Pearl Undertow
Project Overview
Project Title: Pearl Undertow
Project Overview:
4 minute 2D animated thesis film about Iris, a young woman who becomes lost in a surreal subconscious world and must find a reason to return to reality. Along the way, she reconnects with her childhood friend, Ruby, and revisits memories of hope, courage, and growing up. The film explores themes of emotional resilience, memory, and the journey from childhood to adulthood.
Both characters require a voice actor who can perform both the adult and the mid-teen versions of the role.
The voice should feel like the same person at two different ages, so we’re looking for actors who can adjust their pitch and energy slightly to create a younger version while keeping the same overall tone and personality.
This is a student production, and all roles are volunteer positions with a flat-rate payment. Voice actors selected for the project will be contacted during December and will receive the complete animatic and script ahead of recording.
Applicants should have access to proper recording equipment capable of delivering clean, professional audio.
This film is planned to be submitted to film festivals and contests after completion.

(Late-20s to early-30s)
A calm, gentle, introspective woman with a soft emotional undercurrent. For the first half of the film, she should sound slightly dazed or distant, as if drifting. Her voice doesn’t reveal all her emotions, it feels held back, subdued. When she finally rediscovers her reason to return to reality, a quiet warmth comes through.
Teen Version (mid-teens):
A slightly higher and lighter tone. Soft, quiet, with a touch of uncertainty about the future, but not overly emotional or unstable.

Wait… Where did everything go?
Let’s get out of here.
(Teen Version): Maybe… I just… don’t know if I’ll ever grow up.

(Late-20s to Early-30s):
A warm, grounded woman with a steady, reassuring tone. Her voice feels solid and comforting, giving others a sense of stability. She shows emotion more openly than Iris, but not in an overly bright or bubbly way, her straightforward delivery carries a gentle undercurrent of concern. Overall, she has a voice that feels steady and dependable.
Teen Version (mid-teens):
A slightly higher, lighter tone. Radiating an innocent, hopeful energy. Bright but still grounded, with a natural sense of optimism and small, earnest dreams about the future.

Finally found you. Iris, do you have any idea how dangerous this is?
No! Don’t you remember me? (urgent)
(Teen Version): Stop worrying. Let’s just dream a little, okay?
