We’re adding partial voice acting to our commercial Visual Novel “Our Life: Beginnings & Always”. It’s a slice-of-life story with comedy, romance, drama, and many wonderful memories to make. It’s rated 16+ for some mature topics. It doesn’t include explicit content.

A main feature of OL is that you get to live through four different periods of life; childhood, adolescence, teenaged, and adulthood.
During the story you grow up with a boy named Cove Holden. Right now we’re looking to voice his child and adolescent versions. There will be another casting call next year to find a voice for Cove’s teenage and adult versions, as well as many other characters.
General Info:
We’ll need two types of words for this; names and normal words. A special option in the game is to pick a name for the playable character that has voice acting along with it. A large part of this job is going to be just saying different names. The name lines are paid more because they’ll require extra takes/inflections.
There will be a Kickstarter to fund the project. But these roles are for the demo and will be completed/paid for regardless of what happens with the crowd-funding endeavor.
Payment: 25 cents per name, 20 cents per normal word

Cove is male, though the VA doesn’t have to identify as a male themselves in order to audition.
If a VA doesn’t have time to audition we can also accept demo reels that include a young male sounding voice
VAs can audition for both versions of Cove or they can try for just one.
We’re planning on having a different Cove VA for every time period. But in a special case we may double cast a VA to play Cove in more than one life stage.
The word count estimate that’s listed is the minimum. There’s a possibility the amount will increase.
Process:
- We’ll be accepting auditions until the end of September 22nd, 2019.
- Starting on September 23rd we’ll begin considering the VAs.
- Unless a personal issue arises we’ll send messages to VAs we’re interested in hiring around the 25th of September.
- The casting call will be officially closed once we find VAs who accept the roles.
- We won’t be able to individually inform VAs that they weren’t cast. Please check here to see what the final cast list is.
- For VAs who are hired, we’d get started on the first batch of lines as soon as possible.
This is a long-term job. Batches of lines will be needed periodically for the next year or so.
Auditioning:
You can send in your audition as an email with the file as an attachment or with a link to where the file is.
Please have clear audio with no background noise.
Please don’t edit the pitch of your voice or add other audio effects.
Two to three takes are preferred, but not required.

Voice: Childishly high-pitched and a bit boyish. He speaks pretty delicately.
An honest boy who lives up to his namesake. The most common place you’ll find this Cove is somewhere along the seashore. He has a mild temperament and enough child-like curiosity to take an interest in just about everything.
It’s a tumultuous time in Cove’s life. With his parents having recently separated and moving to a new place, days end in tears as often as they do in smiles. But he never gives up on what he cares about.
“I'll try to get something for you. Then we can be even.”
(Mild, casual, relaxed, sweet. Cove’s friend helped him catch a firefly and he wants to return the favor.)
“Is this your hill? I can leave if it is...”
(Sad, distant, guarded. Cove ran off to be by himself but someone he didn’t know found him. He’s trying to talk calmly, but is still unhappy and nervous.)
“Hey, cool crash! I think Jamie was the first one at the bottom!”
(Amused, excited, shouting to the bottom of a hill. Cove was acting as a judge to determine who rolled to the bottom of a hill fastest. It ended with the participants colliding, which made him laugh)
Voice: A lower pitch than his child version, though still boyish rather than mature.
A true blue local of the town. Cove’s father ultimately decided to put down roots in Sunset Bird and Cove has spent a handful of years growing up there.
He’s still got plenty of his youthful qualities, but it’s possible to notice new facets in his personality. The way he talks to people might have shifted to be warmer or colder. His free time might be being spent on different activities. And perhaps more.
“Yeah. I mean, it's nice seeing you, too. Not that it's nice for you to see me.”
(Bashful, awkward, stilted. He’s nervously trying to have a conversation with his crush. He agreed that it was nice to see him, but he meant it was nice to see them)
“I hope your family likes this. It's a pretty good gift. I think so, anyway.”
(Casual, mildly friendly, laid back. He’s delivering something sent by his dad)
“Jamie is not stupid!”
(Taken aback, defensive, mad. Someone unfairly insulted his friend and he’s not okay with that)
