Project X Zone 2 FANDUB: Prologue 2 - "O Brother, Thou Must Not Die"
Project Overview
This is a fandub project that I am undertaking since I had so much fun producing my last production. Further details about my personal goals are discussed in the "About Me" section below. As a fandub, this production is not paid for, or intended to be used as a professional product; instead, it aims towards personal development (and having fun!).
This fandub will be dubbing Project X Zone 2's Prologue 2 "O Brother, Thou Must Not Die". This is a short scene, but that doesn't stop the characters within going through a wide range of emotions. The video will be uploaded to my youtube channel, but I am not currently planning on producing a full dub of the game (although I will definitely be returning to PXZ2 in the future!)
Please also note that much of the dialogue in this scene is a lot of short, back and forth-type conversations, leaving out a lot of context. As such, I have added in extra lines or else changed many characters' audition lines, based on what I feel is a natural evolution of the dialogue. Hopefully, this will give you more of a chance to display your acting talent.
What is Project X Zone?If you have never heard of Project X Zone, it is a 3ds strategy RPG that's main selling point is being a massive inter-company crossover between Capcom, Sega, Bandai Namco and Nintendo as well! Featuring characters from fan-favourite franchises, including Street Fighter, Megaman X, Tales of, Yakuza, Fire Emblem, and more, there's no stopping the crossing of zones! If you're still unconvinced, I would recommend watching this video, which really does summarise everything I love about the games.
Although Project X Zone primarily sells itself on being a crossover between various franchises, this scene specifically focuses completely on one franchise: Sakura Wars.
What Is Sakura Wars?:Sakura Wars is a series that is most well known for its games pulling elements from many different genres: SRPG, dating sims, and visual novels being the main ones. Ever since its first game released to momentous critical and consumer acclaim on the Sega Saturn in 1996, several sequels, anime adaptations and theatre performances have followed. Most recently, a soft reboot was released on PS4, although the characters here are not related to them.
In an alternate TaishÅ era Japan, an uprising of demonic monsters known as "Kouma" have forced the government to develop methods to combat their reign. Their response was the Combat Revues, platoons of soldiers possessing powerful spiritual energy and capable of operating "Kobu": large spiritual armoured mechs. To hide their operations from prying eyes, and because most Kobu users are women, the Revues base their operations within various theatres, disguising themselves by day as theatre actresses or musical stars.
Rules and Guidelines:- 1. Please be civil: It needn't be said, but as always, please treat everyone involved in this project with due respect and kindness. We're all here to develop our skills and to have fun, so please don't ruin the experience!
- 2. Please have decent audio quality: It is not necessary to have studio quality audio and mixing, simply ensure your audio is clear and audible, and ensure there is no real background noise in your takes.
- 3. When auditioning: Please only upload the ONE audio clip you intend to use for the audition, and include ALL voice lines from the audition within it. If you wish to change your audition, please take your audio clip down, and upload the new one.
- * I would encourage you to try 2-3 takes per audition line in your audition clip. Use these different takes to emphasise different emotions or try different emphasis based on the direction the line gives you.
- * Slating (introducing yourself and the character you're auditioning for) is not necessary. In addition, do NOT use a previously made voice reel as your audition.
- * There is no limit to the characters you can audition for. Feel free to try every one that suits you!
- * Please try to take the time to try to read the description of every character. As part of my attempt to inform you as actors about the scene, I may bring up people or situations for direction purposes that may not be fully understood if read out of order. If you feel confused, try and look at another character's bio to see if it's explained there!
- * I would encourage you to try 2-3 takes per audition line in your audition clip. Use these different takes to emphasise different emotions or try different emphasis based on the direction the line gives you.
- 4. There are NO formal requirements for previous credentials as a voice actor. However, given the series being dubbed, I would love to hear from anyone who has experience with singing or other musical related talent!
- 5. Have Fun! Above all else, I hope to make this experience as rewarding for my actors as it is for me!
Recently, mysterious Golden Chains that reach past the sky have been appearing across different parts of the world. Large, overt, yet apparently indestructible, the reasons for their appearance (let alone their purpose) remains an enigma.
Concerned, representatives from the Imperial, Paris, and New York Combat Revues convene to discuss this strange phenomenon, only to encounter a once thought vanquished enemy...
Communication:If you are selected as to voice for a certain character, I will either DM you, or contact you via your preferred method of communication (please comment on your audition about details if you wish for this to happen).
I plan on using Discord server to conduct voice recording and direction sessions; these sessions will be happening live, and are expected to take at least 1-2 hours to conduct fully. Please be aware: I live in a UTC +8:00 timezone, so it is very likely that we will need to organise a time where conducting sessions are suitable.
If you have any queries or questions about this production, feel free to DM me or leave a comment on this post.

After a few auditions, I have made the decision to change Ogami's voice type to be higher than what was initially brought across in his description; he now is to speak with a medium male voice (similar to a tenor). For those who have already auditioned for him, feel free to submit another one to reflect this (but make sure to pull down your old one!)
(Last name pronounced "Oh-gah-mi")
Commander of the Imperial Combat Revue. Though he is known best for leading the Imperial Flower Division, he has experience leading the Paris Fleur Division as well.
Originally a junior officer, Ogami was promoted to the leader of the Flower Division after proving his aptitude with a Kobu at a sea test. There, he met Sakura and the rest of the Flower Division, and slowly grew into a captain capable of defending the capital against the Kouma. Eventually, he got transferred to Paris, where he met Erica, to help establish its own combat revue, the Fleur Division, and later ended up leading members from both revues against a grand threat to save Tokyo, impressing his seniors enough to promote him to Commander. When he's not leading the Flower Divisions, he works as the ticket taker for the Imperial Theatre.
A honest and hard-working man brimming with passion and tenacity, Ogami takes his fights for justice seriously, and willingly lays down his life to protect his fellow comrades. This trait, alongside his support of his teammates outside of battle, has earned him the respect of several members of the revues (and sometimes their affections too).
Voice Type: Medium Male (Young Adult, Approx. 23 Years Old)
(serious) We have no idea what these things are, Sakura, that's exactly why I'm sending you to investigate. I'm off to Paris, and you'll be heading to New York. We may end up being gone for some time.
(giving orders, commanding) Nice thinking! Lower the defensive wall!
...
OK everyone, work together and take 'em down! We've got to protect the Imperial Capital!
[Context: A Kouma is about to attack Erica!]
(panicked) Erica! (furious, protective) You keep your filthy mitts off her!
A member of the Imperial Combat Revue's Flower Division, and the lead actress in its associated theatre.
Daughter of the late hero Kazuma Shinguji, Sakura began as one of the newest members of the Flower Division, where she was forced to overcome her inexperience and naivete in order to find acceptance within the group. With her father's sword in hand and justice in her heart (and some encouragement from Ogami), Sakura matured past her faults and grew to be a worthy protector of Tokyo.
Sakura is a cheerful and sprightly girl who is kind to all, but is more than skilled and determined enough to live up to the legacy of her father. She willingly takes on any challenges that come her way, both as a member of the Combat Revue and as an actress.
Sakura also has a crush on her commander, Ogami, although she is sadly not unique in this regard. As such, she tends to get rather jealous and protective of Ogami when another girl (like Erica) gets a little too close to him for comfort.
Voice Type: High female, (Young Adult, Approx. 21 Years Old).
(concerned, awed) Golden... chains? So it's happening in both Paris and New York? They haven't caused any harm, yet not a one in the Imperial Capital... Just what are these things?
[Context: Ogami is wounded, so Erica has decided to heal him through..."intimate" means.]
(flustered, defensive) E-Erica! Hold it! I'll take care of him. You stay right there!
[*Erica leans in to kiss Ogami!*]
Erica! I said stay put!
[Context: Ogami and Co. have just finished defeating all the Kouma]
(relieved) The presence of evil seems to have faded. Is everyone all right?
...
(chiding, to Ogami and Erica) Sheesh, you two, you had me so worried!
A member of the Paris Combat Revue's Fleur Division, once personally lead by Ogami himself. A nun in training, she possesses impressive healing abilities that many consider to be a gift from God himself...but is undercut somewhat by her flighty, clumsy nature.
Erica was orphaned at a young age, having survived the accident that claimed her parents due to her spiritual powers manifesting. Subsequently, she was taken in by the church, which inspired her to become a nun and help others (even if her 'help' ends up causing more trouble). Erica was eventually asked to join the Fleur Division, where she met Ogami, and the trials the two endured allowed Erica to awaken to the true potential of her powers. In the Revue's associated theatre, she is a cabaret dancer, with her most popular dance being the "Black Cat Waltz".
An extremely sweet and kind girl, Erica is the kind of person whose smile can light up the room, with an air of innocence that makes even her faults endearing. However, even she understands the threat that the Kouma pose, and is more than willing to combat them in the name of the lord and to protect those she holds dear.
Like Sakura, Erica is also in love with Ogami and cares deeply for his wellbeing. However, she seems to be oblivious to Sakura's own feelings for Ogami, and therefore never seems to notice when the former becomes jealous about how Erica acts towards the latter.
Voice Type: High female (Late Teenager, Approx. 17 years old).
(serious, worried) Yes, sir. The chain appeared suddenly all around Paris... It's extremely disconcerting. But still, they haven't caused any harm so far. I've wondered if maybe we should just accept them as one of God's mysteries...
[Context: Ogami just protected Erica from a Kouma's attack that was meant for her.]
(frightened, remorseful) Ogami! Hang in there! You... You did that just to save me...
...
Th-There's no choice! He may never wake up again without my passionate kiss...
[Context: Erica is promising to protect Ogami during their investigation]
(cheerfully, innocently) Leave it to me! I'll be a most dedicated Parisian lover! As a member of Paris and member of its Combat Revue, I'll make sure he's well looked after!
(pronounced "Gem-men-ee")
A Texas born member of the New York Combat Revue's Star Division. Being somewhat recently formed, the Star Division is not led by Ogami, but instead by his nephew Shinjiro Taiga, whom Gemini has a crush on.
Despite her appearance and speech patterns, Gemini was actually trained as a samurai by Master Mifune, giving her a deep (if slightly skewed) appreciation for Japanese culture and traditions. After Mifune passed away, she made the decision to move to New York with the dream of eventually joining the Star Division and becoming a music star, something she eventually achieved, meeting Shinjiro in the process.
Like Sakura and Erica, Gemini is also a cheerful, kind girl, but one who has a tendency to get lost in her own thoughts. She also greatly enjoys making puns (of questionable quality), even if she's the only one who finds them funny.
Voice Type: High female - Texan accent (Late Teenager, Approx. 17 years old)
(explaining, serious) Same deal with New York. We're looking into it, but there's not a lot to go on yet. We've tried just about everything to destroy those things too. Even our STARs seem to be useless against them.
[Context: You're about to see your two girl friends start a catfight over a guy...AGAIN.]
(dismayed, perplexed) *sigh* Hoo boy, I can see this turnin' ugly fast. We better hurry up and rescue him.
[Context: About to go into battle]
(confident, then making a joke) Yes Sir! All right Kouma, watch the AsSAULT Force PEPPER you with attacks! *giggle* Get it?
