Project Overview
Hihi I'm Futotori and I'm working on a visual novel for Sealed with a Kiss Jam, that lasts all of January.

For SWAK Jam the game we're making is a dark fantasy drama romance between an accused witch and swamp monster who wants revenge on the one who killed her. The tone of the game is darker, with the location being ambiguous (a combination of different culture's folklore).

Discord will be the main communication so please have an account and be willing to join the server. Please include your discord user in your audition. We'll reach out to you through your discord!
As this is for SWAK VN Jam, we only have until the end of January to finish the game so please bare that in mind. Make sure you have enough time to commit.
The game will be fully voiced so please be prepared for that. You will also need to be able to edit/cut your own audio.

The protagonist of the game and a young aspiring doctor. Eloise was raised by a witch and taught herbalism and alchemy as a child. Despite her lack of magical talents she was a fast learner in every other regard and eager to be helpful to her adoptive mother. Now, she lives alone in the woods, using her wits to survive. Even though the nearby village treats her like a monster witch, she still goes out of her way to heal all that come to her.

[Friendly, Banter] "Haha, don't be so silly Colby. Keep acting so and the goblins will come for your socks! We can't have that now, can we?"
[Scared, Anxious] "Where...Gods damn it all. No, I can't linger in such a place. I need to take in a deep breath...yes... What was it Mother always said? Keep your face forever in the sun, for then the shadows will always fall behind you..."
[Neutral] "Ah, greetings Edmund. I see you are as free spirited as always. It's rather cute I admit but before you say anything I must really be on my way."
One of the main love interests. Odella was a beautiful woman who was killed and thrown into the swamp on her wedding night after being cheated on by her husband. Now a kikimora, Odella has become a living legend said to be the Maiden of the Mire; an evil seductress that lures all to their death. All she wishes for is revenge but as she cannot leave the swamp alone, she takes her anger out on those who pass by.

- Flirtatious
- Easily attached and extreme romantic. The type to believe in love at first sight.
- Insecure and extremely anxious about being cheated on. Loyalty is everything to her.
- Manipulative, Inquisitive and Intelligent. Despite being a little more flirty and less wise around the girl she likes, Odella is a master manipulator and isn't afraid to hurt those she loves if she believes it's right.

[Flirting, Dangerous] "And what is a delicate little thing like you doing amongst the moss and grime? Must you stand so? Come closer and your delicate feet will be free of the earth. Another step and I shall wash your stains clean.". "
[Violent, Angry, Yelling at Aston] "And you?! A man of nothing but blood and bile! A man of truest evil not even one such as I can fathom the depths of the abyss in your heart. And yet here you are again. Before me. At my feet. What say you, Murderer?"
[Friendly, Banter, talking to Colby] "This little boy is meant to be the knight of my precious princess? Inconceivable. Even with all my inners removed, my waist bares more girth than that measly thing. I suppose you could work as a servant yes?"
Edda is the mother to Edmund and wife to Aston. She's a cold and calculating woman that uses everyone as pawns in oder to gain wealth and power. After witnessing the powers of a witch first hand she became obsessed with the idea of occult power and wishes to become a witch herself. She believes that if she eats another witch she will gain their powers. Despite her twisted desire, Edda is outwardly a very affectionate and doting mother and wife, strict with others but always maintaining the upmost elegance. She treats her family as if they are her toys, and gets extremely possessive over them, believing only she can play with their lives.

- Two Faced, Manipulative, Clever and Narcissistic.
- Disloyal, she only ever does things if they are in her favour.
- Strict, Elegant, likes to be very backhanded. She will often give anti-compliments and play mental games to bully others without coming off as cruel or in the wrong

[Calm, Towards Edmund] "Come now, Edmund. I see your kindness is as overabundant as always. But these...lower folk don't even understand what you're sacrificing to be at their level."
[Bully, Cruel] "What was it your said dear? Oh yes, how hard it must be to live alone in the woods. Constantly reminded of your oh so poor adoptive mothers death. Waiting for your own death when you hear the call of wolves, perhaps? Or maybe you find their howls a lullaby, as you must have been used to their calls when you were a babe alone in the woods."
[Insane mode] "Yes-- YES! Come to me O' Atrus, come to me O' creator! Bestow upon this wretch the will of the mother! The will of the child cradled in the hand of revelation! Enter my body, become blood of my blood!"
Colby is a young hunter (17) who believes he owes Eloise his life. Eloise saved his dying grandmothers life and continues to care for her in her weakened state, so Colby feels he owes Eloise a great debt. He brings her caught game often and has on many occasions been the soul source of food for Eloise. He's similar to a brother to her, and despite being gay, Colby has thought about marrying Eloise to keep her safe. On the note of his sexuality, Colby is unaware of why he feels that way and bottles it up. As this is the medieval time period, discussion on homosexuality is very limited.

[Banter, Friendly to Eloise] "No no no, you act all competent and clever but I've seen the way you tie a noose. I'll yet don a dress than you kill a beast."
[Aggravated, Protective] "You dare enter this place, monster? Eloise, get behind me! I sense a dark creature here, a ghast or-- I don't know what but I'll draw it's attention! Quickly now."
[Neutral, Thankful] "My grandma is more stable now... thank you. I know she doesn't have long but she's still here because of you and for that...Well, you already know. I will do anything for you Ellie, I really mean it."
Edmund is the son to Edda and Aston. Raised in luxury and being constantly doted on, Edmund became reliant on his parents to the point of doing whatever they say. He's the village Gaston; the perfect Batchelor. He may be genuine in his love for Eloise; to the point where he changes his attire to be more simple to make her comfortable or how he shuts down gossip that she's a witch, but he's quick to change his mind if his parents are involved. In our modern world he would be a good person, but he acts misogynistic, entitled and even cruel because he believes that is normal and just.

- Friendly, Thoughtful, Kind and Caring
- An EXTREME push over and mummy/daddy's boy
- Lovey-Dovey and romantic-- Many (if not all) of the village women have a crush on him
- Over emotional
- Intense when upset

[Flirting, to Eloise] "Ah, Eloise you really must try these tarts! They have just come in with the season's harvest and they are simply to die for. Worry not, for I'll cover the costs. There's no need to reimburse me but if you insist, your pretty smiling face will do."
[Devastated] "Yes Father...If that is what you say, it must be so. If she is not...who I thought she was...then...Gods I need a moment. Eloise...What have you done? Was it all a lie? A manipulation. The way my heart would flutter when I met your gaze--A spell? It cannot be. Your smile a cruel hex, your smell an addicting perfume. A she-devil. A witch. That is what you are."
[Upset, Short-tempered] "Do not speak ill of her. Eloise is as much a witch as I am a donkey. Spreading such lies will bring you naught but misfortune."
Aston is the reason why there is so many problems. He's the village chief and a cold man who believes witches are evil. Originally he wished to marry Odella as she was beautiful but when she refused him before marriage he grew annoyed and started seeing Edda on the side. When Odella caught Aston cheating on her on their wedding night she threatened to tell everyone he's an adulterer and in response he killed her and threw her body in a swamp. Aston believes that he isn’t in the wrong even when confronted by Odella as the Maiden of the Mire.

- Stubborn, Prideful and Stoic
- Very stuck in his ways and unwilling to change. He always believes he's in the right
- Hard on the outside but on the inside he's a little boy that yearns for attention and will do anything for the person that gives that attention to him. He's easily manipulated

[Cold, Arrogant] "What is it son? Do not pester me with trivialities. If something is in your way simply crush it. You're too emotional like your mother."
[Despair, Confronting Odella] "This...This can't be-- my love-- no...Odella...So it was true. Ha. Gods forgive me you look the same as-- Gods, what have I done...No. No I was-- I was right! I was justified! My love was endless for you-- endless! And yet you locked away your body as if you where some pure nun. I know your secret woman! I know you seduced many-- many young men! I only did the same so you can feel even an ounce of the pain I went through."
[Prideful, Simp] "Yes my dear Edda. I will do as you say. In all the world you alone understand me. For that I will do anything for you, my love. My power is your power, anything to see you smile."
The VN will be structured like a fairy tale/book. The narrator voice should be clear, engaging but not too energetic. Think BG3 narration.

There was an absence to the little wooden cottage that sat tucked deep in the woods. A subtle loneliness that found its way into the foundation and spreading through the walls. Even the creatures of the night dared not step too close.
It was time. Gently, Odella lowered her lover into the pool of murky water, a sharp anxiety beginning to rise with every bubble escaping Eloise's mouth. What if this was wrong. What if she died? Odella lost her grasp as an overwhelming dread rushed through her. Had she killed her lover? There was silence. A single red tear fell from her cheek. What had she done? Suddenly a blackened hand reached out and gripped Odella's throat, forcing her into the murky depths below. Before she could even process what had happened, Odella found a pair of soft lips touching her own.
The young man was a simple sort, a farmer or trader. Someone completely unremarkable. And yet when he was found torn from the inside out he became the most important person in the village, at least until the next body arrived down stream.
