Millie: A Sheridan Third Year Animated Film

Millie: A Sheridan Third Year Animated Film

Project Overview

A student film being created by a group of twelve about a frog girl, who has moved into a human inhabited area, attending her first day of school. An immigration story at heart, Millie will seek to emulate a style reminiscent of old cartoons and watercolour picture books.

Our titular character, Millie, is a new student at her school inhabited by humans. However, she is a frog and her classmates look upon her with both uncertainty and disdain due to their differences. As the day goes on, Millie makes a friend, Cindy, who takes to her quickly throughout the day despite their differences. Our film will show the progression of this school day as Millie faces both oppression and compassion and looks to find acceptance in the end.

We aim to have our film to be approximately 4-5 minutes long and it will be animated digitally. As Sheridan students, we would appreciate having actors who are in the Oakville, Ontario area to record audio, but if you have clear microphone, that will also suffice.

Rules:

  1. Please use a professional sounding microphone or notify us that you are in the school area and can record on site with a proper mic.

  2. Multiple takes for each line is recommended!

  3. We may reach out to you to do a retake on a line in order to further gauge suitability.

Latest Updates

  • Casting Call is Officially Over!!

Hello everyone! We'd just like to say, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE AUDITIONS!! We're incredibly humbled and flattered from the outpouring of love for Millie and we're extremely excited to show you all the final product when possible! However, since auditions are now closed, we will now be accepting and rejecting the auditions some time tonight. Unfortunately, we are unable to take all of you on for the roles! The decisions for voices is tough, especially when there were numerous entries for roles we felt could each take the character to a new level. Please keep in mind that a rejection is in no way a dismissal of your skill and hard work; it all came down to the smallest details and we came to a general consensus over our decisions. Also, if you are rejected for a role, please do still be on the look out in the case we require extra voice work. We may contact you again through the site! Keep working hard and keep doing voice work! We were amazed at the amount of talent and range that exists here and we encourage you all to keep going!
  • Deadline Final Change!!!

As a result of our busy schedules, we ended up pushing the deadline to January 16, 2018! A few of our members are also looking for voices outside of this site but we will be sure to inform you on here as well! That being said, starting around Wednesday next week, we will begin sending out rejections. Keep in mind that we are not rejecting you because your voice work is bad or anything, it is just a hard decision to make and we are a group of 12 members that need to have a general consensus in regards to your audition. We highly appreciate your enthusiasm and eagerness to work with us and we'll do our best to put forth a strong final product come April!
  • Deadline pushed back a week!

Hello everyone! We appreciate all your auditions so far! We're really astounded by the amount of talent we've heard and we're excited to work with you! As we need a bit more time to deliberate due to the holidays taking up some time, we pushed the deadline back by a week to January 9, 2018. I hope you all have a fantastic New Years!

A young frog girl coming from a distant island, Millie is a shy but sweet girl who is nervous for her first day at school. While generally quiet, she slowly opens up throughout the day from hanging out with Cindy, her new friend. She is a kid at heart and loves things that remind her of home and will not hesitate to slurp up a tasty worm to eat.

Due to her froggy nature, a young voice that has a bit of a croak/ribbit to it would be cute! She is also meant to be vaguely reminiscent of several of our group members (and surveyed users) shared experiences with being an Asian immigrant in North America, so a voice actress of Asian descent would be preferred.

  • M-my name is Millie! (somewhat shy but trying to be enthusiastic; she's introducing herself to her class for the first time)

  • I AM a frog! We eat the same things I guess but- (in response to being asked if she was really a frog; end off a bit uncertain)

  • That's... We don't just... (she's losing confidence in herself)

A friendly girl who takes quickly to Millie on her first day of school. As Millie's first friend, she tries hard to keep Millie away from the scrutiny and bullying from other students. However, Cindy does not to be all that she seems to be and is hiding something...

We imagine a very cheerful yet somewhat reserved voice for Cindy, as a hint to her second nature that will be revealed in the film. There is a part where she is desperate to keep this secret hidden, so a voice that can show this will be required!

  • Millie..? This seat's free.. if you want? (a bit hesitant but she still wants to make a good impression on Millie as the rest of her class seems to avoid her)

  • Jeez Paul, worms aren't even THAT bad. (she is Done with Paul; kind of annoyed)

  • N-no.. No way! Worms are gross..! There's no way I'd do that! I'm not a slimy little -- (trying to defend herself against an accusation that she also eats worms)

A rotten kid who is also a part of Millie's class. He antagonizes Millie for her frog-like nature and is constantly taunting and teasing her throughout the day. This reaches its peak near the end of the film.

We are looking for a vaguely nasty sounding voice for him. He is a very unpleasant boy who has no remorse for the actions he does to Millie throughout the day.

  • Huhu... like worms?? (mocking tone)

  • Go back to to the pond where you belong!

One of Millie's classmates and Corey's partner in crime. She is a seemingly sweet at first glance girl but is quick to reveal her truth when Corey begins to tease Millie.

As a bratty girl at heart, we want her to have a voice that is overbearingly sweet when kissing up to teachers but horrible to her and Corey's victims. Think something like Vicky from Fairly Odd Parents or Angelica from Rugrats.

  • Worm-eater! Worm-eater! (teasing tone)

  • W-where's Corey? He can't swim..! (dawning horror upon witnessing her friend fall into a pond)

  • Ms. Crossland! (she is running to find help)

A elementary school teacher who is supportive of her students, yet has an air of tiredness and obliviousness to her behaviour. She keeps a happy front but is deeply tired and just wants vacation to come. She is unaware of most of the happenings outside her classes.

We imagine her voice to be that of a tired woman who just wants to return home and sleep. You know when people have their index finger and thumb to show how close they are to doing something? She is that close. A voice with a hint of that would definitely be preferred.

  • SETTLE DOWN!! (she is trying to get her class of elementary school kids to quiet down after seeing Millie)

  • Okay Millie why don't you - (pause) *sigh* ...yes Paul? (goes from pleasant to mildly exasperated with Paul)

  • Corey...? ... Corey? Does anyone know where Corey is? (doing attendance; Corey is missing from class)

The various students that make up Millie's classroom. While not overtly rude to Millie in their actions, their words say enough. As they are children, they are still pretty unaware and ignorant of their words.

We are looking for a few background voices to give the class more life. A childlike behaviour of saying these lines would be good!

  • Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man..! (like the kid's game)

  • You know what they say about frogs..! (hushed gossipy tone)

  • She's gonna eat us..!! (teasing tone; somewhat mocking)
