Pokemon Special Diamond and Pearl Volume 1 fandub

Project Overview

I'm lost here, what is a Pokemon Special?

A brief summary to that question is that Pokemon Special (PokeSpe) is a long line of Pokemon manga which are heavily inspired from the video games. This manga is a completely different entity than the anime in that it keeps its stories and characters chained to their region of origin (mostly). In the Diamond and Pearl chapter we follow Platinum on her quest to the top of Mount Coronet, with Diamond and Pearl acting as spontaneous bodyguards to the titular character whilst perusing their own dreams of becoming an iconic comedy duo. 

I first read this in about 4-5th grade, and as someone heading into adulthood soon i wanted to pay homage the manga that helped me find myself in my super early years and do it some real justice. It feels like the manga is super obscure to fans in the west and i'd like for someone out there to find inspiration in the same thing i did. Please help me fulfill this one wish and let's do it right!

So what is this?

This is the first Volume to an entire mangas dub, with each episode equaling roughly 15-20 pages or about 10-20 minutes a pop. As such, episodes are expected on a bi-weekly bases with a total estimated episode count being 80. Needless to say this will be a very long project!

Requirements

- A good mic is an absolute must if you're going to audition for a long-lasting role such as a lead or a supporting role! 

- Please have a discord! This will be the main method of communication.

- Deadlines exist! If you won't be able to make one, please message me! 

- Commitment is necessary, especially if you're planning to audition for a long-term role. If you feel you have to drop out for whatever reason during the project please tell me.

- Be passionate and have fun! This isn't really a rule, but passion is what keeps us all doing this kind of stuff, right? Also knowledge of Pokemon isn't really needed but knowing what's going on would be really cool! also if you have the time, i recommend you check out the manga itself! it's a really great story and knowing what the characters have experienced can help you with portraying them to the best of your ability!


Extra stuff:

Routes shouldn't be pronounced as "Two hundred and Six" but as "Two O' Six" or "Two Sixteen"

Paka and Uji auditioners should check the each others lines as their final lines are intertwined

Don't stress over town pronunciation! some can be a bit weird...

If you have a different interpretation than what is listed on the auditions, then please do!

Dai is pronounced as "die", like start saying diamond and cut off the "mond"

If the dialogue sounds unnatural or weird feel free to cut out a word or two!

  • The casting call has ended officially ended!

    First off, i'd just like to thank everybody. Listening to your auditions and seeing just how many people took interest in my little passion project really touched me, and has inspired me to go even further beyond in terms of acting and editing! Thank you everybody. That being said, you guys really are awesome! There were at least 5 roles that really had me breaking my head for half an hour or more on who'd get which role.. because I will continue to struggle late into the night, expect roles to be finalized by tomorrow(Saturday) evening! Pearl is the "active" protagonist in the group. He's the unofficial leader in the group, often helps Platinum in her quest for the gyms, and is the straight man to Diamond's funny man. He's very proactive when it comes to anything really and has little patience when it comes to tomfoolery. He isn't a total stick in the mud though and is a kind hearted young man with his eyes set on his goal: the ultimate double act duo!

He should have a protagonist-y voice, in that his voice ought to be young and bursting with energy. Range would be mid-high.

  • When you think of Pokemon!! 

    You can do a lot of things with them, like train them, catch them, do battle with them... (Diamond: You don't say!)

    What about you? Are you a Trainer? A Catcher? A Battler? (Well if I were to say, I'd say I am... A "shocker")

    That's an attack move and it's "Shock Wave", you idiot! (comedic slap)

    Hey, there are lots of different kinds of "attacks", aren't there? What kind of "attacks" do you like? ('Egg bomb', 'Softboiled', 'Egg gather', 'Egg Display'...)

    You just like eggs!! (another comedic slap)

    All right...! We're starting to get the hang of it! Let's do it one more time! (Hey Pearl can we rest for a little?)

  • I'm s... sorry D-Dai... L-lend me y-your shoulder for a bit, will ya...? I-i... c-can't stop... T-trembling... So missy wasn't a tour guide after all... S-she's a real lady... The daughter of a wealthy family! Rich enough to employ professional bodyguards to... (Diamond confesses, saying that he has always known) Dia! No... i mean, Diamond! You mean you knew?! 

    (Paka and Uji have been hit with a galactic laser and have disappeared before their eyes, they should be terrified and perhaps angry?)

  • Eh?! Who told you to do such a thing?! Why didn't you get on Garchomp on my signal?! I told you to escape!! Who told you to do something like that!!! Dai! Are you an idiot?! 

    (Pearl is under the impression that diamond had been fatally wounded by an attack from Cyrus, the antagonist. Diamond had stayed behind to steal his camera while Pearl had thought that Diamond had retreated alongside him and Platinum. Pearl is upset, and progressively moves from disbelief to anger.)

Platinum is the "passive"  protagonist. She's been a bookworm and sole successor to the Berlitz family, a powerful and affluent family from the Sinnoh region. As such, she was raised to be elegant and intelligent, and due to this comes off as arrogant and rude. As the story progresses however, she slowly lets go of this pride and becomes a well-rounded person. She leaves from home to complete her family's ancient tradition, which is to reach the top of Coronet Mountain and craft a crest that is to be passed on to future generations. Along the way she goes on to take the gym challenge while Diamond and Pearl support her in whichever way they can.

As shes very confident in her knowledge this passes onto her voice which results in a posh, self assured tone. Thanks to this, I can see a British accent working but its your call if that's what you'd like to perform. 

  • My Butler had warned me not to give my name out to commoners. Let us be off then. To the peak of Mt. Coronet! 

    (Platinum's journey finally begins.)

  • M-Ms Fantina let me borrow your phone Sebsatian, it's me.... I just saw the news The researcher who disappeared from the conference at Canalave city... Is my father.

     (Platinum has just defeated Fantina, the gym leader, and hears of the tragic news. Remember, her world is falling apart.)

  • Good morning... Rapidash, Empoleon. It is weird to be the first one in the lobby. Pearl would always be here before me, greeting me with a look that had "You're so slow!" written all over it. After that, Diamond would be the next to come down, still rubbing his eyes. We would know that he was coming down because our Pokédexes would start beeping. Then, we would turn the beeping off and start a new day. I suppose I won't hear that beeping today...

    Everyday, it would beep often... But i wonder why... It's just a sound... It's just a... (Platinum begins to sob)

    (The Trio have split due to Team Galactics plan to bomb all three Sinnoh lakes, this is their first morning apart.)

Cynthia is the Sinnoh regions champion. She's seen throughout the story and is an active player in this game. She's often helping the main cast through whatever crisis they may be in and acts as a mentor figure. She's a well educated person and likes to study archaeology as an interest. She's a bit of a goof though and doesn't take herself too seriously, which leads her to acting as comedy relief during her earlier appearances.

She should be a strong and confident mid range voice.

  • How long has it been since I last saw something so heartwarming? Three friends battling their pokemon against each other? All three of them are going to change forms soon. Those three pokemon sure are interesting. It's so obvious from their rate of growth they've been together all this time..

    Oh! Just like i said they would!

    (she's walking past the trio and makes the previous comment)

  • Pfffahaha! "Gardenia the Gardener?!" Yes! That was an interesting double act! I'm Cynthia, if you three are going to challenge the Eterna Gym then i might be able to give you a pointer or two!

    (She's heard the Duos unpopular comedy routine, but to everyones shock, she loves it!)

  • Now then, the bicycle shop owner of this city has been attacked by someone.. And all the clues from my investigation point to this building. I can hear cries for help coming from the highest floor! 

    (Cynthia gets down to business.)

Mars is one of the three commanders of Team Galactic, and acts as one of series antagonist. She acts as the unofficial sister to jupiter and saturn. Her personality is that of a spoiled child who doesn't care for what's happening as long as she enjoys it, shown when she hears Diamond and Pearls comedy routine and actually finds it funny. 

Her naivete and lack of life experience would leave her to having a higher range but still sounding like a teenager.

  • Don't move! If you try to run again your lab coat won't be the only thing Zubat tears up this time!


  • I was wondering why there were intruders in the power station... You sent that Drifloon to get help, didn't you, Chief? Looks like a punishment is in order! Zubat!

    (She's being playfully threatening)

  • Yes, those status ailments are really troublesome. It's so hard to make the battle go your way when afflicted with them. (Shes been drawn in by their routine!) Oh I know!! It's "paralyze"!!! Ahaha! That interesting! Really interesting!

Paka is to Uji as Diamond is to Pearl. Uji is one of the bodyguards originally entrusted to help Platinum make her way through the Sinnoh region before Professor Rowans mishap with the two protagonist. As such, they spend the first half of the story catching up to the trio until they are disposed of via Team Galactic energy beam. They re-appear during the Platinum volumes, or around the end of the series.


Paka should have a mid-low voice. Preferably more bass in his voice, but he should sound competent. He is a professional after all.

  • We're Profesionals, aren't we? 'Escort Missy to the peak of Mt. Coronet.' That was the mission we were entrusted with, and yet.. (Calm and collected)

    Missy Berlitz, our client, has failed to show up at the appointed place and time! What on earth can this possibly mean?!

    (frantic and confused, but in a comedic way)

  • According to the eyewitness at the northern gate she definitely came by here! She must be somewhere nearby, Uji!

    1: More Importantly, i'd like for you listen to us while we can still talk...

    2: That's why we were thinking of taking in students some day to train them up to par... When we fought alongside the both of you just now, it felt like our wish has been granted. 

    Even though it was just for a brief while, it's been fun!

Uji is to Paka as Pearl is to Diamond. Paka is one of the bodyguards originally entrusted to help Platinum make her way through the Sinnoh region before Professor Rowans mishap with the two protagonist. Uji should have a mid voice, preferably on the slightly seductive side. I imagine him as the smooth talker of the duo.

  • Without a doubt we are in this situation because of some mix-up! We must find a way to overcome this crisis! After all, we're still on a mission! 

    (Worried but filled with confidence, they are professionals afterall.)

  • She had gone to Oreburgh City from Jubilife City via 203, after that she changed directions and took route 204, passing by Floaroma Town, Eterna Forest, and eventually Eterna City aswell.



  • 1: That's enough you two.

    2: I often tell Paka that we may have become pretty strong bodyguards after all that training we went though, but... If we can't pass down out techniques to someone else, then that's all there'll be to us in the end. Just 'a couple of guys who were strong.'

Roark Is the rock-type Gym leader of Oreburgh city and son of Byron, Gym leader of Canalave city. He's a young energetic man who looks up to his father and wants to be the best gym leader he can be. All around swell guy. He does have a semi major role in the distant future.

His should be Mid-high, but lower interpretations are also welcomed. An idea would be to go for a protagonist-y voice!

  • I'm back! Sorry for leaving the coal mining to you guys all this time... So how'd it go? 

  • And who is This lady here? I see! Sorry to have kept you waiting! Are you on a journey? Is it all right if we hold this challenge the day after tomorrow? Great! Just come find me whenever you're ready!

    You did the right thing by sending a water type in first to deal with Cranidos. After all, i'm a rock type expert! But! Your strategy made it easier for me to come up with a counter-measure!

An aged researcher on par with the famed Professor Oak, Elm, and Birch. He seems to have gone through a great deal of conflict back in his day and his attitude reflects it.

He should have a deep and weathered voice, or just plain ol' deep!

  • It's been a long time since I last returned to Sinnoh. Have they turned this place into a circus?!

    (Rowan ought be a bit cranky for the first sentence, while being full on annoyed by the second)

  • You're surprisingly calm about letting your only daughter do such a dangerous thing.
