Nebufaery Audio Drama

Nebufaery Audio Drama

Project Overview

Hi! I hope you're all having a stellar day. I am a hobbyist artist and my biggest dream in life is to create an animated series called Nebufaery. Lately I've been making a prequel comic for the cartoon, but due to physical and mental health barriers I'm unable to draw at the moment. So until I'm okay enough again, I want to make the first Nebufaery audio drama/story reading, which will serve as a prequel to the comic! So... a preprequel?

You can drop by here if you want to check out the comic so far.

The audio drama will simply require three voices; the narrator, Quasar, and Ianthe. The story is drafted but not finalized; at the moment it seems as if it will end up being anywhere between 1,000-1,500 words total. So not too long for a story. The story contents may be rather confusing as there is a lot of vagueness and it is a made-up world. It's a sort of prequel that will make more sense later on.

The plot is pretty much how the main character Quasar met her current best friend after a mysterious tragedy. Nothing too complex, just giving a little insight to these characters. There's no swearing or other vulgar types of language.

Sadly I'm barely an adult and my family is financially unstable so I can't offer much money, but I'm offering what I can. I understand if it's not enough for you to feel like giving it a try. The completed audio drama will be posted to Youtube and you will be credited in the video as well as the description of course.

Thanks for looking!

  • Update

Heyo! One of my friends is helping me put together the audio and I will post it as a Youtube video when it's done--I didn't have time to work on it because I got overworked with other things unfortunately :( I'll post the link here when we're done! <3 The next project will be for brief animated shorts so keep an eye out for that; it'll be super exciting! I can't remember how much of this I've already said before, oops. See you again soon!
  • Roles chosen! And what's coming next...

I have finished selecting people for all three roles. My first experience using Casting Call was excellent and I thank everyone who auditioned; as I mentioned before, even if you didn't get picked, there are a few people I think would fit my future projects excellently. So I'd be glad to invite you to my next auditions. ;) I will be away all day tomorrow and I am generally very busy so I apologize if communication is slow. I will make another update when the story reading is finished so everyone can check out the result! And what's next... later this year I will be testing the waters making Nebufaery animated shorts, in advance to the full-episode series project. The animation will focus on different characters than the prequel comic and this story, so I'll be needing lots of new voice talents (and a grown-up voice for Quasar). Keep an eye out for that audition next! Thanks again to all you talented people!
  • Thank you!

The casting call period ended a couple of days ago and I greatly apologize for being late on posting an update; I have had a lot of responsibilities overwhelming me. But anyway, thanks to everyone who auditioned! I will be choosing the voices shortly. The story actually ended up being a bit longer than the range I expected with respect to the draft (final word count 1,682 words) and I hope that's not too much of a problem. There are so many unique and talented voice actors who auditioned, and I have listened to most of them, but of course I want to hear ALL of them before making a decision. And there are definitely several of you I am keeping in mind for future Nebufaery projects ;) Thanks again! Can't wait to make selections!

After accidentally causing a tragedy in her family, Quasar is stuck in the first stage of grief; denial. She seems peppy and energetic, perhaps overtly so at times, but she is emotionally destroyed inside. She tries her best to hide this fact from others--and even herself.

Being a made-up species, accent doesn't really matter. She is approximately 15 years old in this story. Her voice is a mix of cute and tomboyish, with some gravel/scratchiness if possible, but still more on the high end of pitches. Maybe like Bev the turtle from those new Littlest Pet Shop World of Our Own shorts, but a little younger sounding. It's fine if your voice doesn't fully match what I have described, you can still give it a shot and I'll see if I like it!

  • I'm fine. Everything's fine. It's all gonna be okay. It won't be this way forever! Things will go back! It was just one silly little mistake!

  • How do you take care of so many?

  • No, nothing's wrong! Why do you keep asking?

Ianthe is a very calm and collected Nebufaery whom Quasar meets and will become friends with. As mentioned before, since these are made-up creatures rather than humans, any accent is fine. She is 18 years old in this story and should have a sweet, soothing voice. She sounds wise but still has a childlike streak. She is worried about Quasar and wants to help her with whatever she's dealing with, even if the only way she can do that is by having a seemingly simple conversation.

  • That's my garden. I've been growing it for years!

  • Are you okay? I don't mean to be intrusive, but you look rather distressed.

  • I believe you should give it a try. Nurturing life can help you heal.

You'll be reading the story aside from the character lines. Any gender or age is fine. All it needs is a pleasant, clear voice good at describing things with decent emphasis and emotion.

Oh and if you need help pronouncing names, just ask me. Nebufaery is pronounced Neh-bew-fairy. It's a combination of nebula and faery.

  • How long had it been since she last stepped outside?

  • Quasar squinted at the sky. It looked different. It was still dotted  with little white stars and adorned with wispy clouds, but the vibrant blue color she remembered was now much paler, and seemed to fade into a lavender tone.

  • It was too much effort for her to be aware of her surroundings. She walked past colorful buildings and lively Nebufaeries, some of which threw her concerned looks, but she felt as if she were the only being in the world right now.
