Predators (1996) by Robert Rodriguez - Script Reading Podcast

Project Overview

Hi everyone. I am the co-host of a podcast called Cancelled Movie Report. We take screenplays from movies that were in production or post production - but were then cancelled - and then recreate them as a podcast.

We have previously done audio recreations for Justice League: Mortal, Jurassic Park 4, Superman Lives and Star Wars: Duel of the Fates!

This particular episode is all about the original version of Predators from 1996, set to star a returning Arnold Schwarzenegger. This was written by Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Sin City) and the script leaked online some years ago.

There are some key scenes we are hoping to recreate from the original script for the project and need some big characters brought to life!

SADLER

Role assigned to: Steven Varnum

Sadler is the mysterious commander giving our characters their directives. He appears in two scenes - Once early on as a general on a screen and again towards the end. He is a villain in the movie and is described in the screenplay is 'a good old fashioned southern boy'

  • Congratulation, Commander. Your recon mission went off without a hitch. You only lost six men AND captured Dutch? Soldier you got off easy.

  • Hold your horsepower coach. Dutch isn't coming home. Dutch is going to Arkus 6. Never dumped one off there before, have you? Well, that's understandable. It's a vastly underused facility. Never realized its full potential as a dumping site for unwanted debris.

  • You always new the score, Dutch. Remember that Special Ops assignment you pulled in Afghanistan, with that woman and her baby? How she tied a stick of dynamite to its back and handed it to your pal? Everybody dies sometimes, you know that. But its always for something. Shit, why else do it if its not worth something?

Parish is the 'tech guy' of the crew. He is the one who is directing the soldiers through the jungle on the alien planet. He is described as a 'gentler kind of solider'

  • No signal of anyone else in the area sir... Wait, I've got something sir. Not a large facility... About 3.5 miles north.

  • (speaking quietly to the captain who is on a call)
Arkus 6 is a preservation facility. Protected animal species reside on the planet

Role assigned to: Erik Forsström

Monlineaux is one of the soldiers transporting Dutch to a prison planet. He is a smart type that the captain of the crew (JC) often asks advise from. He want to make this character French as a reference to his last name and to help differentiate all the soldiers a little more.

  • (Addressing an alien totem pole on new planet)
Forget it, man. It's a museum piece. Bet you 20 New Dollars that jailboys brought it over and put it up. Something to make the front yard look nice.

  • (annoyed)
This was supposed to be it, JC. On our way home. What the fuck SHOULD we think? Goddammit JC!

Gonzalez is one the marines who is transporting Dutch to a prison on the alien planet. He only appears in one scene recreation letting people know about an Alien totem pole they discover on the landing site.

  • Over here Major! I don't know what it is, sir. It's not ours. A relic maybe. Whoever was here before. But it's definitely a message.

  • I got no fucking idea! But glyphs on a pole like this are traditionally a warning. The markings might say 'low clearance', 'watch for falling rocks' or 'abandon hope all ye who enter here'
    (shrugs)
    Hard to say.

Cadillac is one the marines tasked with transporting Dutch to the prison on the alien planet. He is the one who walks with Dutch (gun always pointed and ready). Described in the screenplay as a large, muscular African American.

  • (pointing his gun at Dutch during a tense situation)
Just stay cool, troublemaker. Nice and easy... Stand up... Slow.

  • Holy mother! Where the hell were you hiding that?

  • (While fighting a large roach like alien, just after he kills it)
    Goddamn roaches...
