M/F Actors Wanted for Audio-fiction Podcast [PAID]
Project Overview
Casting multiple characters for a murder-mystery audio-drama podcast. The story is a throwback to a classic whodunnit, and unfolds through the recollections of each of the interviewed suspects.
I'm looking for VAs who are able to deliver natural performances and interested in creating realistic characters. Recordings will be done remotely, but with live direction and (sometimes) in collaboration with other actors.
Recording sessions will begin early February 2022.

The character is earnest, intelligent, and driven. Her voice is calm and confident.
The police gave up on this case a long time ago. It’s already been five years. And while the answers may come eventually, I don’t have that long.
(confrontational)
It was no secret he was unfaithful. I knew you’d find that out. You did, didn’t you? Was it necessary for me to bring that up? Did you need me to say it?
You’re very cryptic, Mr. Sullivan. You know I don’t have much time. Please, tell me what I want to know. Which one of them was lying?”
The character is loyal, dedicated to her work and employer, and protective of her family. Her voice is gentle and often reserved, although it can sound fierce when confronted.
I shouldn’t be doing this without my lawyer, but to be honest I have nothing to hide. And besides, I want to help you catch whoever did this.
(reflective/emotional)
One afternoon I broke down in front of him. I told him I was afraid of losing my son. It was so unprofessional! I thought he would fire me—or report me. But instead, he offered to help.
(confrontational)
Mr. Sullivan, let’s get something straight. I know there are rumors that I was sleeping with Mr. Croft, and that’s why he left me some of his estate. It sells a lot of books, and it generates a lot of clicks, but it’s not true.
The character is calculating and cold, but when he’s hiding something he shows a friendlier side. Two voice “personalities” are needed: a phony friendly and a curt, clipped irritable tone (see notes in each line).
(friendly)
I’d known him since we were both undergrads at Harvard. We didn’t exactly run in the same sort of crowd back then. I was just another nerd, but he might as well have been a prince on campus. Those were wild times!
(irritable)
You didn’t tell me you had the police report. Who gave that to you? Was it Samantha?
(irritable)
He always thought he was smarter, but so often he skated by on others work. He’s takes what others give. I mean, look at how he’s treated his wife.”
The character is an LA instagram model still trying to hang onto her prime. She is overly-dramatic, self-important, and vain. Her voice has a little vocal fry.
(friendly/bubbly)
You’re so sweet! I think it’s all about staying positive, you know? Positive energy. Positive people.
(angry)
Is this a tabloid? Well you can speak to my f—king lawyer. I don’t talk publicly about those things. I don’t appreciate you taking advantage of the situation!
(distraught)
God, he could be a real bastard. But that doesn’t mean I wanted him dead. I had my reasons, but I never would’ve done that to him.
(optional line 4)
Straight men are so easy. He was thrilled. He said he hadn’t stopped thinking about me. We made plans to meet that night.”
The character is a powerful kingmaker in silicon valley tech. He is rich, short-tempered, self-assured. He’s a leading voice in the industry. His voice is authoritative, confident, and booming.
(Confronting)
Listen to me. She’s isn’t a suspect. Mr. Sullivan, I don’t know who murdered Allen, but I know she had no part of it. I don’t want you to contact her again. She called me last night. She was in tears!
(Defensive)
At time the power had gone out, I’d already left. You can ask Martin, or the others. They saw me in the hall.
After I heard the screaming I went to see what the hell was going on. It was total chaos. Someone had to take charge. I told the maid to call the police—told Aaron to get some towels. He’d already made a mess of the scene, walking in the blood.
The character is smug, brash, and reckless. He’s smart, but not as smart as he thinks he is (or acts). He sounds like a little bit of a “tech bro” when he get’s going.
Did I know Allen Cobb? Allen collected Rothkos to hang on his bathroom wall. We didn’t exactly run in the same circles. No, I’d never even met the guy before that weekend.
I don’t remember. I’d had too many drinks at that point. But I think it was during dessert? We all figured it was Cobb up in his lab. Like I said: the whole night was weird.
(paranoid/frightened)
Are you working for Scepter? Those people are bad news. Bad news! They’re probably taping this right now. They listen to everything. Cobb knew it. It got too big for him, and that’s why he had to go.
The character is a white man who has dedicated his life to spirituality and new age ideals. His voice calm, peaceful, and very self-assured (borderline arrogant).
My followers know me by many different names, but whichever makes you most comfortable will suit me.
I think you may misunderstand. I’m not a teacher, detective. I’m only a guide. Man must teach himself. I can only shine a light on the path.
I don’t understand the word "supernatural". People only use that word when something doesn’t fit into their understanding of natural. Death is natural. But there was a bad energy. Seeing the body shook me.
The character is a retired homicide detective from Reno, NV. His voice is a little gruff, but also can be grandfatherly. He is 60+ years old.
What did you say your name was? Sully? What is it with detectives and funny names?
His wife, Ryleigh, was also there. I don’t know if you’ve heard of her; she’s supposed to be famous. She’s some kind of actress or influencer or whatever. She was half his age, so you know…
We found the victim on the second floor of the house, lying face down right inside the lab door. There were eight stab wounds in the back and a ninth wound in the throat.”
"I’ve always been a little bit of an old school guy. I still use a landline telephone, I do my writing on a twenty year old desktop, and I don’t trust GPS. I have an extensive record collection—that’s vinyl records—and not because I’m some hipster who whines about fidelity; it’s because I can’t tell the difference. I guess I’m what they call a “laggard”, which sounds offensive. I like to think I’m nostalgic. My ex-wife says I'm just stubborn."
"I’m not saying I know what happened that night. But I need you—you most of all—to tell me everything. Or no one (not me, the police, or God) will ever find out who murdered your husband. Every time you hold something back, it slows me down."
NOTE: He’s saying this during an argument with one of the suspects. He just found out he’s been lied to."But your real plans came later. If you could murder Croft after midnight, no one would be the wiser. So, as they all waited for the police to arrive, you excused yourself. Instead of going to your room, you went to the kitchen for the knife. Before going upstairs, you went to the breaker box. You killed the lights. And then you killed Croft.”
NOTE: This is him confronting the killer and laying out what happened.
