate knowledge of it.

    *Swallowing, nervous.*

Oho. Are dancing? I didn't know you could. What, er, What's your poison? Tango? Waltz?

*Making a muffled sound of pleasure, flustered.* S-so, not the waltz then. Pity, I've been known to cut a rug-

  • You've forsaken her.

Yes, you've pushed her away, and buried her voice. She calls out to you, but you won't listen.

Master, if you don't listen to her...

  • You have a plan, one that’s long in the making, years upon years. Now you seek to set it in motion.

Yes, act now. Everything has fallen into place.

The fearsome outsider who owes an onerous debt.
A gentle giant, who would rather avoid people but cares about the Apprentice and Asra too much to withdraw entirely.

He worries a lot - for Asra, for you, for all of Vesuvia under some looming threat. He is very shy, his time playing a villain in gladiator combat only making him want to be alone more.

He lives in the woods with many chickens, and a wolf named Inanna who takes care of him.

  • You are in grave danger.

He will return, uninvited. He will offer you a gift, when you need it most... Turn it away, or you will fall into his hand... Just like the rest of us.
