Takotsubo Heartbeat Dub Casting Call


Hello everyone! This is the master document regarding the casting call for a dub of Takotsubo Heartbeat made by Stup Jam. Here is a link to the video: Takotsubo Heartbeart


The Premise/Story


The story takes place in the setting of Splatoon 2. Following the after-party of the Cake vs Ice Cream Splatfest. The popular idol duo known as “Off The Hook” find themselves ambushed by a face that one of them recognizes. We are then told the story of Marina before joining Off The Hook, and what led to her current life on the surface up to the point of her confrontation with this familiar face. 


Casting Call Guidelines

 

  • Four versions of the Casting Call are planned to be released, one for each website it is planned to be posted on (Behind the Voice Actors, Casting Call Club & YouTube), as well as being personally shared with friends and acquaintances of ItsKonner (me!), the manager of the project. You can feel free to audition on any site that you are comfortable with. If you have already auditioned for this project, and see it posted on another site, please refrain from auditioning a second time; doing so will not increase your chances and would ultimately just cause confusion and negatively affect the project’s production.

 

  • The Deadline for auditions via Casting Call Club will be February 14th at 11:30pm Pacific Time (the casting call posted on other sites will have similar timeframes, depending on when each one goes live). If you have any issues regarding getting your lines submitted by this date, please feel free to contact me, and I’ll be happy to discuss a personal deadline for you. Look at the contact information section below to figure out how we can get in touch.

 

  • It is highly recommended that you view the video that will be dubbed so you have proper context. Refer to the link at the top of the description/document.

 

  • Assuming the project gets enough auditions/attention, I intend to cast one role per person. I want to ensure that everyone gets a fair amount of roles, and not encourage “role privilege” among the cast. But in the scenario that only a small number of people audition, double-casting may still be considered.
    • This rule doesn’t apply to understudies, in which double-casting may occur under the scenario that casted-VA drops out of the project by any means. Understudies will be announced along with the casted member with the project updates. 

 

  • Despite the previously stated rule, you are free to audition for as many characters as you desire!

 

  • You must have either a Discord account and/or an email address, so I can contact you. Discord is preferred. Please either type out this information with your audition or send it to.

 

  • If you are cast, you will be sent a link to a Discord server dedicated to the production of the project. You are not required to join the server, but it is the most efficient way to keep up with the production of the project. If you choose to not join, or you don’t have/are unable to make a Discord account, we will try to keep you in the loop regarding production via email.

 

  • Files for voice lines should be either .wav or .mp3. If you are unable to send your lines as either of these file types, we may still be able to convert them into the proper file type, but using the .wav/.mp3 originally is preferred (Unlisted Youtube videos are fine as well).

 

  • You should record anywhere from two to five takes for each line.

 

  • Some characters have very few individual lines, and your audition lines may be all that will need to be recorded. Characters with a “ * “ symbol next to their name are the ones who this applies to.
  • Please don’t feel offended or take it personally if you are not cast. You were just not what I was looking for, but that is okay. Every voice actor is a unique puzzle piece, and you are bound to be a perfect fit eventually, as long as you keep practicing and trying!

    Hello everyone! I am pleased to announce that the results for this casting call have been finalized! As stated before in the previous update, finalizing these roles has been a tough process! It was definitely a fun experience going through everyone's takes on the characters! With all of that being said, here is the cast list I've assembled:

  • March 9th, 2023 Update

    Hi Inkling, Octarians, and other evolved sea creatures of the Splatoon universe!,

    As you may have noticed, the casting call has been closed for a little under a month now, so I think it is long overdo to thank you all for lending your voices! Your talent has made sure the casting process is not an easy one, which it just how I like it!

    Originally, I planned on having all roles and their understudies cast by the end of February...which obviously isn't the case. The process has yet to have been completed thanks to college, family, other personal projects, and admittedly days where I just want to sit down and play video games once I get home.

    With all of this being said, I want to assure everyone that I certainly plan on making decisions as soon as possible. As of now, I have decided 2-3 "finalists" for the roles of Marina, Sunny and Pearl. It is going to be a close call, but I'm confident the ones who get the roles will certainly do a great job bringing these characters to life!

    I don't want to give out another date, because the day where all of the results are announced (which are currently planned to be all at once) ultimately comes down to my timing and decision making. I certainly don't plan on it being far off in the future! I would think by the end of March, we not only have the results out, but have already started the process of recording and editing, if not long before then!

    I'll try my best to make sure the results will be swiftly finished ASAP, and I thank you everyone for your continued patience.

The Protagonist


Marina is the protagonist of Takotsubo Heartbeat, and half of the duo that is Off The Hook. We follow the events that lead to her leaving her home behind and starting a new life in inkling society, and how she faces what she left behind.

Main Character


Before starting Off The Hook with Pearl, Marina was a part of a different musical duo during her life in Octocity, with Sunny. Together, Sunny and Marina would use their tuneful skills to bring joy to the citizens of Octocity. After the events of Marina's "departure", Sunny goes on a mission to find Marina on the surface, and bring her back down to earth.

Supporting Character


Pearl is Marina's partner and other half in the popular Inkopolis-Square-band, Off The Hook. She met Marina while practicing her singing in the mountains, and the two have been taking over the stations of inkling society ever since! However, she find herself in the crossfire when Marina's past resurfaces.

They would be used for ambiance and crowds in the background, as well as minor characters that only have one line.
