M.A.R.A. - [20+] Animated Short Film (Original))

Project Overview

Project Title: M.A.R.A. (Title is still a work in progress)Project Overview:

Emily is trying to escape her prison cell. She has only one friend she can count on, but one she never sees. She follows her plan and hopes to escape, all while being under the watchful eye of Mara.

To help you understand what I am looking for, here are brief descriptions of the look/style, sound, and any other details I need to mention for this project.

The Look:

Something that is animated in the style of Arcane (Netflix series), but with a touch of surrealism.

(Update 03/11/2025)

I will be changing it to 2D Animation, but that sense of surrealism is still something I want (but if you have another interesting art style than I am willing to change it.)

The Sound:

It will make you feel on edge. Not so much as creepy sounds, but that feeling you get when you hear something and it just does not feel right.

The Genre:

This is a sci-fi psychological thriller. It was inspired by the talk show scene in Joker, also influenced by my intense obsession with Criminal Minds.

Why Join This Project?

This is an exciting chance to hone your animation and design skills! Even if you lack a portfolio and create just a sample for this project, you can still join the team. It’s my first venture into animation, and I’m eager to learn the process. Therefore, a committed team will bring this vision to life. We will showcase the short film on a new platform focused on independent filmmakers.

I would like to emphasize that a committed and passionate team is what is needed for this project. I know most of the crew will work on their own, but I would like to see updates on progress and some form of communication.

We will add and update roles as necessary! So keep an eye out and follow this project :)

Regarding getting into roles:

Of course, you can learn at the moment, but be open to feedback and be collaborative. You must have a discord! Let's mostly talk here, or use Discord if it's easier. Next up, we'll add you to the server if you're chosen.

I apologize for the very brief description attached to the roles. I am new to this and don't fully understand the animation pipeline. So, once again, people with experience are preferred.

  • I KNOW ITS BEEN A WHILE!!!

    I did announce this to the crew I had/have, but some personal stuff have taken priority. As this show BROKEN (OF) LOVE once said "There are many people, whose duty and responsibility make them unable to follow their dreams." And although I seem to be landing in that category, I hope I can follow my dreams and make this project my main focus in the future! For now I will be focusing on my other responsibilities while also trying to take this project off the ground.

  • Writers and Storyboard Artist FOUND

    Things are progressing nicely! Writers have joined to make the script polished, and a storyboard artist is ready to start boarding once the story is finalized.

  • Two roles for Development phase!

    So, I come bearing great news! There are two roles right now that might be getting filled. That would mean that the development phase will begin and production is closer at hand! So, sooner or later casting for this project will be happening! I am hoping for summer or winter of this year, but one can only hope for now. But keep a look out for that.

    I will either add the role here or make it as a separate project specifically for casting. Well that is it for now. I'll write to ya later!

    Drawing Update

    I decided to learn how to draw and as of right now I am doing some basic drawing exercises. On top of that I also explain briefly what the role is.

    Although the funds don't seem to be working out, which is why I changed this project to unpaid, I am still hopeful that people will still want to see and help with it.
