Odyssey Of The Dragonborn Master Casting Call (TES V: Skyrim DLC Sized Mod)

Project Overview

What Is Odyssey Of The Dragonborn?

Odyssey Of The Dragonborn is a multi-part The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim mod series, which put the Dragonborn on a path to reforge the covenant with Akatosh and re-form the Amulet Of Kings. It is also a continuation of the story laid down in Legacy of the Dragonborn, a Skyrim DLC Sized Quest Mod.

Odyssey Of The Dragonborn will continue this epic storyline of prophecy and destiny by taking the player to various far-off locales across Tamriel in search of their ultimate destiny of seeing the wheel come full circle as the prophecy indicates. You will also find out the Thalmor’s ultimate goal is not only to take over the world but also to destroy it in order to attain their lost immortality. A plot is uncovered through the course of Odyssey’s acts which leads the player into a race to achieve goals and fight off the Thalmor.

Requirements For Auditioning Voice Actors:

We are currently looking for 18 years of age or older voice actresses and actors with at least a Blue Yeti mic, a fair amount of voice acting or real life acting experience, a pop filter, the ability to name files correctly based on information from either a Spreadsheet or a Google Doc, and the ability to do basic audio processing.

You also should be able to follow instructions and read the entirety of this project description before reading the listed characters and auditioning for one.

Do note that you should ideally play Skyrim, Oblivion, and/or Morrowind in order to get a feel for the accent of each race’s voice, as we won’t be describing the sound of each race for each character and the generic race accent examples provided in this casting call’s project description section do not account for the variations found within the game for each race’s voice.

Some of the proper nouns and references that may pop up in the audition lines may require knowledge of the lore, characters, and stories of The Elder Scrolls universe in general, Skyrim, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Legacy of the Dragonborn. You can attain this knowledge through either playing these games and/or mods and/or be reading over material on https://www.imperial-library.info/, watch lore videos such as those from ShoddyCast (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7pGJQV-jlzCPBUy9uAXQUXZ4UBaDLKS5) or the Skyrim Wiki (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Skyrim).

Instructions For Auditioning Voice Actors:

We request that all VAs who are interested are also able to communicate and send/receive files through Discord servers and DMs. On Discord, you will be communicating with me (@ACTIONFIGHTER11#2791) via DMs or the Odyssey of the Dragonborn’s VA Discord Server's public chat. If you are casted, you will receive your lines within a week through discord along with recording instructions, deadline, accent specifications, character bios, and line directions.

This casting call operates on a round based procedure system. If you need a solid example of how this system works, you can look at how I manage the voice actor casting another DLC sized mod, Fallout: The Frontier (Fallout New Vegas DLC Sized Mod) (https://www.castingcall.club/projects/fallout-the-frontier-casting-call-round-4-fallout-new-vegas-dlc-sized-mod).

In a nutshell, every 2 weeks or so or whenever I get a sizable amount of characters that need casting, you will see a posting on this casting call looking for 12 or so voice actors for 12 or so roles. That round of the casting call will take around 2 weeks until it reaches its deadline. Afterward, the Odyssey of the Dragonborn development team and I will come up with our conclusions, after 2 or so days, regarding who to cast for each role and release the results here through officially casting each of the characters listed for that particular round. A fair and reasonable amount of time will pass for me to get the round of casted VAs set up with their recording instructions and set up the next round of the casting call before the next round of the casting call begins. This cycle of rounds for the casting call continues until all characters in this mod are cast and voiced.

If you do request to communicate with us through Email or other communication software, please send a private message to my profile on Casting Call Club and explain your situation. I will work with you via CCC Private Messaging to find a solution.

For all characters, we expect lines to be sent back following the correct organization and formatting specified during DM conversation within a month of receiving the script. If recording your lines takes more than a month, please notify me as soon as possible via Discord DMs and we can work out a solution.

If you do not notify me of the possibility that a one month turnaround time is not enough when that is the case, I will be proceeding with the standard procedure by expecting line submissions within a month of receiving the script. If you are casted and have any complications, please notify me via Discord DMs as soon as possible. Additionally, parts of our development such as main quest content are in flux, which means certain characters from those parts of development may receive more lines to record after the initial script sending. These characters will have a tag of (IN FLUX) next to their name. If you are auditioning for an In flux Character, please be ready to receive lines in batches separated by varying periods of time once you are casted as the VA for him/her.

Lead characters will have over 100 lines. (If you are casted or auditioning for a major character, make sure you have enough time set aside for recording.) Supporting characters will have between 100 lines and 20 lines. Minor characters will have between 20 lines and 10 lines. Extra characters will have less than 10 lines.

Depending on the Elder Scrolls race of the role, we may expect a certain accent. For example, High Elves generally have an upper-class and snobbish English accent.

Firstly, we will include a tag with each role specifying the race it has and any other specifications so you can know the general sound of that voice. Secondly, it is your responsibility to have that accent mastered and build your actual performance on top of that foundation.

Please do not apply filters or noticeable effects to your audition unless the character specifically specifies to do so. The post-processing you need to do to your audition audio for the majority of characters posted will be a removal of room tone/static, mouse clicks, and audio/vowel volume peaking. Any voice actors that that fail to do so noticeably will not be reviewed for their performance and be required to resubmit.

To help anyone who is an experienced voice actor, but unfamiliar with the races of Skyrim and how they should sound, here are some **notable and generic examples I have pulled up which provide a general feeling for the accent and sound of each race.

Do note that Imperials and Bretons generally have the same accent in the mod due to there not being very much difference between both races.

**Important Note: While these are examples of the way the voices of each race generally sound, there are variations and different types to each voice. The examples of each shown below are just general examples and there are other interpretations present in Skyrim that you can refer to. Feel free to experiment.

Nord: https://youtu.be/Tevzv7QsF7g?t=7

Imperial and Breton: https://youtu.be/gSq5o-FI5vY

(The first few Imperial soldier lines in the video should give you a good feeling of how Imperials and Bretons sound.)

Redguard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Pm0iTU2p3E

(A more Arabic sounding interpretation of how Redguards should sound like.)

Dark Elf: https://youtu.be/nCwNxz4IkU0?t=41 OR the Cockney Accent OR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvkjmnRRcG4&t=1s for the Morrowind Style Dark Elf.

Wood Elf: https://youtu.be/KwI8S1W3jSE?t=71

High Elf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80mGPSRA9N0

Khajiit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mxx4Qf1-Xc

Orc: https://youtu.be/idkDj_MJLPA?t=2

Argonian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4jW6SZt9C4 or https://youtu.be/hBIGrJGMc0k?t=205 for the Morrowind Style Argonian.

We also may recruit voice actors to voice other organisms such as Dragons and Daedra in the future. In only these instances, further details regarding the general sound of the voice of each organism as well as any required post-processing effects to be included in the audition will be provided on a case by case basis.

Dragons: https://youtu.be/XpgLDjLwego?t=3

Daedra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdU4V3bNn-g

You should record all 3 audition lines included for each character. For character listings that have less than 3 lines, you should record for every single audition line provided. For each audition line, record 2 takes. Be sure to follow the scene context and line instructions provided for the audition line. You should be recording through an audio recording software like Audacity or Adobe Audition. You should export and submit your audition as a .wav audio file with the settings of 44.1 kHz, 16 bits, and mono recording format. You do not need to limit yourself in the number of characters you audition for. In some cases, we go ahead and cast a voice actor for two or more roles if they're good enough.

If you get casted, but we lose contact with you for over a month without notice and with no ability to reach you, we will open your role again and cast someone else.

Once the deadline date is reached for a certain batch of characters, we will no longer accept more auditions for the specified roles within that batch. Over the next few days or so, we will go over the submitted auditions and cast our characters.

CCC will automatically send you a message if you get casted. Additionally, we will send a private message to your CCC profile containing information on how to join a discord server where voice acting for the Odyssey of the Dragonborn is managed. If there are any complications preventing that, please respond to our private message as soon as possible and we will work out solutions with you.

Final Message For Auditioning Voice Actors:

For those that audition and don’t make the cut, don’t lose heart as there are more characters to be up for grabs on this casting call page. This is only one viewable batch of characters out of the many batches that will be released and that we need your help with voicing them. Do note that the roles listed in this casting call that you currently can see are not all available roles for the project, more will be added over the coming months in batches/rounds. That being said, the deadline will be changed after each casting of old characters and accompanied posting of new characters. If a Skyrim race/gender combination is not listed that you might want to try, send me a PM!

Best of luck! I look forward to hearing your great auditions!

Generic Old Orc is a generic NPC that the player can encounter. Although he may be old and wise, he is still capable of giving a good fight and desires to die within one as well.

Record all audition lines while referring to the notes below for each line and do one take of each line.

For the first audition line, you are about to engage in a fight to the death with an enemy. You are intimidating and fearless. Your opponent will be cut down with ease.

For the second audition line, you are happily greeting an old friend. You've had many fond experiences working alongside this individual in peacetime or conflict. You love to relive the glory days when you have a chance to chat with this person.

For the third audition line, you see someone who appears to be a bit sick and suffering from an illness. You do not want to become sick as then you will lack the physical might expected from any orc and may die by a disease which is a low way to go as opposed to dying in combat. However, you still feel pity for this individual and hope he/she gets proper treatment soon.

  • I will tear you apart!

  • Good to see you friend!

  • You don't look so good. Maybe go see a healer or something.

For the second audition line, you are happily greeting an old friend. You fondly remember all of the discussions you've had with him/her recently about the true gods, Azura, Boethiah, and Mephala, as well as lamenting the disappearance of the old ways of Morrowind. You only feel respect and honor towards this person.

For the third audition line, you see someone who appears to be a bit sick and suffering from an illness. You feel only disgust and fear when seeing this person. You hope that they'll disappear and get out of your sight as soon as possible since you believe that the weak should perish while the strong should survive.

  • Good to see you friend!

  • You look really pale, like a walking corpse or something...

Well mannered and cultured and having a proper grasp of the Tamrielic language, any high elf could be mistaken for nobility by the other races of Skyrim. Your kind is skilled in the art of commerce and politics. Your kind has ruled over many lands in the past and you have been part of great empires lasting for hundreds of years. However, currently the Imperials are not doing as well as they did in the past due to subjugation by the Third Aldmeri Dominion, and unlike the rest of your kin, you don't believe the Imperial Empire will ever return to glory again.  You are very bitter about the current abysmal state of the Empire and see no way of fixing it. You are someone who hasn't been treated kindly throughout life and have developed a very cynical and depressing view of the world. You prefer to just be alone with your thoughts unless meeting with one of the few persons who understands you and hate social interaction. You have a North American generic accent.

For the second audition line, you spot an old friend, one of the few you have. You enjoy complaining with him/her about the ineffectiveness of the Mede Empire. You feel respect and kindness towards this person.

For the third audition line, you see someone who appears to be a bit sick and suffering from an illness. You feel only disgust and fear when seeing this person. You hope that they'll disappear and get out of your sight as soon as possible since you don't want some beggar making you bedridden.
