Misao: Definitive Edition Fandub

Project Overview


RPGMaker horror games were a BIG thing back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but I've noticed the "genre" is making a bit of a comeback! There are a couple classics, including (but not limited to!) Ib, Mad Father, The Witch’s House, and of course, Misao.


Misao, a lonely teenage girl who is relentlessly bullied, goes missing. After three months of being gone, the students in her class are mysteriously transported to another world, full of monsters and death traps. You must collect six objects in order to break Misao’s curse, the thing that brought you to this other dimension in the first place.


The original Misao came out in 2011, while the “Definitive Edition” came out in 2017. It has overhauled graphics, adds and changes dialogue, adds more deaths, and a couple of other notable changes. However, it still holds true to the original version. The “Definitive Edition” is the version we will be dubbing. The linked video is the trailer for the Definitive Edition, which will give you a brief look at the game.


This casting call and dub will contain major spoilers for Misao: Definitive Edition, as well as cover/portray mature topics such as violence/gore, sexual assault, pedophilia, etc.


Important notes:

  1. This game has no official voice acting, so voices are all up to interpretation. Any direction/notes in the role description are all my own interpretation. I'd like to see your own take on the characters.

  2. Almost every character will have lines that include screaming, yelling, and crying. Most will be reflected in the audition lines, because I want you to be prepared if you are cast.

  3. Don't feel confined by the "gender" of the role, please audition for whichever roles you feel comfortable voicing!

  4. I will be voicing Aki, the female player character. The game differs slightly between the male and female characters, so I may decide to cover the game as Akito, the male player character, meaning there may be an opening in the future for his role.

  5. The finished product will be uploaded to my YouTube channel.

  6. Currently, the deadline is set for March 31st, 2021, but that is subject to change. I will post updates so you are aware of any changes well beforehand.

  7. This is an unpaid project and I do not plan on paying in the future. This project is simply for fun!

Requirements:

  1. I require minimal/no background noise, peaking, etc. If you need help improving your audio quality, reach out to me! I have some tips and tricks that may help.

  2. I will be using Discord as my main method of communication, so please leave your Discord name with your audition. However, if Discord isn’t an option for you, we can figure something out!

  3. Voice actors must be AT LEAST 13 years old, as per Discord’s TOS. However, due to some subject matter of the game, I recommend that younger VAs do not audition. But if you are comfortable with the subject matter and your voice fits for the characters, age will not impact casting (aside from being under 13).

  4. Please do not slate your auditions. No more than three takes per line, two is ideal, but I have no problem with you submitting one take per line.

  • Casting Soon!

    Hello everyone, sorry for the delay in casting! Things got a bit busy in my personal life, so I hadn't had the time to sit and make casting decisions. Now I have the time to look through and finally cast for this project. I'd like to say thank you so much to everyone who auditioned! Description: The title character, Misao, is a shy, lonely, friendless girl. She was bullied relentlessly by her classmates, worsening her relationships with others. Misao disappeared 3 months before the start of the game.


Range: Any range, but maybe more mid-centered

Notes: 

- Her voice should be soft and a bit timid to reflect her shy nature.

- There are moments when Misao cries, please be able to convincingly sob.

- Misao is in scenes/has lines regarding sexual assault, murder, etc.

  • [Upset, then trying to be optimistic]

    Why did Yoshino tell them...? Well, not like it matters! Because of that, I'm Tohma's girlfriend. I should thank Yoshino.

    [Mortified, reading the text she sent to Tohma aloud as it was posted on the bulletin board outside of the classroom]

    "I love you so much, I love you lots. My heart melts like chocolates when you cross my thoughts."

  • [Misao is confronted by her teacher in an uncomfortable situation, and realizes he locked her in the room with him]

    T-teacher? Uhh... let go, please. This isn't funny, teacher.

    EEK! NOOO! It won't open! Why?! Please! Open up! No, stay away! NOOOOOOOO!

  • [Almost emotionless, but very intense]

    DIE! THE LIKES OF YOU SHOULD DIE! BURN IN HELL!

Description: Tohma is cocky and flirty, but also a bit goofy. However, he is very much a coward.

- Needs a confident and cocky tone, with a goofy side to it.

- As previously mentioned, he is a coward, and will SCREAM, as seen in the audition lines.

Description: Yoshino is your typical high school bully. She is mean, sarcastic, mean-spirited, and even downright evil at points. The majority of Misao's trauma stems from Yoshino's treatment of her.

Description: Mr. Kurata is the teacher of Misao's class. The students generally see him as a kind and caring, and many of the female students have a crush on him. However, as you progress further in the game, you realize that he isn't what he seems. Kurata is riddled with insecurities and violent tendencies.

Voice: Mid-range

Notes:
- I expect his voice to sound very smooth and professional, yet still caring.
- There are flashbacks featuring a young Kurata, so I am looking for someone who can offer two different voices for the ages we see him as, while still sounding like the same character, of course.
- This character is in scenes/has lines regarding assault, pedophilia, murder, etc.

  • Be careful. Don't you dare die out there. After all, you're one of my dear students.

    Did something happen to you? Please, tell me whatever's troubling you. We can discuss it all you like.

Description: Kudoh is a quiet, mature guy. He is generally calm and composed and is a voice of reason in many situations.

Notes: Needs a calm, rational voice. However, he does have moments where he is sensitive, and where he really cracks.

 Description: Onigawara, a mysterious, enigmatic man, is the Student Council President at the students' high school. His role in the story is essentially as a guide (and save point) for the player.

Range: Mid to low

Notes: Onigawara should speak in a calm, proper, sophisticated manner.

    I am Onigawara, the student council president. And this is the student council room. It is the result of a girl's curse that this school was sealed into another world.

Essentially, I'm looking for a handful of voice actors who can cover the many extras of the game. They range from teachers, to bullies, to a veterinarian, and so on.

All "female" roles are teenage characters, while a handful of the "male" roles are adults. For the male roles, pick whichever lines you can perform convincingly.

  • Female extras:

    Student - T-teacheeeer... I had a fight with my friend, and I apologized... but she said she wouldn't be my friend anymore...

    Bully - Think you're hot stuff now that you're Tohma's girlfriend, huh?

  • Male extras:

    Teacher - You there!  Face front and pay attention!

    Student - What the hell are you going on about? I'M the student council president. There's no "Onigawara" in the student council.
