Mr. Slotter: An Animated Short from Third Year Sheridan Students

Mr. Slotter: An Animated Short from Third Year Sheridan Students

Project Overview

This project is for a student-animated short film from Sheridan College. (And as such, we would prefer voice actors that are able to come to the campus especially for Mr. Slotter. Minor/background roles are alright so long as your microphone is clear.)

This story is about a hitman who manages to get a hit list of a group of preschool children. He originally is fairly cocky and believes he can get the job done fairly easily, but is foiled again and again with their spontaneous and kind nature. Eventually he finds he is faced with the struggle of being professional versus having his cold heart warm up to them.

The film will probably be anywhere between 5-8 minutes long. It is going to be made with 2D (hand-drawn) animation. We need actors ASAP, as our leica reel will have to be completed soon. Dialogue may change as the film develops and the story is refined, but we hope to complete the film by April (aka the end of second semester).

Latest Updates

  • Casting is complete

We've now cast all our auditions! The people the role was awarded to will get an email in the next little bit to join our voice actor discord so that we can easily communicate with them. The children roles will be a bit different, as we have cast a few people for those but casting call only allows us to cast one role for it, so we will be sending emails to notify those people. Thank you all for trying out, and you guys did a really wonderful job and we had a hard time choosing between you all! We may also post links to our fellow classmate's audition sites if should they decide to post their casting calls on this site as well if you would like to give theirs a shot!
  • Urgent - Callbacks

If you are interested being a voice actor for this project please check your private messages! We have sent out messages to some auditioners here and so far have not gotten any responses! We urge you to please send us a message back or an email so that we know you're still interested in the role! Our deadline is coming up soon and we will be choosing people, and we cannot pick anyone that doesn't communicate with us. Please email us at [email protected] if you have received a message from us!
  • Deadline bump and callbacks

Hey guys! We're bumping the deadline again. So far we don't have a finished script and our story is still being reworked but we hope to have it finished within the week. Therefore, more time will be allotted to get back to us! We have sent out some callbacks to the main roles to tweak a few voices before we make the final decision, so please make sure that you check out your messages for any information. We have not yet sent any callbacks for the children, as we are still sorting through them - you guys sent a lot of really nice ones for us to choose from! We will get back to you about the voices we like for those as soon as we are able! We also want to thank everyone for auditioning, it has been lovely to see such a good response from all the talented voice actors out there and it pains us to have to only choose one for the role. If you have received a callback and would like to contact us further (for any questions you have, clarifications, etc.), please email us at [email protected] so that we can have a faster correspondence.
  • Deadline Push!

Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that we're pushing the deadline a little further because our leica isn't due until quite later. We may message a few of you next week to see if you can alter the voice a little closer to what we would like for the film! Stay tuned.

Our character Mr. Slotter is our main role and requires someone that sounds stoic, calm and professional. He goes through a few emotions but generally has a voice that stays at a similar tone of expression. The story requires him to get a little bit emotional near the end, so we need someone who can play that fairly seriously, too.

Mr. Slotter is a hitman who is tasked to kill a bunch of children. He thinks it will be an easy job, so he's smug and confident about his skills, but is ultimately foiled by them because their nature is so unpredictable to him. He warms up to them a little, and he gets frustrated with his own unprofessional-ism as well. A general deep, to mid-range voice is required. Nothing too crazy, but someone that sounds cool and calculated, but also definitely sounds like he could be in his 40s.

  • "It’s nothing personal. Just business." - In a cold, stoic, even threatening manner.

  • "Let's play hide and seek, children. Run and hide and I'll find you." -  Cool and calm. Threatening and slightly intense sounding after the last pause.

  • “Its just business.” - choking up, but trying to keep it together

Role assigned to: jennathehutt

The principal or teacher role for this film is a cheerful character, as she works in a place filled with children. She does not suspect the main character being a hitman and assumes he is a regular substitute teacher. As such, she is very warm and friendly towards him.

  • "The kids just adore you! Have you ever considered teaching full time?"

  • "Alright class, this is your new substitute teacher for the day, Mr. Slotter!"

Bob is a teacher who never ends up teaching. He is only part of the end of the story and only has a few lines of dialogue. He needs to sound as much like a substitute teacher as possible. He can be quirky, a square, happy-go-lucky, anything as long as it sounds like he belongs in a classroom with children.

  • "Did you get any of my mail recently? I was supposed to get a letter from my new teaching job."

These children are preschool children. They're prone to being spontaneous and excited, but still very sweet and lovable. They are enamoured with their new substitute and like to have fun playing with him, giving him lots of attention. If you would like to ad lib some lines for them, feel free. There are a lot of scenes where they will be talking over each other in the background. There are about 15 children but only 5 main ones, so try as many different voices for them as you'd like.

  • "We love you mister Slotter!"

  • "Look at me! I'm Mr. Slotter!" - excited, playful, maybe trying to imitate him

  • "Sorry we fell asleep Mr. Slotter..." - nervous, sleepy, shy
