Musings of The Classic Sherlock Holmes Actor
Project Overview
I make a little audio web series entitled "Musings of The Classic Sherlock Holmes Actor" which goes on both the website No Place Like Holmes (www.nplh.co.uk) and YouTube. In them I narrate the written musings of classic Sherlock Holmes actors including Jeremy Brett, Basil Rathbone, and Douglas Wilmer. We cover such ground as what they thought of their films/shows, Sherlock Holmes, acting, and much much more. All readings are sourced from written interviews or autobiographical entries. I am going to be enhancing some of the new entries coming up by adding some other actors to read quotes of other actors mentioned in passage. They are typically no more than a line or two for the most part.
Actors will have their links/sites plugged in the video and on the NPLH website as well as getting a glowing recommendation on CCC from myself.
What you submit in your audition would potentially be the final piece used if done well enough - so please give it your all! Please include what you want to be credited as if chosen with your entry.
Thank you for taking the time!

I had never thought of Watson as the perennial brainless bungler who provided burlesque relief in the earlier portrayals. He is a normal man, solid on his feet, a medical student who gives valuable advice.... In other words, he is a perfect foil to Holmes' youthful buoyancy.
It's important for them to see your face at this point. Tony's not cross-cutting close ups. They should know what I look like by now. This shot should favour you.
"P.S.......Where's the waterfall?" (curious)
"Appaling behaviour" (regretful)

"He used to suffer bouts of manic depression that began to effect hs performance. Jeremy used to quote a line from Twelfth Night and, as the run went on, it got longer and longer and finally he was doing the whole opening speech. Duncan Weldon, one of the producers, came in one night and said......."

This is said in response to a request from her fellow actor, Basil Rathbone. Greta Garbo was a Swedish-American actress. She was known for her melancholic, somber persona due to her many film portrayals of tragic characters and for her subtle and understated performances. Does not need to be a pitch perfect match, just looking for something in the same ballpark as her.
"...I never give pictures" (Flat, cold, robotic, dismissive, uninterested)
A producer on the phone to Douglas Wilmer. Wilmer expresses concern about the lack of quality of a script, followed by saying that he would not turn up.
"...yes, we had been a little worried about that one..." (Sheepish)
"But!!! We start rehearasing next week!!!" (panicked)
Born 1886, she was Diminutive red-headed actress, playwright and screenwriter. Her marriage to Basil Rathbone was one of the most enduring in show business, lasting from 1926 until his death in 1967. 2 lines. US accent. Set in 1940s. To be spoken as an admonishment, but loving all the same.
"Darling, please don't"
"I want to read it myself. You are spoiling it for me."
