🎙️ Voice Actor Casting Guide – Ayato Sasaki (Shinigami)

Codename: Shinigami Apparent Age: Late 20s Origin: Native Japanese speaker; fluent in English, currently living in America Accent: Subtle Japanese-English accent—natural, not stylized or exaggerated Voice Depth: Medium—smooth, clear, composed Tone: Calm, deliberate, emotionally restrained but deeply sincere Speech Style: Formal with softened edges over time; speaks with intention, never wasteful

Character Essence

Ayato is a reaper and disciplined soul-guide. Japanese by birth and raised with a profound sense of duty due to his family’s wealth and expectations which eventually lead to his subsequent suicide and reaper status. He now resides in America, speaking fluent English with a light but noticeable accent. Ayato is reserved, precise, and quietly powerful—haunted by past mistakes and determined to do right by the dead he now shepherds. He rarely raises his voice, but when he does, it’s with devastating impact.

He speaks like a man constantly restraining the tide—of grief, guilt, and longing.

Voice Qualities to Capture
  • Subtle Japanese-English Accent: Should sound like someone who has spoken English for years with fluency, but still retains clear markers of native Japanese pronunciation. Refined, gentle—not cartoonish or heavily stylized.

  • Disciplined and Elegant: Ayato speaks formally, almost like a monk or samurai (not to be stereotypical) —but softens over time. His words are chosen carefully, and there's always purpose in them.

  • Emotion Under Control: His vocal tone must carry weight without theatrics. Even when afraid, angry, or aching, he holds it back until he can’t—and then it shatters beautifully.

  • Protective and Kind: When he speaks to Julia or the dead, there's an undercurrent of deep understanding. His voice becomes a safe place.

Voice Inspirations
  • Ken Watanabe – reserved, deep, powerful when necessary

  • Hiroyuki Sanada (English-speaking roles) – measured, respectful, and always composed

  • Masashi Odate (The Outsider) – subtle accent, emotionally layered

  • Sesshomaru (Inuyasha, Japanese tone in English context) – for Ayato’s sense of controlled nobility

Sample Audition Lines
  1. (To attacking spirits) Find rest–and be at peace.

  2. (To Bluebird, a handler assigning him to take care of a ghoul -Ian) Reapers deal with souls, not things lacking them

  3. (To Bluebird, trying to get his point across in a way that will be respected - it won’t) For the future, The Gates of Passing are not to be abused by the ACPI to jump from one location to the next. It takes a toil, even on me.

🎙️ Bilingual Audition Lines for Ayato Sasaki

1. Soul Rite / Guiding the Dead (ritualistic, solemn) - forgive me if these are inaccurate I used a translator.

2. Mourning the Dead (quiet grief, respectful)

Japanese: 「安らかに眠れ。私の手で、あなたは無事に渡れる。」 Yasuraka ni nemure. Watashi no te de, anata wa buji ni watare ru.

English (low, reverent): “Rest now. My hands will carry you safely.”

3. Protective / Threatening (to Ian or a threat)

Ian Carlisle - Mortician's Assistant
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 20 USD
Role assigned to: GAMEJAE

Ian Carlisle: A reckless modern day Chicago criminal turned ghoul after a fatal gamble with a demon left him cursed, Ian is now consumed by an insatiable hunger for human flesh. Bound to Julia, whose presence tempers his darker urges due to the bullet she possesses, Ian fights to maintain control over his violent instincts while clinging to the remnants of his humanity. Charismatic yet dangerous, Ian is haunted by fragmented memories of his past, struggling to balance his predatory nature with the complex emotions he feels for Julia. His charm is a double-edged sword, masking the constant battle between man and monster.

Age: Late 20s - Early 30s

Accent:
Chicago South Side, Irish-American influence
Natural, gritty, but not caricatured. His words carry that working-class rhythm, sometimes sliding into something almost lyrical when emotional—but mostly it’s all sarcasm, bite, and blunt delivery. Think “beer, bruises, and poetry he doesn’t admit to writing.”

Personality in the Voice:

Charismatic menace. He draws you in with charm and snark, but there’s always a sharp edge.

Emotionally volatile. His moods can turn on a dime—flirty to furious, sarcastic to shattered.

Deep attachment issues, masked by bravado. When he cares, he doesn’t say it sweet. He says it like a threat—because it is.

Protective and territorial, especially over Julia. His voice when he says her name should always carry weight—whether teasing or trembling.

Flirty, filthy, funny. He says obscene things like they’re compliments and somehow makes it work.

Vocal Register:

  • Baritone-adjacent, but not full bass. His voice lives in a gritty mid-range, capable of dropping low but with more sharpness than depth.

  • There's always a manic glint riding just under the surface—like he might laugh or snap, and you won’t know which until it’s too late.

Vocal Texture:

  • Textured, not smooth. There's a raspy sandpaper edge to everything he says, like his voice has been dragged through the emotional gutter a few times.

  • His consonants can get clipped, spit through teeth, especially when he’s pissed or panicking.

  • There’s also a streetwise rhythm to how he talks—fast, reactive, with occasional deadpan pauses that hit harder than shouting ever could.

Tonal Qualities to Highlight in Auditions:

MoodTone/DeliveryTeasingFast-talking, sarcastic, smug with a grin—laughing at you, not with you.ThreateningRazor-edged, quieter than expected. Not booming—controlled and dangerous.UnhingedBreathless, uneven, laughing too hard, or whispering when he shouldn't.AffectionateLow and reverent, almost like it hurts to say nice things. Still a little rough—he doesn't get soft easily.Worshipful / HornyFilthy-sweet. Like growling a prayer. Controlled when he's teasing, breathy and wrecked when he’s losing control.

Comparable Vibe (not necessarily voice-match):

Robert Sheehan as Klaus (Umbrella Academy) – for that manic, teasing, emotionally-damaged charm.

Joe Gilgun (Preacher / This Is England) – raspy, fast-talking, angry one second, heartbreakingly real the next.

Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) – again, not because of vocal depth, but that emotional charge + Chicago cadence.

Matthew Lillard at 20% intensity – the manic tilt, not the cartoon.

Dr. Edwin Danvers - Mortician's Assistant
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 20 USD
Role assigned to: DavidCookBlackLIon

Character: Edwin Danvers
Age Range: Late 30s
Accent: Neutral American (Southern Arkansas/Delta preferred)
Tone: Calm, grounded, intelligent
Voice Depth: Medium-low, steady—not gruff but warm with authority
Speech Style: Measured, thoughtful, occasionally intense
Delivery Keywords: Rational, protective, skeptical, emotionally restrained, sincere

Overview

Edwin Danvers is a doctor and deputy coroner in Allsbury, Arkansas—a rational, methodical man with a deep well of emotion beneath his composed surface. He’s the quiet protector, the one who watches from the edges, measures twice before speaking, and speaks with conviction when he does. His connection to Julia is brotherly at its core, his relationship with her late father lending to his need to watch over her. He is not prone to outbursts but can become firm when boundaries are crossed—particularly when it comes to Ian.

Voice Qualities to Consider
  • Measured & Grounded: Edwin thinks before he speaks. His voice should reflect someone who’s used to being calm under pressure—think seasoned professional who’s seen enough death to no longer be shocked by it.

  • Protective Warmth: While not emotionally gushy, there should be a richness and warmth when addressing Julia, especially in moments of comfort or care.

  • Tension-Capable: Needs to carry a sharp edge when confronting Ian or standing up for Julia. Should be able to shift into a colder, clinical register without sounding overdramatic.

  • Emotional Depth Without Melodrama: The actor should be able to communicate internal struggle and heartbreak (like his divorce, his brother’s death, or his guilt over Julia’s situation) without leaning too sentimental. Think quiet pain, tight voice, but never breaking.

Reference Voices
  • Mahershala Ali (as Wayne Hays in True Detective Season 3): Soft-spoken, deeply intelligent, with an emotional weight that hangs behind every line.

  • Lance Reddick: Calm, authoritarian, intelligent—perfect for when Edwin is trying to hold the line between logic and a world gone off the rails.

  • Chiwetel Ejiofor: Especially in roles where he plays the noble skeptic or intellectual, with restrained emotional delivery.

  • I’m here for you, Julia. You’re not alone in Allsbury. You and your family matter to a lot of people here.

  • Another ambulance arrived, I got to get off here, but before I go I just wanted to say–that your Dad would be proud of you, Julia.

  • Train derailed from the Cottonwood Creek Bridge. They think it was caused by an explosive device on board or something. A lot of casualties.

The Man in the Black Hat (Ashmedai) - Mortician's Assistant
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 20 USD
Role assigned to: Jesse Hill

Alias: The Man in the Black Hat
True Identity: Ashmedai, a powerful demon, son of Asmodeus and Lilith
Role: Antagonist / Temptation Figure / Manipulator
Apparent Age: Late 40s–60s
Accent: Neutral American
Tone: Smooth, ageless, eerie charisma
Voice Depth: Low to medium-low, silky—like honey laced with venom
Speech Style: Slow, deliberate, layered with hidden threat
Delivery Keywords: Seductive, calculating, otherworldly, commanding, theatrical (he's a little sassy).

Character Overview

Ashmedai, known as the Man in the Black Hat, is not just a villain—he is the deal-maker, game-master, and demonic puppeteer who set Ian’s downfall into motion. He is elegant and ancient, always poised, with a voice that promises and damns in the same breath. His charm is unnerving because it’s measured—he does not need to shout to dominate. This is a being who could talk you into selling your soul with a smile.

Voice Qualities to Capture
  • Timeless & Eloquent: Ashmedai should sound old—but not aged. His voice should carry centuries of wisdom and wickedness. Think gentleman devil.

  • Eerie Calm: Never rushed. His tempo is unhurried, his confidence supreme. Even when threatened, he doesn't break. He lets others break themselves.

  • Tempting & Terrifying: At times, he is almost soothing—like a lullaby before the knife. The best performances will balance alluring gentleness with sharp, hidden menace.

  • Slight Theatricality: His speech is precise, sometimes poetic. He likes words, using them as weapons and tools of seduction.

Inspiration Voices
  • James Spader as Raymond Reddington (The Blacklist): For that mix of poetic calm, threat, and silk.

  • Tony Todd (Candyman): Rich, haunting, intimate delivery that crawls into your bones.

  • Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon (The Mandalorian): Controlled menace with gravitas.

Paid: Flat Rate 20 USD
Role assigned to: Quinn Briar

🎙️ Voice Actor Casting Guide – Bluebird (ACPI Dispatcher)

Real Name: [Not specified—uses callsign “Bluebird”] Role: High-level supernatural dispatcher & intelligence tactician for the ACPI Age Range (Voice): Late 30s – Early 40s Accent: Neutral American, Chinese-American (Optional soft SoCal/Bay Area) Tone: Calm, sharp, and dry—too tired for nonsense, but still very much in control Vocal Depth: Medium; flexible enough to sound commanding or casual depending on the scene Delivery Keywords: Pragmatic, composed, intelligent, sarcastic, low-key warm when needed

Personality & Voice Essence

Bluebird is a strategic powerhouse—more tech-ops commander than field agent, but she’s not passive. She’s the person you call when things go sideways, and she’s already two steps ahead. Though calm and professional, her voice drips with dry sarcasm when people push her patience. Think “has dealt with too many idiots in her career, and now just wants results.”

Even when the stakes are high, she doesn’t panic—she directs. Even when someone’s being difficult (Ayato), she maintains poise—maybe flippantly. Even when she’s joking, there’s weight behind the words.

Voice Qualities to Capture
  • Matter-of-Fact Cool: Speaks like someone who knows more than everyone else and doesn’t need to prove it. Think mature, exhausted brilliance.

  • Dry Humor: Her sarcasm isn’t performative—it’s clipped, under her breath, and devastatingly accurate.

  • Unflappable: Whether she’s dealing with a Class C ghoul or an uncooperative reaper, her voice doesn’t waver.

  • Gentle Authority: She doesn’t yell. She doesn’t lecture. But people still listen.

Voice Inspirations
  • Sandra Oh – composed, warm undertone, effortlessly dry and cutting when needed

  • Carrie-Anne Moss (esp. in Jessica Jones) – elegant, professional, iron underneath velvet

  • Lucy Liu – particularly in modern roles where her characters are both sharp and emotionally layered
