SOULFALL / ソウルフォール
Project Overview
SOULFALL
ソウルフォール
SOULFALL is an original dark fantasy / supernatural action manga centered around one question:
What if human emotions could become something real?
Fear. Anger. Grief. Loneliness. Desire. Hope. Love. Hatred.
Throughout history, humanity has experienced emotions so powerful that, under certain circumstances, they can take physical form. These manifestations are known as Concepts.
Some Concepts are barely more than strange phenomena. Others become living creatures capable of influencing the world around them. The stronger the emotion behind a Concept, the more dangerous its manifestation can become.
But Concepts are not simply monsters.
They are reflections of humanity itself.
THE WORLD
In the world of SOULFALL, most people live without ever realizing that Concepts exist.
They appear in places where human emotions become unusually concentrated: abandoned buildings, battlefields, hospitals, crowded cities, isolated homes, and countless other places shaped by human experience.
When a Concept manifests, its appearance and abilities are influenced by the emotion or idea that created it.
Some may be intelligent.
Some may be completely instinctive.
Some may even imitate human behavior.
Because of this, there is no simple rule for determining what a Concept will become.
And humanity has spent generations trying to understand them.
ARTIFACTS
Concepts are not the only supernatural phenomenon in this world.
Certain objects can become Artifacts — items capable of interacting with Concepts and granting extraordinary abilities to humans.
However, an Artifact is never simply a free source of power.
Every Artifact has its own nature, conditions, and cost.
The stronger the ability, the greater the price may be.
Some costs are physical.
Some are psychological.
And some may change the user in ways they never expected.
THE STORY
At the center of the story is Ren, a young man whose life is changed after encountering something that should not exist.
What begins as a terrifying encounter slowly reveals a much larger world hidden beneath ordinary human society.
As Ren becomes involved with Concepts, Artifacts, and the people who hunt or study them, he begins to discover that the existence of these beings may be connected to something much deeper than humanity's emotions.
The more he learns, the more questions appear.
Why do Concepts exist?
Why do some Concepts behave differently from others?
Who created the first Artifacts?
And why does humanity seem to have forgotten something about its own history?
TONE & STYLE
SOULFALL is intended to have a dark, atmospheric, and cinematic visual identity.
The project takes inspiration from the intensity and visual storytelling found in modern dark shonen and supernatural manga, while aiming to develop its own identity, characters, creatures, and mythology.
The story will contain:
Supernatural battles
Dark fantasy elements
Psychological themes
Mystery and world-building
Emotional character moments
Dangerous supernatural abilities
Concepts and creature designs
Horror-inspired imagery
Dramatic consequences
Occasional graphic violence and gore
The world should feel dangerous.
Characters can make mistakes, suffer consequences, and lose things that matter to them. Battles are not meant to exist only for spectacle — they should also reveal character, develop relationships, and gradually uncover the mysteries of the world.
THE VISUAL DIRECTION
A major part of SOULFALL will be its visual identity.
Concepts should not feel like generic monsters. Each one should have a distinctive silhouette, personality, symbolism, and connection to the emotion or idea it represents.
Human characters should have recognizable designs and strong visual personalities.
Action scenes should focus on:
impact, movement, composition, atmosphere, and storytelling.
Quiet scenes should be given the same level of attention. Facial expressions, environments, lighting, and small visual details will be important parts of the storytelling.
The goal is to create pages that feel like they could belong to a fully produced manga series.
THE PROJECT
SOULFALL is currently being developed by a small independent team.
The core creative team will consist of the writer and a small group of artists working together remotely.
We are looking for artists who want to help build the visual identity of an original manga from the ground up.
Current positions include:
Manga Artist
Creates finished manga artwork, characters, environments, Concepts, Creatures, and action scenes.
Storyboard & Layout Artist
Plans panel layouts, camera angles, pacing, composition, and visual storytelling.
Character Designer
Develops character appearances, clothing, hairstyles, accessories, and visual reference sheets.
Inker / Finishing Artist
Handles clean linework, shading, screentones, lighting, effects, and final page polish.
These roles are not intended to be completely isolated. Communication between artists will be important, and members may occasionally contribute ideas outside their primary role.
OUR GOAL
SOULFALL is not intended to be just a short standalone comic.
The long-term goal is to develop it into a complete manga series with its own characters, mythology, supernatural system, visual language, and expanding world.
The project will begin independently, with the possibility of developing it further if the series gains an audience.
We want to build something that feels mysterious, memorable, emotional, and genuinely alive.
If you enjoy dark fantasy, supernatural stories, creature design, manga storytelling, or simply want to help create an original world from the beginning, we'd love to have you be part of SOULFALL.
The world is already beginning to fall.
Now we have to decide what comes after.
