Persona 5: The Fandub X: Wave Two

It's time for round two! P5FX is back again for its second wave of casting!

What is P5X?
Persona 5: The Phantom X is a free-to-play gacha game for iOS, Android, and PC, released in China, Korea, and Taiwan in 2024, with it coming to the West, Japan, and South East Asia in 2025. It takes place in an alternate timeline of the Persona 5 series, with a new host of Phantom Thieves, and a focus on alternate worlds as a whole. The main protagonist, Wonder, forms the Phantom Thieves of Desires to restore hope back to the public by stealing the hearts of "Menaces", targets of the group that cause others around them to lose their faith in the world. The game itself bears a lot of similarity to the Persona 5 style, whilst giving a new unique spin on the franchise.

What exactly would this group aim to do?
With the current lack of an English dub and one not in the works, P5FX would give voice actors and fans of the series a chance to voice these new characters, as well as older ones such as the original Phantom Thieves of Hearts, and eventually members of SEES, the Investigation Team and potentially even characters from Persona 1 alongside the Persona 2 duology. Our goal would be to dub content as it is released globally, using in-game footage as the base. This can range from social links, general story cutscenes, or even battle lines. The possibilities are truly endless. We would aim to publish these videos at a moderate rate on our eventual channel, as this is not necessarily a project with strict deadlines attached to it, and more of just what it should be, a group of fans having fun.
An important thing to point out is that this is entirely fanmade and completely non-profit. We as a group do not wish to stand as any sort of "official" dub for the game, and if one is to be announced, our videos will always be distinct from the 'P5FX' or 'Persona 5: The Fandub X' tag used.

What is 'Wave 2'?
Due to the fact P5X is a live-service game, with new content being added as time progresses, we have decided to cast in waves. This second wave will feature both Phantom Idols and Phantom Thieves from version 2.0 to 3.0 of the game, including others such as the main antagonist of the third arc. If you see a character in the game, but not in this wave, it is because we thought it'd be best to wait until that character receives more content in the game. Additional casting calls will be made for future characters when we decide to cover that content.

What about the characters that already have English voice actors?
If an official dub were to come along, I have no doubts that the extremely talented cast of Persona 5 Royal alongside the cast of Persona 3 Reload (amongst others) would be brought back and do an excellent job in their characters. As a fandub project, we are not asking for people to simply replicate their voices. We will value your own interpretation on a character like Joker more than if you were to simply audition sounding like his voice actor.

Before You Audition
You need to be 15+ to audition.
Please make sure you have Discord to communicate with the team and be prepared to do just that. We value communication heavily.
There will be no casting done until the deadline hits.
This is an optional requirement, but being a fan of the Persona franchise will always be an extra boost due to the fact you'll be able to understand a lot of the terminology used. However, if you aren't a fan or haven't even gotten into it, this should not deter you whatsoever, and whether someone is a superfan or may simply be seeing Persona for the first time through this Casting Call will not impact any chances of them being cast.

When Submitting Your Audition
Please record your auditions in the 'ABC' format. You can have a maximum of three takes for each line, but you are not required to.
Within the additional notes, please leave a name you would like to go by, your Discord username and any additional information you feel you should add.
MP3 or WAV format.
Your voice quality will be very important to how far your audition may go with us. If there's a significant amount of background noise or you are consistently peaking for example, there's a good chance that your audition will be rejected almost instantly. We are not too picky on audio quality as a lot of irregularities can be fixed in production, but the cleaner, the better.
If possible, please do not submit an audition recorded on your phone. However, an external microphone attached to your phone is more than okay.
Please don't artificially modify your voice in any shape or capacity. You will be rejected instantly.

Ayaka Sakai is a college student and musician who often performs at Shibuya Station Square. However, she only plays guitar and never sings because of her introverted personality. A cognitive manifestation of Ayaka as a phantom idol under the codename Chord was created by Merope from Nagisa Kamishiro’s cognition. She used to be the guitarist and songwriter of a band she joined in high school, invited by her friends. After graduating, the members went apart, hence their band performance was also paused. Still, Ayaka continues her song writing out of her passion to music. The protagonist encounters her when she is looking for her busking permit and eventually makes friends with her. He gets to learn skills of playing bass from Ayaka, and Ayaka gains courage to sing in front of people from him.
Voice Description: Medium-high female vocal range. Very upbeat at her best, very dejected at her worst, Ayaka's mood can often shift quite quickly, mainly because of her introverted personality, but it's clear she always puts her best foot forward. Slowly regains her confidence over the course of her synergy.
Extra: If possible, please also include a link of you singing within your audition. This can be a YouTube video, social media post, raw audio file, etc. This is completely optional, but as Ayaka sings her own theme and sings throughout her synergy, we would lean towards somebody who can perform as both a voice actor and a singer for the character. We are still more than willing to cast somebody who may not be a singer, so please don't let this deter you!

Kira Kitazato is a 25-year-old intern doctor working at a local hospital in Tokyo. He is keen on studying various disease cases, but also like playing pranks with eyeball toys. He seems to have a hidden reason for becoming a doctor. A cognitive manifestation of Kira as a phantom idol under the codename Messa was created by Merope from Nagisa Kamishiro’s cognition. Kira is skilled at playing shooting games and often plays at the arcade in Shibuya, which is where the protagonist meets him. When he focuses on his playing, he becomes verbally arrogant and aggressive. After getting familiar with each other, Kira reveals that he is privately conducting an experiment through playing shooting games to observe people's reactions under adverse situations, and find the solution to help people regain their desires to live.
Voice Description: Low-medium male vocal range. Playful in nature, Kira's initial appearance may throw people off, but it's clear he cares about his patients. A bit of a daredevil and strongly competitive in all areas of his life.

Masaki Ashiya is a third-year student at Kokatsu Academy. With his parents being botanists, Masaki has developed a passion for flowers since he was a child. Though having no concerns of daily living thanks to his wealthy family, he works part-time at the flower shop in Shibuya to stay close to flowers. A cognitive manifestation of Masaki as a phantom idol under the codename Cherish was created by Merope from Nagisa Kamishiro’s cognition. Though having a gentle personality, he does not know how to keep an appropriate distance with people, which explains why he does not have many friends. Masaki comes to know the protagonist after he starts working at the same flower shop, and the two soon become friends. He enjoys their friendship so much that he often invites the protagonist to have dinner together and pays for the bills.
Voice Description: Medium-high male vocal range. Compassionate, caring, and almost a little too friendly for his own good. Incredibly soft spoken with a heart of gold, wishing to protect any and all of his friends.

Leo Kamiyama is an aspiring stuntman for action films and TV who lives with his aunt Kayo Tomiyama. A cognitive manifestation of Leo as a phantom idol under the codename Leon was created by Merope from Nagisa Kamishiro’s cognition. A 19-year-old who dreams of becoming a stuntman for Japanese action films and TV. Leo has been set on this path ever since his childhood obsession with the action series "Phoenix Ranger Featherman." Leo is a Tokusatsu enthusiast who is currently attending acting school out of his love for the genre.
Voice Description: Medium male vocal range. A bit of a hothead, but overall, he's determined and passionate about his goals. Often has trouble communicating with the older generation, but tries his best.

Kotone Montagne is a French-Japanese second-year student and a figure skater. Once a world-class figure skater, she fell into a slump and stopped skating competitively after a slew of injuries and harsh evaluations. A cognitive manifestation of Kotone as a phantom idol under the codename Mont was created by Merope from Nagisa Kamishiro’s cognition. After Tomoko's Synergy Link, Kotone regains her motivation to skate. On her first day back, she wants to skate with love, but has trouble understanding love and seeks out the protagonist for help.
Voice Description: Medium female vocal range. Polite and respectful, but prone to emotion, very considerate of her own feelings. A celebrity, but she doesn't let the fame get to her head, preferring the quiet life.

Aran Hirano is a first-year student who attends Kiga High School. She's a well-renowned manga artist who operates under the name ANRI. Aran is an introverted but resolute person. She is passionate about drawing manga, and has a habit of drawing sketches of things that she is interested to on her notebook. She is curious about the protagonist and his partners, even follows them and eavesdrops on their conversations. After she gets to know them, she also shows her supportive attitude to their actions.
Voice Description: Medium female vocal range. Very awkward and shy, but when she talks about her work, she is very enthusiastic. Seems to be hiding a secret that makes her prone to headaches; quite protective.

Futaba Sakura is a former shut-in who eventually starts attending Shujin Academy as a second-year. She is a member of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, also known under the codename Oracle. With a case of social anxiety bordering on agoraphobia developed from the trauma of losing her mother Wakaba Isshiki, combined with her generally introverted personality, Futaba is strongly uncomfortable with going outside. When the protagonist first meets her, she is a shut-in who does not attend school and almost never leaves her room. Futaba begins to change after meeting the protagonist and the other Phantom Thieves, as she begins to practice opening up and challenging her own boundaries. Beneath her anxiety, Futaba has a childish side and enjoys teasing her friends.
Voice Description: High-medium female vocal range. Awkward in social situations, but around friends; very playful and loves to tease them. Extremely knowledgeable of her interests and enjoys correcting people when they're wrong.
NOTE: You can use the official English voice of Futaba, Erica Lindbeck, as a reference, but this is not a requirement nor will it influence the final casting decision.

Haru Okumura is a third-year student who attends Shujin Academy and the heiress to Okumura Foods. She is a member of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, also known under the codename Noir. Haru is generally very shy and reserved. At school, she is viewed as eccentric due to her tendency to keep to herself and avoid contact with others as much as possible. She has serious trust issues, finding it difficult to differentiate between who truly values her as a friend, and who merely wants to use her for her family's status. This is due to her past, where not only friends, but adults and teachers would be kind to her just to please her father and smile at her for their own personal gain. Despite this, Haru is an incredibly kind-hearted girl. Initially, Haru behaves very formally towards the group, believing that it's her responsibility as the newest member of the team. After being told that whether or not she's new doesn't matter to them, however, she loosens up and becomes much more casual.
Voice Description: High female vocal range. Extremely sophisticated and well-spoken, always remembers her manners no matter the person she speaks to. Can get slightly carried away when faced with the prospect of handing out justice, causing others to be scared of her.
NOTE: You can use the official English voice of Haru, Xanthe Huynh, as a reference, but this is not a requirement nor will it influence the final casting decision.

Kei Akashi is a supposed "educational consultant" sent to Kokatsu Academy. He is the fourth main target of the Phantom Thieves of Desire, emotionally manipulating Kumi Katayama to force out the group and discover their identity for his superior. Akashi appears initially to be a mild-mannered, compassionate, friendly, reasonable, caring, sympathetic, humble and kind man that wishes to help his students succeed. However, it is shown that his true nature is a very callous, unsympathetic, calculating and manipulative one, showing this attitude towards those he can make use of and exploit their vulnerabilities. He shows no care for the well-being of those he hurts, latching onto them and manipulating them for all that they are worth. Akashi is extremely vengeful and will relentlessly target those who wronged him. He believes in a "strong eat the weak" mindset and that those who are strong have the right to exploit the weak to achieve their goals.
Voice Description: Medium male vocal range. For a lack of better terms, he's slimy. Extremely manipulative and intent on carrying out his objectives. Shares no feelings for his own targets or what may happen to them.
