The Moonstone Saga: The Emerald Circlet is a science fiction fantasy novel I have written and am seeking to adapt into an audiobook as a personal project.
OVERVIEW:
This is a personal project that will help me realize this novel that has been a lifelong dream of mine and my magnum opus for the past several years. It will be in audiobook form, where each of the characters will likely have primarily short lines with only a few real monologues, so their roles will be relatively light on the workload. The narrators will take the brunt of the work, and I am more than willing to take this role upon myself, but I do currently have it divided into three parts in order to lighten the load. I hope that you can consider auditioning, as I believe this can be a fun opportunity to practice some low-stakes voice acting and make some friends!
SYNOPSIS:
The Moonstone Saga: The Emerald Circlet is a 117,000-word Science-Fiction/Fantasy novel that follows six young adults from unique walks of life. The setting is thousands of years in the future, and humanity as we know it has gone extinct and been replaced by warring species that have either evolved or been modified from the “Aliksar''. A human fresh out of cryosleep, a strawberry farmer who is more bird than man, A disgraced soldier, a long-lost princess equipped with venomous fangs, A prince turned smuggler, and a blind scientist are pulled together by fate. Together, they escape from a galactic prison and go on the run, ending up on Manticore, the Manti homeplanet, where they learn of Graey’s title. The Nagalair, who have fought with the Manti for centuries, attack Manticore, leading to the death of the Great Mother, Graey’s mom. She crowns Jaenelle, who is secretly the Nagalain heir, the next Great Mother because of Graey’s affection for her. Jaenelle then boards the armada and, after the death of her elderly grandfather, is crowned Grand Admiral of the Nagalair before choosing to run with the rest of the crew to the galaxy's edge. This story follows themes of self-actualization and coming-of-age as Graey and Jaenelle go from irresponsible teenagers on a prison ship to galactic figureheads drowning in power and responsibility as they and the rest of the crew mature and learn that if you are to survive in this galaxy, it’s kill or be killed.

Auditioning Instructions:
Your audio quality does not need to be perfect, but limited grain and background noise would be greatly appreciated so that you won't sound strange when compared to the other actors, so unfortunately this will be taken into consideration when selecting from auditions. In your audition, you may submit as many takes of each line as you'd like, but preferably 2-5 takes to each line, please. Either in AABBCC format or ABCABC format, whichever you prefer.
Many characters speak other languages and have accents. For almost every character, these are optional. If a character speaks in another language, it will never be more than a line or two and, because this isn't professional, your best attempt is welcome. They won't be a required part of the audition process, but a line in their language will be included in their description to be said optionally. Please don't be insulting to another culture, stereotypes and over-exaggerations could be very offensive in certain accents. Please do not limit your auditions because of an accent or language, they are not necessary and all but one character could sound like an American!
There is no sexually explicit dialogue in this series, as it is a YA novel, but there are a few adult topics such as child abuse, SA, and violence. None of which are explicitly said and very seldom appear in this particular book, but it would still be preferable to keep leads 18+ and other roles 15+, but that is just my recommendation.

Recording Process
All recordings are done asynchronously. I provide directional notes on the script and am open to any questions our actors may have. If necessary, we will only request a retape for a line and will try to provide the scene partner’s recordings whenever possible.

Hello everyone! First off, thank you all so much! I never expected to receive this much interest in this project, much less 90 submissions (as of 5/12)! Everyone is so talented and I cannot tell you how difficult a decision we're going to have to make.
On the 17th of may all auditions for Act 1 characters will be complete. Unfortunately, I greatly underestimated the number of characters I will need in the future so for now I'm just casting (for sure) Act 1 (which will be all of the Narrators, Ara, Rhun, Cartr, Jaenelle, Graey, Desree, Juniper, and the Xathosian guards). Some other roles may be assigned too if I thought the audition was amazing, but future projects will be created for Act 2 and Act 3 roles. All auditions for these roles will carry over to those projects, do not worry.
In summary, if you are interested in narrator or lead roles, hurry to submit your final auditions! And if you do not receive one of these roles, I encourage you to audition for one of the other roles in act 2 or act 3 or stay tuned for their own projects to be released.

Ara is the main character of The Moonstone Saga. She grew up in New York during the year 3000 after a worldwide plague stopped human progress beyond the 2010s. Growing up as the sole caretaker for herself and her brother after her father's death and her mother's contraction of the plague, Ara grew up in poverty. After graduating college on a full ride, she signed up for the Cryodiscovery program, which sent her out into space while cryogenically frozen as a last-ditch attempt to make first contact in exchange for large payments made to her relatives. Ara stays frozen for millions of years, and the galaxy as she knew it is gone, and humanity has changed...

(Context for line 2 - Ara ran away from Rhun on a space station and was almost taken captive by a gang. Rhun quickly dispatched them, leaving Ara afraid and in disbelief.) “You killed them all. (Break) You killed them all and you’re not even hurt! (Break) They were armed and there’s not even a scratch on you! (Break) What do you want with me?”
(Context for line 3 - Rhun and Ara are at a Manti party and joking around. Ara should sound playful and comfortable.) “I’ve never had champagne before. (Break) I hadn’t reached the legal drinking age yet when I left Earth. (break) Well you can also drink acid *Scoff* (Break) I don’t see why not. Unless it’s like bug champagne or something.”
Graey is a primary character in The Moonstone Saga. He is the exiled prince of the Manti, a praying-mantis based species whose real-life racial counterpart is indian. Graey was exiled at 16 for manslaughter of another noble boy and became a smuggler around the galaxy for several years. He was seeking the long-lost Nagalaian princess in order to bring her home and feel like he had redeemed himself.

Graey is outwardly very confident and prince-charmingly, but deep down he's very sad. He has sudden mood shifts that are easily detectable in his voice.
OPTIONAL Hindi line: (Context - Graey is being confronted by his cousins, his tone is hostile. Intended translation: What are you doing here?) "आप क्या चाहते हैं?" ("aap kya chaahate hain?")
(Context for line 1 - Graey and Jaenelle are teasing and flirting eachother. He was known as very attractive among non-noble Manti women.) “Nah, not among the upper crust. The Great Mother isn’t really meant to have children, makes me a bit of a social outcast. (Break) I will say that I am quite popular with some of the lower class,”
(Context for line 2 - Graey's mother is dying in his arms. He is actively upset and crying.) “Yes, yes, of course, Mother. (Break) You- You can’t… (Break) I… love you too."
(Context for line 3 - Graey is sitting on Jaenelle's bed. They're talking about his father, who disappeared when he was young. Graey sounds dull and depressed.) "Well, I think that the most dangerous thing on Manticore for both you and me would be my mother. (Break) Yes, she is very… much. (Break) He… Disappeared when I was little. (Break) Yeah, that's not even the worst of it. (Break) No, it’s okay. Everyone I’ve ever met, even my family, thought my mother… ate my father."
Rhun is a main character in The Moonstone Saga. He is a species known as a Yerterian, a tall warrior-like elven species. He grew up in an affluent noble family filled with unfortunate family drama. He was a soldier in the Yerterian army and was taken captive by their enemies, the Xathosians. The Yerterian's real-life ethnic counterpart is German and Rhun could have a german accent and has a few german lines (see auditioning instructions for more information)

Rhun is stern and militaristic but can struggle in certain social situations. He is manly and blunt, but does not speak without purpose.

OPTIONAL German line: (Context - Rhun is calming Ichika down during the climax. He is meant to be light-hearted but still confident in their security. Intended translation: you can tell her yourself, I'll introduce you) "Du kannst es ihr selbst sagen, ich stelle dich vor."
As a quirk, Rhun NEVER says contractions.
(Context for line 1 - Rhun is ordering the crew around to prepare to board the Nagalaian flagship. Ichika is teasing him for removing Ara from the boarding party. Rhun is calm and unbothered.) "Ara? Will you go get some bandages and things set out? We might need them when we return. (Break)I am not sure what you mean. (Break) We will disembark in a diamond formation. Jaenelle will be in front, I will be on the left, Graey will be on the right, and Cartr will take up the rear."
(Context for line 2 - Cartr is trying to convince Rhun to save others from the prison ship, but he doesn't want to. He is described as speaking sternly and the the last segment is in a "harsh growl") “The more people we have, the more likely it is that we will be caught, (Break) It’s not worth our time.”
(Context for line 3 - The crew is set to travel to the faraway planet Zeta, but Rhun tells Ara in private that she may be able to find more information on Manticore instead... He remains stern, even, and methodical in his speech.) “On Zeta, there will not be anyone else. It will not be beneficial for accustomizing you to this new galaxy, and there will definitely not be any information about what happened to your people. (Break) Manticore, however… There may be information there. (Break) If the distress signal were to go off, it would alert some of the people after us. The Xathosians, Evrim Jerdonii, the Yerterian, they would all be able to find us before we would make it to Zeta. The best decision at that point would be to go to Manticore, where the presence of Manti law would prevent Jerdonii and the Yerterian from tracking us down and where the Xathosians will not wish to disturb, given their alliance with the Nagalair. (Break) It could be set off in the cockpit, it is a large red button by the pilot’s chair. It will set off an alarm on the ship, and I would be the first to arrive.”
Jaenelle is a primary character in the Moonstone Saga. She is the long-lost princess of the Nagalair, a snake-like species whose real-life ethnic counterpart is Arabian. She grew up on a distant lawless farming planet and was very sheltered, so she is excited to seek out adventure after finally being free from her father's control after being falsely arrested for attempting to steal the planet's water supply.

Jaenelle is hot-headed and abrasive and still acts like a teenager. She feels awkward around adults but usually stands up for herself.

(Context for line 2 - Jaenelle and Desree are gossiping about the events of the day, namely Graey and Jaenelle's budding relationship and Rhun's attitude. Jaenelle is happy and gossiping, could go a little valley girl.) “So… Just us I guess. (Break) What?! No!... I guess. (Break) Yeah. (Break) Don’t tell Ara, but he threatened to torture Ichika with a bottle of Liquid Hell he found in the kitchen,”
(Context for line 3 - Graey's cousins have just struck a nerve in Jaenelle, and she's run off to the garden and is spilling her emotions to Graey. She is described as sobbing and the line starts with a nice, snake-like hiss.) “*Hiss* When I went off to college… There were so many pretty people there. I just wasn’t good enough. I didn’t know how to do my hair, how to apply makeup, what styles were trending. For Derga’s sake I had just gotten my first TIWP when I moved off. (Break) I never had a boyfriend! My roommate had one, the girls in my classes all got them! (Break) All I got was some creep who tried to stab me in a storage closet!”
Cartr is a primary character in The Moonstone Saga. He is a species known as an Aviark, which are colorful birds with a real-life racial equivalent of Native Americans. Cartr grew up as one of many sons on a lawless farming planet, where he was very good friends with Jaenelle until the two were arrested for supposedly sabotaging the planet's water supply.

Cartr is large and practically built from working on the family farm. He seems manly, but remains a coward at heart due to living a somewhat sheltered life.

Desree is a primary character in The Moonstone Saga. She is a archaologist and a Hehirark, a strange, pale species known for their ridiculous intelligence and lack of politeness. Desree was kidnapped by the Xathosians to study Ara while she was still frozen in her Cryopod. Desree wears a blindfold, but is not blind...

Desree dislikes people and is consistently sarcastic and rude. Deep down, she wants friends but was never taught how to socialize.
Desree speaks Greek and Latin, but she does not have any full non-English lines.
(Context for line 1 - Desree is trying to get a medication to clear the pollution of her homeworld from her system, but the doctor she is speaking to doesn't know what she's talking about. She is quite angry and frustrated.) “No! These are too strong for me! If I took them, I would be too cleansed. That would compromise my immune system and make me more susceptible to Manti diseases, which I am already more susceptible to because I’m a Hehirark.”
(Context for line 2 - Ara experienced a concussion during takeoff, and Desree is guiding her to the medbay. The first line is intended to be very sarcastic.) "Anyway, we are now on the first floor! What an exciting adventure! (Break) There are some pills for that on the counter in the medbay, I meant to give them to you."
(Context for line 3 - After cheating in a casino and winning a large ship, Desree and Cartr arrive while being chased. She doesn't take the situation seriously and decides to mess with Cartr.) "I thought you had the keys! (Break) It was funny. (Break) Juniper? (Break) That wasn’t wha–... Nevermind. The others will be here soon, start up the ship."
Juniper is a Minor Character in The Moonstone Sage: The Emerald Circlet. She is a small android originally serving as a seeing-eye droid for Desree before being plugged into the ship to serve as its AI. Juniper is a true AI with feelings and thoughts, which makes her illegal according to the High Council.

Juniper is described as constantly sounding "chipper" and upbeat.
(Context for line 1 - Juniper is listing off the life forms on the ship. Her tone is robotic, but still "chipper") "There are currently seven lifeforms aboard the PSS Juniper. One in the kitchen, by the coffee machine, presumably Ara. Two in the elevator going up to the third floor, Cartr and Desree most likely. Then there are the four remaining life forms in the food storage bay."
(Context for line 2 - Juniper begins to show some personality while she gossips with Graey while he's in the elevator. She is described as chirping.) "Yes, Rhun is currently in the security hub. But… (Break) I shouldn’t say. I’m not supposed to gossip, (Break) Really?! (Break) He's too busy watching Ara! (Break) Yes!"
Ichika is a minor character in The Moonstone Saga: The Emerald Circlet. She is an assassin and a Notokoko, a fish-based species whose real-world ethnic equivalent is Japanese. Ichika snuck on board as a stowaway because she had gotten a job to assassinate Jaenelle, but was captured and remained as a prisoner on the ship for the rest of the book.

Ichika, once captured, is very chill and laid-back. She makes funny sarcastic comments and enjoys her time to relax.
OPTIONAL German Line: (Context - Rhun has attempted to calm Ichika down, and they're trying to joke around to relieve the tension. Intended Translation: Will you put a good word in with your Aunt for me?) "Wirst du bei deiner Tante ein gutes Wort für mich einlegen?"
(Context for line 1 - Ichika is discussing the crew with Juniper and has some new information on Rhun. It's all very casual.) "Yeah, I’ve heard of the Kektarr line a lot, especially when I was little. There was some drama with them when I was a girl. One of them married a royal, or cheated on one, or killed one. Something like that."
(Context for line 2 - The Nagalaian armada is descending upon Manticore, and Ichika is freaking out and panicked.) "You have to let me out of here! (Break) Nagalair. Let me out, please. You have to let me out! I can’t die here!”
Aerilia is Graey's mother and the Great Mother (Queen) of the Manti. She was crowned quite young, right after Graey was born and remains somewhat ditzy and immature at heart. Nevertheless, she outwardly maintains an attitude of maternal maturity and has done her best to be respected and loved as Great Mother. Graey is her only child and they used to be very close, but after he committed accidental manslaughter she was forced to banish him from the planet and they haven't spoken since he was 16. She misses him dearly.

Aerilia should sound mature, but she also has the same sudden shifts in mood her son does.
(Context for Line 1 - Aerilia has to wear an emerald circlet for her role as Great Mother, sometimes she regrets her seat of power. She is chatting happily with Jaenelle, then sounds a little sad or wistful for the last line.) “I never much cared for emeralds on myself personally, always thought they were too similar to my skin tone, (Break) Quite ironic really…”
(Context for Line 2 - Aerilia is being confronted by her sister, Aarna. She is angry, but dignified.) "“Cowering? (Break) Oh, I wasn’t aware we were cowering in our half of the galaxy. (Break) It’s a free half of the galaxy, unlike the half governed by your snake friends, Traitor,”
(Context for Line 3 - Aerilia and Graey are having a-somewhat tense-reunion.) “Well, I had hoped that you would put use to your engineering skills and settle down as a mechanic. There’s decent money in ship repair, especially on the outer planets. And… who knows, maybe you could’ve met a girl. Started a family. Most Manti your age have at least one child.”
The Xathosians are tank-grown supersoldiers originally created by the Yerterians before revolting and becoming a galactic superpower famous for their galactic prison. Because of their toxic homeplanet, the Xathosians wear breathing apparatus that morph the sounds of their voices. When young, like all of the Xathosians featured in this book, Xathosians sound very robotic and monotone.

Daven is Graey's former bodyguard and royal Manti guard. He is only in a few scenes but is generally a happy guy with a great sense of humor.

(Context for line 2 - Graey has been gone for many years and Daven is both excited and in disbelief that he's back. They are speaking over ship communications, so Daven occasionally turns to talk to the guard next to him.)“...Graey? (Break, to Guard in room) Hey, Maanas! Graey's back! (Break, still to Maanas)Yeah, you probably should call her!"
Calli was an acquaintance of Graey before he was banished from Draconis. She was in an abusive relationship with her fiance, and eventually, Graey stepped in and accidentally killed her fiancee, which caused him to be banished. Calli has remained out of the public eye since then and chooses to retreat to the countryside when Graey returns to avoid him. She has one scene where she delivers a note to Ara for her to give to Graey.

Evrim Jerdonii is a crime lord on Anoplogaster. She is a Cataran-A cat-base species, specifically a lionness in Evrim's case. She has a thick french accent and has a negative opinion of Graey after he inadvertenly got her brother killed.

(Context for line 2 - Evrim reveals that she holds resentment for Graey. She is enraged and yelling at him.) “Don’t worry about it. I didn’t really care about that, he deserved it. What I did care about was that Madame gave her his position. MY POSITION! She kicked me out because a worthless cripple and her Hehirark boyfriend managed to 'impress her'. I worked for that job for THIRTEEN YEARS!”
(Context for line 3 - After Jaenelle tries to convince Evrim to spare them, she decides to play with her food.
