Puyo Puyo Fever 2: Chu! ~The Wikkid Fandub!~

Project Overview

All roles have been cast! Thank you for your interest. To stay up to date on the project, please join our Guilded server!

Please remember to listen to the voice references in the video above! Since this is a fandub, pacing your lines to match the original is a necessary skill.

This project

This project will be a video series of all cutscenes of the Medium (WakuWaku) and Hard (HaraHara) stories (plus some bonus content). It will provide dubbed audio, and updated translations to adhere better to the official localization style of Puyo Puyo Tetris and its sequel.

Source material

Puyo Puyo Fever 2 is the Japan-exclusive sequel to Puyo Pop Fever. It has a vibrant art style with a cast of characters just as vibrant, who interact in wacky cutscenes.

The game contains 9 story lines, one for each of the 3 protagonists, for each of the 3 difficulties:

 • The Easy difficulty (RunRun Course) is a tutorial level, and contains no plot. (Out of scope)
 • The Medium difficulty (WakuWaku Course) centers around the visitor Lemres arriving to Primp Town, and Prince Salde gaining, then losing, his fish-like form.
 • The Hard difficulty (HaraHara Course) centers around Amitie’s classmate Klug being possessed by an ancient demon in the book, while everyone else is probably not concerned enough by it.

A complete playthrough of WakuWaku and HaraHara courses can be seen in this playlist.

Role assigned to: Problem Penguin

Akuma (/ʌˈkuːmə/ {uh-KOO-muh}) is an ancient demon whose spirit possesses the body of a blue stuffed bear. He manages the Precise Museum in Primp Town. He speaks in a slow, purposeful tone of voice, or animalistic shrieks, occasionally alternating between them with no middle ground.

Akuma appears in 2 cutscenes.

I’m looking for someone who can pull off both an ominous, deep, wise-sounding voice and cartoonishly loud and shrill shouting. Listen to the reference audio for details.

Reference . In-game audio clips

 • “Pray tell... You desire to venture further?”

 • “Indeed. However, my knowledge... [suddenly shrieks] shan’t be endowed to the unworthy!”

 • [slow, purposeful tone] “Should you win, I shall hinder you no more... [alternates to shrieking] Ma-kuma! [alternates back] You I shall bestow the Charm of Kumamori... [alternates back again] Kuma, kuma-kuma-kuma!”

Accord is Amitie’s homeroom teacher at Primp Magic School. She is soft-spoken and mysterious, and has a habit of withholding information from her students. She is never seen without her black cat Popoi, whom she insists is just a puppet. Her spells are themed after music and school.

Accord is a supporting character, starting Amitie and Sig’s storylines.

Direction note: If you’re auditioning for Accord, I recommend also auditioning for Popoi.

Reference

 • [Scene: Accord is about to send Amitie for her quest.] “I’m expecting a visitor today, but I have something urgent to attend to, so I can’t guide him here. Amitie, if you don’t mind, could you go meet him in my place?”

 • [Scene: Sig asks Accord where Amitie is.] “I just sent her off to welcome a guest. She should be around the school gate by now. So, Sig, did you want to tell her something?”

 • [Scene: Sig heads off to find Amitie. Accord talks to herself.] “He worries me, that boy...”

Role assigned to: Jackson Makarov

Dapper Bones (previously “Oshare Bones”) is an undead skeleton, fashionista, and shopkeeper. He waits for his long-lost lover to return to him while running his shop in Primp Town. He is openly (and campily) gay, and scarcely hides it in his flamboyant mannerisms. He critiques the fashion sense of everyone he meets, with the hope that it would help them find love.

Dapper Bones is a minor character appearing in 2 cutscenes.

Direction note: Looking for a campy, Grell Sutcliffe sort of voice, but a bit more suave instead of grating when speaking normally. In the original Japanese, both those characters use speech mannerisms that are usually reserved for ladies (and “aunties”, so to speak).

Reference . In-game audio clips

 • “A prince, you say? What a shame, I haven’t seen any around.”

 • [Irritatedly, Dapper Bones yells at Amitie.] “For the last time! The newest movement is all about the post-tomboyish look that exudes futurism!”

 • [Amitie offends Dapper Bones. He shrieks at the top of his lungs.] “YOU BRAT! IT’S ON!”

Frank & Stein are two Frankenstein-like monsters, the father Frank carting the son Stein around in a wheelbarrow. Frank only speaks in loud grunts, and Stein interprets what he says (or at least purports to).

Frank & Stein appear in 2 cutscenes.

Reference

 • “You two are ganging up on us? I’m accompanying a child here! Where’s your respect? —Daddy says.”

 • [Dumbfounded, to Frank.] “What was that about?” [Raffina comes along and asks Stein what happened.] “Some weirdo just ran off that way with something shiny.”

 • [angrily] “Look who’s being greedy, Greedy!”

Hoho Bird (/ˈhoʊ̯hoʊ̯ bərd/ {HOH-hoh bird}, previously “Hohow Bird”) is a large bipedal bird obsessed with superheroes. He poses as a superhero himself, and speaks in a loud, excitable tone. Besides his appearance in story mode, he constructs and guides us through the Endless Tower, which hosts the single-player endurance and endless modes.

Hoho Bird appears in 2 cutscenes.

Reference

 • [Dramatic Entry.] “Mm-hmmm!! If you want to pass... you’re in for a heated battle with this superhero right here!”

 • [Hoho Bird gets hit with a barrage of fireballs.] “*intensely painful shriek* [He falls to the ground, defeated.] Mommy... I’m still your hero, right...?”

 • “A boy with glasses was just showing off a shiny stone to me! If I had that, my power could be even more super! Whooaa...! I want it so bad!!”

Gogotte (/ɡəˈgɒt/ {guh-GOTT}) is a chef living in a log cabin in the woods. He used to be a giant, but due to his penchant for brewing dubious concoctions, he has shrank down to his present size. He seems not to be a local, from the way he speaks.

Gogotte appears in 2 cutscenes.

Voice direction note: In the original Japanese, he speaks in a vaguely Chinese accent, but this is optional for this project.

Reference . In-game audio clips

 • “Here special soup for you! Drink, drink~ You drink this, make you energy! Make you strong! Here, here!”

 • “You, look tired... Sound tired... Seem tired. For you I have...~ [Gogotte pulls out a flask, seemingly out of his pants.] special potion!!”

 • “You can win, you get for free.”

Tartar (previously “Tarutaru”) is a rotund giant who goes to Primp Magic School. He likes interacting with nature, and has a crush on Raffina, over whom he often loses his composure. He is one of the largest characters in the game, and it should show in his voice resonance.

Tartar appears in 3 cutscenes.

Direction note: Looking for some kind of “from the countryside” vibe, unlike what he sounds like in Puyo Pop Fever’s dub. I personally think a Scottish accent could fit.

Reference . In-game audio clips

 • [Amitie asks Tartar how his new class is.] “Raffina’s seat is right behind mine. During class, Raffina keeps looking at me all the time.” [Tartar gets lost in his fantasies.] “Maybe, Raffina, has feelings for me? Raffina must surely like me a lot!”

 • [Tartar asks Sig where Raffina is, but he says he doesn’t know.] “Really? *giant’s sniffing* So why do I smell Raffina from your clothes?”

 • [Tartar finds Raffina and happily talks to her.] “Raffina~! The day after tomorrow, we’ll be on day duty for class.”

Otomo (/əˈtoʊmoʊ/ {o-TOH-moh}) is a timid young man who is Prince Salde’s butler. He chases the elusive prince to protect him and bring him back to the castle. He is timid and polite, and is motivated by a great deal of adoration for his Prince.

He appears in 2 cutscenes, which are the intro and outro of Raffina’s WakuWaku course. High pitch range.

Reference

 • “Excuse me, young lady, if you don’t mind me asking, have you happened to see a prince nearby?’

 • [Overjoyed at having found Prince Salde, Otomo runs into the scene.] “Prince Salde Canarl Shellbrick the Third! I’ve found you at long last!”

 • [Prince Salde escapes. Otomo is surprised, but immediately lost sight of him.] “Ah! Your majesty! [Otomo falls to the ground and weeps.] *defeated sniffles* I must search for Him anew...”

Prince Salde Canarl Shellbrick III (/ˈprɪns ˈsældə kəˈnɑrl ˈʃɛlbrɪk ðə ˈθərd/ {PRINCE SAL-dih kuh-NARL SHELL-brik the THIRD}), commonly known as the Ocean Prince, is a young spoilt prince from a faraway land. He likes mischief and wants to break free from the life of royalty, which he finds restrictive. He has asked Lemres to turn him into a fish, so that he may roam the seas. He is constantly chased down by his protective butler, Otomo, who wants to bring him back to his castle.

Prince Salde appears throughout Sig’s HaraHara course story.

Direction note: Looking for pretty much the same thing as Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, but it would be nice if you could differentiate between his human and fish forms by the raspiness of his voice.

Note: “zounds” is short for “God’s wounds” and is pronounced /zuːndz/ {ZOONDZ}.

Reference

Gameplay sample (1:40 for fish form, 2:00 for human form)

 • [Fish form. He tries to recruit Sig.] “Heed, you there. Would you fancy becoming my servant? I’ll give you three meals, a nap, and a walk.”

 • [Fish form. Raffina has caught him and is about to turn him back into a human.] “How dare you! Unhand me!” [He screams as Lemres turns him back into human form.] “What have you done...”

 • [Human form.] “Zounds, this place appears most haunted. As such, being a prince, I shall... run off and hide!”

Lemres /ˈlɛmrəs/ {LEM-ress}, alias The Comet Warlock, is a magic student in a neighboring town and a magic prodigy. He is confident, friendly, and suave, but mysterious. He is always seen smiling and speaking in a soft, disarming tone. He aims to bring smiles to people’s faces, and often expresses that by handing out sweets and baked goods, which are the source of his mana (as well as his first impression as “suspicious”.) He comes from a noble family of dark mages, but he seems to feel disdain towards his lineage, and prefers to use light magic.

He is one of the key supporting characters of the story, who brings the key items to Primp Town.

He is older than the main cast of students; official documents have stated that the position between Amitie and Lemres is similar to that of a junior-high student and a senior-high student. If I had to pin an age on him, I personally consider him to be somewhere between 16 and 22.

Reference

 • [Recurring line.] “Why hel-lo there~”

 • [Scene: Lemres meets Sig in the dunes.] “Listen, you don’t need to hide it. You’re here because you’re... stranded, right? Hm hm hm~ I know, I know so well. To tell you the truth, I’m here because I’m... stranded, as well!”

 • [Scene: Lemres meets Amitie in the ruins.] “I lost a couple artifacts on my way to Primp, and it looks like Klug got possessed because of that. I couldn’t just let myself sit back and watch.”

Feli

Feli /ˈfɛli/ {FEH-lee} is a student at the same school as Lemres. She appears to be younger than the students in Amitie’s class. She wears black dresses with frills and ribbons; combined with her face and short stature, she is reminiscent of a porcelain doll. She is skilled at all things related to occultism, such as dowsing with her divining rods, hexing, and divination (She is seen using an ouija board in her losing graphic). She has a great deal of admiration and an unstoppable crush for Lemres, her sempai in both the Japanese and Anime definitions. She is often seen with her loyal canine creature Baldanders, whom she accidentally summoned one day. She speaks confidently and cryptically, but is sometimes seen as creepy or unfriendly.

Feli is a supporting character, accompanying Lemres to Primp and providing some exposition to the main cast. She appears in 3 cutscenes.

Direction note: Completely different from Puyo Puyo Tetris. Self-assured delivery, but a tone that conveys that she is younger than Amitie.

Reference

 • [Scene: Raffina asks Feli whether a prince happened to pass by.] “A prince? Ah, the Prince of Pisces. I hear Lemres has transformed him into his desired form. It’s much too easy for him to change man into fish.”

 • [Scene: Feli is in the middle of casting a hex, but notices that Amitie has seen her. She frantically questions her.] “*startled gasp* You! How long have you been here? And what did you do with Bal? Don’t tell me you’ve done it to him!”

 • [Scene: Ending of Raffina’s story. Feli is annoyed and jealous that Raffina was treated so nicely by Lemres, her crush.] “Your niceness... It’s too much...!”

Raffina /rəˈfiːnə/ {ruh-FEE-nuh} (previously “Raffine”) is the heir of a wealthy family, and classmate of Amitie at Primp Magic School. She has a big ego, and is especially proud of her beauty. She usually acts prim and refined on the surface, but often lets her brash, greedy, and occasionally abrasive attitude come out. She specializes in elemental magic, which she casts using martial arts.

Raffina is one of the three protagonists of the game.

Reference

 • “Now, off I go to find this prince!” [Lidelle, dizzy from being shoved out of view in the previous cutscene, totters into view.] “You there, [flatly:] go away.”

 • “Well pardon me, Miss. I’m just searching for a certain person. Did you happen to come across someone who very obviously looks like a prince?”

 • [Scene: Raffina comes across Baldanders, but she is scared of big dogs.] “Wh—What are you looking at? Sit! ... Good boy... [She tries to sneak by.] Steady... Steady...” [Baldanders paws at her, and she leaps away in fear.] *horrified shriek*

Amitie /ˈæmɪti/ {AM-ih-tee} is a plucky student at Primp Magic School who dreams to someday become a wonderful magician. She is optimistic, friendly, and energetic, but is not as mature or smart as her peers. She specializes in elemental magic.

She is one of the three main characters of the game.

Direction note: Either the PPF1 style or the PPT style are acceptable, as long as it's peppy and cheerful.

Reference

 • [Scene: Amitie meets Tartar. Tone: Cheerful] “Hey there! It’s been a while since we got in different homerooms. How’s your new class treating you?”

 • [Scene: Amitie meets Lemres in the dunes, who offers her candy in return for “coming with him”. Tone: Quiet at first, but shocked and scared after.] “Hold on... Could this be... A kidnapper?!”

 • [Scene: Klug hands Amitie a magazine to show her an article, but Amitie is distracted by a raunchy advertisement on it. Amitie blushes and teases Klug.] “I never knew you read this kind of book... Hmm~“

Arle (/arl/ {ARL}, previously pronounced /ˈarli/) is a powerful wizard in training. She is cheerful and tomboyish, and takes no nonsense from others. She is accompanied by a round yellow creature with long ears named Carbuncle. She and Carbuncle are not from the same universe as the other characters, and is trying to get back home.

Arle appears in 3 cutscenes. (Carbuncle does not appear in any cutscenes.)

Reference

 • “Heya! Do you wanna have a quick match with me? If I keep battling, I might end back in the universe I came from. Ready?”

 • [Amitie asks Arle about her efforts to return to her universe. Arle giggles bashfully and slightly shamefully.] “No luck. I’ve been trying loads of stuff, but nothing. Have any ideas that might get me back home?”

Lidelle /lɪˈdɛl/ {lih-DELL} (previously “Rider”) is a shy girl of an unnamed horned species, and classmate of Amitie’s at Primp Magic School. She is innocent, soft-spoken, and caring, but timid and anxious around other people, feeling more at ease among the creatures in the woods. She is especially self-conscious about her horns, and tries to disguise them with huge buns of hair.

Lidelle is one of the supporting characters of the game, delivering a note from Klug in Amitie’s story. She appears in 3 cutscenes.

Reference

 • “Ah, you’re from the other homeroom... Sig, if I recall?” [Lidelle notices Sig’s twitching hair tufts.] “Eh?” [She is shocked and intrigued by them.] “Ehh? ...I can’t stop looking...”

Popoi /poʊ̯ˈpoɪ̯/ {poh-POY} is a black cat usually seen in Accord’s arms. Accord claims that he is her puppet. In contrast with Accord’s secretive behavior, Popoi speaks more impulsively and directly, forming a sort of “good cop, bad cop” pair with her.

Direction note: Instead of the Meowth-like interpretation in Puyo Puyo Tetris, his voice should be closer to the original or the Puyo Pop Fever dub.

If you auditioned for Popoi, I highly recommend also auditioning for Accord.

Popoi

 • “You told her to greet a guest, but you didn’t tell her who.”

 • [Scene: Tutorial] “It feels like we teach you the same thing every day. You should perk up your ears and listen.”

 • (*super-secret kitty whispering*)

Yu and Rei (/juː/ {YOU} and /reɪ̯/ {RAY}) are twin ghosts that appear near Primp Town. Yu, the elder sister of the pair, is cheerful, loud, and outgoing, and enjoys making puns and asking others riddles. In complete contrast, Rei, the younger brother, is very quiet and almost completely mute, choosing to mainly express himself using a plastic cue card.

They are minor characters and appear in 2 cutscenes, both of which have them riddling the player character.
Reference

 • Yu: “Come one, come all, wandering in! It’s time for Boneyard Brainteasers!”

 • Yu: “Well, here’s your first question! What do you call a main street for ghosts?” [Amitie fails to answer.] Yu: “Now then... Time’s up~!! The answer is: ‘a boo-levard’!”

Sig /sɪɡ/ {SIG} is a nonchalant student and a classmate of Amitie’s at Primp Magic School. He speaks in a flat, soft tone of voice, is unfazed by most things, and lives life at his own pace. He is fascinated by everything to do with insects, and spends lots of time in the woods. He does not show much emotion, except by twitching his antenna-like tufts of hair. His left eye and arm are red and demonic, but he doesn’t know why, nor does he let it bother him. He specializes in blue magic.

Sig is one of three protagonists of the game.

Direction note: His voice should sound closer to the original Japanese (before pubescent voice breaking) instead of Ben Diskin’s interpretation (after pubescent voice breaking) in Puyo Puyo Tetris.

Reference

 • [Scene: Amitie asks Sig about Prince Salde, who is accompanying him.] “I get to have three meals, a nap, and, uhm... I get some other stuff too. Neat, right?”

 • [Scene: Tartar insists that he could smell Raffina on Sig’s clothes, and keeps asking where she is. Sig keeps answering that he doesn’t know, gradually getting more confused/bothered.] “I’unno.” - “I don’t know why.” - “I really don’t know!”

 • [Scene: to Raffina, in the ruins.] “I don’t think you should go in there. It didn’t feel so nice.”
