Lost & Found - Animatic Short Film

Lost & Found - Animatic Short Film

Project Overview

Death lives within every branch, speck of dirt, and blade of grass. With no familiarity of the outside, Treasure quickly becomes the most vulnerable cat in The Woodlands. His desperation and ego--once considered burdens--are now the key to his survival.

Hello everyone! Thank you for taking interest in my project “Lost and Found.”

“Lost and Found” is a two-part short film. The script will be complete by the deadline and the film will be drawn in an animatic style entirely by myself. So, while the production will take at least a few months for each part, the recording for the lines will be a short-term process.

Disclaimers:

  • This project will be posted on YouTube.

  • You must be at least 18 years old. I'd like to work with adults only as there are mature themes of violence and death.

  • Please have an average or decent quality microphone. This is by no means a high budget project but still, I’d like to aim for no background noise or peaking.

  • Be responsive - If you are cast, I will give you my discord—so be sure you have a discord account. I won't be very strict on deadlines, but we absolutely need to have good communication. If you are unresponsive for an extended time without warning, your character will be re-cast.

  • Have fun! I'm a very collaborative person so if you feel the need to improvise or switch the wording of a line--I'm totally open to that! Just please respect my decision to decline any changes.

“Lost & Found” is a summer passion project of mine and I am hoping to find equally passionate voice actors to bring my story to life. I hope you'll join me!

Naive by nurture, Treasure is a housecat who has been thrown into a foreign, brutal world. His entitlement stems from his fear. He spent his entire life indoors, and the uncertainty and terrors of The Woodlands make him insecure. He is desperate to latch on to anyone to save himself but at the same time, too stubborn to commit to a feral lifestyle like Box.

He has been described as social, pretentious, sensitive, & bold.

  • [Treasure is panicked, believing his life is in danger but trying to save face.] Box, seriously. Can we please leave?

  • [Treasure is suddenly separated from his parental figure, believing them to be dead. He is in horror. He is yelling.] Box! (panicked breathing).

  • [Treasure is arguing with Box about his lack of survival skills. He is very defensive and in shock.] I would have most likely died, yes, I know! But that’s not what I meant. You can’t expect me to learn all this in a few days. I just lost everything! How can you expect me to even think about-- / / / [Offended, a bit pathetic.] Is that what this was? Scaring me with some cheap trick is hardly motivation…If anything it just kind of hurt my feelings.

An antisocial vagabond. Unfortunately, Treasure has tasked her as his personal chaperone of The Woodlands. She is a tragic product of her environment. Even so, her short fuse and cutthroat nature make her a perfect representation of life in The Woodlands.

She has been described as gruff, matter-of-fact, and capable.

  • [Box is giving hints to Treasure on the animal that’s following them. Her tone is deadpan but she has a slight smile.] No. It’s bigger and red-furred--kinda like you but with an ounce of self preservation.

  • [Box is arguing with Treasure about his lack of survival skills. She is very frustrated and tired.] You don’t have a choice, Treasure. No one wants to live like this, but if you don’t change, you will die. I don’t understand how that doesn’t motivate you.

  • [Box is confronting Treasure. Her voice is low and intimidating.] Do you want to end up like this?

  • [After accidentally startling his friend, Jar attempts to quickly calm her down.] I’m sorry, I’m sorry--I just wanted to check on you.

  • [Tense but sympathetic.] It's nothing I can understand. And I don't think trying to will do us any good.

  • [Lighthearted teasing of a friend he knows is listening.] I'm sure she's stalking us somewhere.

  • [Stern and a little hurt.] Don't lie to me, Jar. I don’t want anything to change between us--especially our trust.

  • [She just came off a tense conversation and is changing the subject.] Okay. I'm gonna go get Key to gather everyone. I want us to head west before dawn.

  • [Fighting back tears but mostly stoic.] No, yeah, I’m…I’ll be okay. / / / [She unexpectedly sees the spirit/ghost of a loved one.] AH!

Often found roaming in the trees, she watches over the colony but especially her mate, Thread. In The Woodlands, every day proves to be a challenge of basic survival and keeping a community together. So, she does her best to keep the peace--whether it's to mend any arguments or make sure everyone gets their share of rations.

She has been described as charismatic, easy going, & open.

  • [Key is comforting her mate, Thread, who is on the verge of tears.] Thread. Hang in there, alright?

  • [Key is teasing a friend.] Don’t flatter yourself, Jar.

  • [Genuine/Sweet.] Of course. I’m on it. But… [Her tone changes to more grim/serious.] Jar, I need to talk to you.
