Lucid Garden - The Gangster Subplot Casting Call
Project Overview
17+ REQUIRED.
Lucid Garden is an indie animated concept; a comedy drug satire/SoL set in the dystopian ghettos of a bug n flower society where natural happiness is a myth.
These gangsters serve as the sideline edge to the “normal” everyday lives of the main cast, and though they may not get as much screen time, the role they play is quite significant to the story, in ways we may not see till much later…

This series as it stands is predominately a passion project, especially since it is considered just a concept. Crowdfunding is planned for the future, but for now I’m just focusing on figuring out if this project is even possible. And with several scripts finished, I feel confident enough to take a peak at the talent out there to see what my project could be made of. Finding the voices of my characters and knowing they exist really motivates me to keep going and put in the effort to make this real.
Before sending your audition, please make sure:
-I can clearly hear your voice
-There are no bg noises (if this cannot be helped, that is fine)
-It is sent in any audio file format

The main antagonist of the series. Named after his species—rainbow stag beetle—he’s a cold crime boss with an unsettling chill about him. You can never really tell if he’s cool with you or not. He rarely raises his voice, even when he’s clearly ticked off—unless you dare to physically assault him. If not, he’ll just stare you down, size up to you till you can’t breath and quietly threaten you with terrifying scenarios :>
As for the voice, I’ve always imagined him speaking with a mid-pitch gritty rumble, but only recently have I thought about him having a non-proper-sounding British accent (MLE). Like he still has that urban swag in there but it’s subtly British. I dunno I always liked the combination and I think it fits him well.

Black lilly, Stag’s second-in-command and lowkey partner. She’s more mysterious than anything, but if you did know her, you’d know that she’s extremely loyal, independent, and willing to take the risks for a better life. Even if it means playing in death’s face.
Her voice ranges from mid to low pitch, speaks with authority but has her soft moments. She has a bit of a rasp, too. I think she sounds like Tip from Home :P

He’s a proactive little fire ant who likes to ease his victims with a charming, friendly act before getting to his messy business. He likes to think he’s in charge, taking much joy in manipulating and scaring people into giving him what he wants. He has no problem resorting to the extreme, which is why he’s got such a heavy kill streak. One of the things he’s respected for in the gang.
His voice actually leans toward a higher pitch, chill and almost silky, to reflect that toxic friendliness. Voices that come close to his is Al G. Rhythm from Space Jam 2 and Aaron Burr from the Hamilton musical.

This black & flame iris is the queen of her own, all-flower gang. She’s got all the sass and 0 apologies, complete with an ambitious craving for chaos. Morals don’t apply in her logic. It’s all about status and power, living the “good” life, and making sure no one can take it away from her. She’s not afraid to make it clear she’s in charge, and refuses to abide by anything unless money is involved. And even then, she’ll usually find a way to implement her own terms & conditions.
I’m looking for a raspy, high-energy voice for this baddie, so have fun with it >:3
Closest voice to hers is Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi from Lego Movie 2.

(Laid-back, confident) How could I say no to hazardous chaos? I’ll let em know they messin with the wrong iris, don’t even worry bout it.
To be honest, he’s lowkey the protagonist of this sub plot. He’s a timid guy, but he knows how to act tough too. He hates being pushed around and isn’t afraid to show off attitude and put up a fight, despite knowing he’ll more than likely lose. He’s real good at timing his “run away” moment. Since he’s a fly, he unfortunately deals with a level of racism and is misjudged by age-old rumors and stereotypes. But it goes over his head since he’s so used to it. Deep down though, he wants to prove that he’s worth more than what everyone else sees, and that he’s capable of making a life for himself. He’s got a tender side, too.
I have a general idea for what he sounds like—mid pitch, urban—but it’s not as strict or specific. So just give your best shot based on his desc. I believe in ya :D
