My Hero Acadamia Abrdiged [Skullcrack Studios] Episode 1 and 2 casting call
Project Overview
Hello everyone! I'm ligh1d0rk, the director and editor of chivalry of a failed knight abridged, or failed knight abridged as it's better known. Over on the Skullcrack youtube channel. I'm going to be starting a new series seeing as we're on the tail end of the failed knight project, of course we're looking forward to new and bigger things and that means working on a passion project of mine, My hero Academia abridged.
For those who are interested but skeptical, this won't be like the other hundreds of my hero abridgeds that dont get off the ground, with one series already on going this makes a great starting point to do a long running abridged and garner a larger following. What makes it different from all the other my hero abridges being made? This abridged will be taking a more serious approach to the series following it more closely and taking serious care to leave what is important in the series and adding to it rather than detracting from it. Where other abridgeds may just use the medium to tell their own story or disregard the anime that it is to tell shitty one liners this series is hoping to have smarter jokes and well written characters, tapping into the emotional narrative told in the my hero story while also being a fun ride.
What is required:
I as a director give smaller updates over the 3 month period it takes to produce each episode. So you'll need to have some patience when it comes to maybe not hearing from me for a month.
Bare minimum an XLR microphone, we can work on audio set up if you have a quality mic and a good voice.
Discord is the primary means of contact I have with all my actors so have that.
Live direction is not mandatory but may be asked of you.
In each audition give three takes of each line. I want each one to have a different inflection. Feel free as well to link to your demo reels as I'll give those a listen as well.

Allmight in his smaller weaker form is a more serious person than his larger powered form. He's a father figure to deku and offers advice and tries to keep the kid safe. While he's powered up the hero adopts a strange speaking pattern and the viewer should almost get a feeling like they think of the two forms as seperate people (think marvels hulk and dr Banner but to a lesser extent) Though Smallmight will get a few quick jokes in and have some funny light hearted moments for the first season he's mostly used as a way of driving the plot and keeping events serious.
I'm looking for a middle low range, something that sounds like a higher adult male voice to contrast the deep adult male tone I have going for his taller form.

No, What you did was brave, foolish, but brave. You acted and tried to save someone when no hero, not even I, tried to do anything to help. We all waited for someone stronger, faster, better equipped to come along. But not you, you acted and tried to save someone, I can’t think a more heroic act in my entire life.[This should sound angry and almost threatening, you're trying to project this kid from a life that has gotten everyone you ever cared about killed and will eventually get you killed. Scare him from every trying to be a hero again.]
You see all those people down there? Just trying to live their life, maybe I can’t save them all. But if I stop just one crime because a super villain thinks ‘What is allmight shows up?’ So I risk my life, I go out there even though I’m dying, to keep people safe and make sure villains know I’m still kicking. So do I think you can be a hero?No.
You’re just a kid, someone with big dreams who’s going to get hurt, Someone who’s going to get in the way if heroes try and do their jobs. You’re not a hero, you’re a liability.
[softer and kinder than the other two, this is allmight just talking to deku about his quirk]
Well to be honest I never really had much trouble using one for all, I mostly just threw myself into it. I wish I could be more help but I might know someone who can give you some advice, he used to be a hero along side my mentor, the one who had one for all before me.
Ochaco is a well meaning and happy girl and obviously there isn’t much that is going to change for his in the abridged but I want to give her character a more snarky attitude in where she’s going to push people buttons and give some soft jabs to people over the course of the story.
When auditioning for Ochaco keep in mind she will need to have a cute soft demeanour but also have to have a sharp cunning wit when it comes to one liners. She will also have plenty of scenes where she need to be uplifting and cheerful, So try and show a healthy range of emotions during the audition.
I’m looking for a higher pitched female voice for this character.

[Bakugo] Your quirk is sweat? That explains the smell.
[Deku] God, it is adorable you think you stand a chance.
[EraserHead] I think I’ve seen crack addicts better with kids
[Endeavour] Flaming is a very apt word.
[I’m looking to see how you deliver just some of the normal lines she gives, Keep in mind her overly cute face and expression and try to convey her bubbly attitude]
That really angry kid in class called you Deku right? I thought your name was midoriya though, kinda a weird name either way but Deku sounds super cool, like a superhero!
[Here I’m looking to see a range of emotions, try and deliver this line three different ways and use emotion to change the meaning of sentence.]
I’m going to try my best, no matter what, for Deku, Iida and everyone else.
Iiada will be a driving force for the comedy as well as deliver a fair amount of exposition. His voice should should be a mid to low range young adult, keep in mind his larger size to the other characters makes him look older than them.
Iiada will have a few quirks to his personality that will be the source for the majority of his humour.
At various points in the sotry Iiada will stop mid sentance to deliver an invasive thought that pops into his head, basically even while in combat with someone he may stop to wonder if cutting a hole in a net makes more or less holes. Or during the explination of how a course is run he will openly wonder if dragons have hollow bones to be able to fly.
Another point of personality for him is how he hasa very earnest delivery to lines that are overdramatic, much in the show he wants to be proper but comes off as silly.
Things to keep in mind for an Iiada audition is I'm looking for the actors comedic timing when delivering lines as well as their ability to be earnest during the delivery of a overdramatic line.
[This is an example of a line where he is angry but half way through breaks that anger with an intrusive thought, keep in mind I’m looking to both see if you can do anger well, and your timing on the line]
My name is Tenya Iida, the brother of the hero you killed, my brother who had never hurt anyone and worked tirelessly to save people. - Wow humans are really just one big donut aren’t they? - I’m going to make it so you never hurt anyone ever again!
[This line is an example of delivering a line that is over dramatic and silly while taking it seriously and giving it honestly.]
Clearly there is something you saw that I did not, clearly you are a greater student than even I, the great Tenya of house Iida. I gladly give my life into your service, Teach me oh great bland one.
[Lastly I’m looking for a range of emotions on this line, Iida in various scenes has to be serious, silly, earnest or depressed. I want to see the range of emotions you have as an actor and see how you twist a simple sentence to fit the emotion you want]
Midoriya you’re my best friend but I cant keep relying on you, I need to stand on my own two feet.
Present mic should have a mid to high ranging adult male voice
Present mic might be my favorite idea I have for a character, In the sub he is a rock star while in the sub he is a radio announcer. So in the abridged he will actually change what kind of stage presence he has episode to episode or scene to scene. Basically every time he shows up he change from being a country singer to a elvis impersonator to a michael jackson wannabe
For these auditions I’ll give three basic lines with an emotion attached, your three takes instead will be trying to express that emotion with varied stage presences. Bonus points if you use 9 different ones over the course of the audition.
If you need help consider the following.
-Stand up comedian (seinfeld, krusty the clown, etc)
-Indie artist
-Elvis, michael jackson
-Wanna be rapper
-Dead beat rockstar
-Artsy british beatles-esk rocker

[Talking to the kids trying to get them excited for the entrance exam try and make this sound mildly threatening, like there is real danger to the students even though there really isn’t]
Alright now folks, listen up, you’ll all be separated by schools so no cheating now. This exam will be combat training about faux villains so feel free to let your powers fly and have some fun beating our bots to bolts!
[Announcing the fight between Ochaco and Bakugo during the sports festival try and get everyone hype, make this sound like it is the most exciting fight it possible could even though it is so one sided.]
In this corner the boy with a temper to match his quirk, the explosive king of murder and doom himself, Bakugo! And in this corner the sugary sweet child of sass, and my personal favorite student, Ochaco!
[Angry and almost disappointed in the students, this is during the student/teacher fights]
You kids need to learn some respect, always goofing off in my class, I may not be allmight or eraser head but I’m a pro hero too, and I got the pipes to break anyone who thinks they can even get close to me!
Eraserhead has a low to mid adult male voice range.
His character is mostly unchanged from the anime and manga but in this one I’m thinking of giving him a more tragic backstory to keep in line with the batman motif he has going on.
Essentially I’m looking for someone who can do the terrifying threatening voice of someone who doesn’t like people, while also someone who can do the “I’ll break your bones if you try and hurt my kids.” kind of personality. For those of you who like eraserhead, just be eraserhead.

What happens when you break all the bones in your body, when you’re left a cripples husk unable to help anyone? Your teammates have to put themselves at risk to keep you safe. You’re a liability not a hero, and I’ll see you expelled before the day is done.
[Talking about his students to another teacher]
You think anything I did made these kids the way they are? It wasn’t training, or skill that did this. They stared down that evil heroes deal with everyday and stood up to it. They knew they could die but still dove in head first to protect their friends. The difference is you see them as kids but I see them as heroes.
[To the villains when they break into the USJ]
You’ve all made choices in your lives that lead you here, choices you all made with the best intentions. Now I offer you a new choice, one I don’t want you to make lightly, Your first choice is simple, leave here the way you came in, I haven’t seen your faces or care who you are. No one has to be hurt today. The second choice is my personal favorite, you still leave, but the coroner has to assemble you afterwards. So choose wisely.
Tsuya has a low to mid female range
In the anime tsuya has a matter of fact way of speaking that contrasts with her very caring and deeply emotional character. I want to keep both of those things in mind when writing her character. Tsuya’s voice should have a lower tone and sound more throaty or nasally, trying to give a frog like inflection.
Tsuya’s humour will come from jokes about eating frog legs or pork (miss piggy) and joking about the variety of cartoon frogs and lizards that exist.

I found mineta nearly drowning, and you’re wearing a wool shirt, so my chances of escaping are pretty good but your chances are slim to none.
One of those guys looks like a shark had a baby with that thing from shape of water, it looks like it wasn’t pleasant either, like it was ugly makeup sex. There was something seriously wrong with the relationship but they were just trying way too hard to make it work.

I thought telling them was the right thing to do, I didn’t want you to get hurt and you’re my friends. I’m just so sorry, I just want us to be happy and together and still be able to laugh and smile together.
