Mech Gremlins Kickstarter Update Videos

Mech Gremlins Kickstarter Update Videos

Project Overview

Gremlin Mechs (or Mech Gremlins, I haven't fully decided yet) is a card game about piloting a dieselpunk mech in Germany during the Spring of Nations which is also the German Wars of Unification and the Napoleonic Wars and also WW1. Several updates for the Kickstarter will include voice acted skits that help establish the setting and tone and explain how the game is played and what the contents of different editions are.

Role assigned to: Alben Bloomfield

Dieter is the shorter, pudgier gremlin pilot of the Freihetskampfer mech. He is generally more surly and stubborn compared to Klaus.

  • Klaus, can you cover for me just a minute? I'm going to need another cup of coffee if I'm doing a revolution after work.

  • [deadpan] Get in the walker, we're killing everyone who owns more than one cow.

  • [narrating gameplay] We only need our chassis if we plan on running away! Anyway, what else will we do with the 6? We'll use the 2 on the the core to confront the castle with our front armor and prevent anything catastrophic like that direct hit, then fire an incendiary shell at the machine gun team in the center. That will bring the castle to the center.

The taller, skinnier gremlin pilot of the Freheitskampfer mech. Less confrontational and more accommodating than Dieter.

  • [discussing joining the revolution with Dieter] Is waiting until the end of the workday the revolutionary thing to do, do you think?

  • [part of an in-character example play, starting out slightly concerned and ending near panicked] That means it's the enemy's turn! There are three enemies on the frontline, plus that castle has a long range attack, so they'll be rolling four dice. Two fours and two sixes, assigned from lowest to highest starting at the top and moving left to right and then top to bottom. Gunfire, gunfire, gunfire, that's a total of 4 points of damage to our machine gun!

  • [establishing what part cards are used in the mech in an in-character example play] Looks like a medium-armored chicken walker with a bulky engine, tank cannon primary weapon, and a machinegun secondary.

Gremlin Plutocrat

Paid: Flat Rate 20 USD
Role assigned to: David John-Bores

A British plutocrat gremlin observing the conflict in Germany from afar, who appears in one skit about the unnecessarily decadent deluxe version of the game. The interface won't let me go below one hour, but as he only has about eight lines, this role should only take about 20-30 minutes to record, tops.

  • Sign me up for the unreasonably expensive and gaudy tier, you know, the one that will only be available in the first printing, that sort of thing.

  • We'll toss some custom dice into the box with a special little symbol for the face with the one. God, I love special little symbols for the face with the one. Throw some wood bits in while we're at it.

Role assigned to: John Kennard

Gremlin butler to the gremlin plutocrat. Mostly there to prompt the gremlin plutocrat to explain the contents of the game's unnecessarily decadent bourgeoise edition. The interface won't let me assign a time of less than one hour, but this character shows up in one 3-ish minute skit and shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes to record lines for.

  • There is also a card game based on the conflict, I'm told. You roll dice and fight Prussian mechs.

  • [After hearing the gremlin plutocrat propose that his version of the game will have a game board for the campaign map] You do realize that eleven and a half by eight inches is standard copy paper, sir? You could just print one off.

Paid: Flat Rate 20 USD
Role assigned to: John Kennard

Otto is a gremlin officer in the revolutionary army fighting to overthrow the remnants of the Holy Roman Empire and establish German democracy. He's mostly used to explain strategic gameplay in the campaign mode of the game.

  • You may wish to conclude a less maximalist peace treaty with some of our enemies so you can focus on others. Signing a favorable peace treaty will give us more legitimacy with our other foes as well. If the Austrians and the Prussians see that the Danish have been forced to cede Holstein-Schleswig to us, they will reconsider how realistic their plans to depose us really are.

  • We don't have time for your alternate history fantasies where establishing a national identity takes longer than six weeks, all of these wars and revolutions are happening now!

  • We do not have very many mechs, please do not get yours blown up because you think the fucking Somme won't be so hard.
