Library of Ruina: The Fandub (Round 1 - The Librarians)

Library of Ruina: The Fandub (Round 1 - The Librarians)

Project Overview

Hi there! Welcome to auditions for Library of Ruina, a fan dub project for the sequel to Lobotomy Corporation by Project Moon!

Warning: This game contains body horror, murder, and mentions of suicide and substance abuse! Though few things are explicitly shown on screen due to the game's rating, discretion is advised if these are sensitive topics!

Library of Ruina directly follows the events of Lobotomy Corporation. It follows a washed-up Fixer named Roland, who finds himself in the Library, a magical place led by the AI Angela. Angela recruits Roland as her servant to teach her about the outside world, as she is trapped in the Library and can only leave if she becomes human. To that end, she invites guests to do receptions for the Library - if they win in combat, they will get whatever books they please, but if they lose, they will be turned into books themselves. As the Library grows more notorious and more powerful people start visiting it, a plot is slowly unveiled that could change the entire City - and the Library is at the heart of it...

Submission Guidelines - Any submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be DISQUALIFIED!

  1. Submissions will only be accepted through Casting Call Club!

  2. Include your Discord in your audition description.

  3. Do not include a voice filter unless otherwise specified!

  4. This is an English dub; all characters will default to a North American accent unless otherwise specified! You won't necessarily be disqualified for other accents but do note it will very much hurt your chances if it's unfitting for the character.

  5. Absolutely no use of AI will be tolerated for submissions - by that extension, you have my word no AI tools will be used in this project!

In addition, I would prefer if you only record one take for each line, but I won't disqualify you on the spot for it! It would be appreciated if you could cut out any silence too, but that is not required.

That's all! Thank you for auditioning in advance; I look forward to hearing everyone's voices!

Latest Updates

  • Library of Ruina: The Fandub - Casting Announcement

Hello, fellow librarians! That fateful time has come - it's casting time! Before we get into it, I want to give a big thank you to absolutely everyone who auditioned! The fact that you took time out of your day to record something for this project really does mean a lot to me - and I could feel that passion come through in the performances! It was really tough picking out some of these because there were so many good auditions, but ultimately I think I've made the right decision with casting!

Without further ado, here are our roles!

    Roland: Isme Maslow

    Angela: writergamernerd

    Malkuth: ZZ/Peach

    Yesod: Damien-VA

    Hod: strawberrybunnz

    Netzach: Stuck in the screen

    Tiphereth: Rainy

    Gebura: Mia. the _Artist

    Chesed: Garfunkel VO

    Binah: Kunimori Leo

    Hokma: Tsubaki.VA.

Congratulations to our all-star cast! I'll be sending all of you guys friend requests on Discord shortly and an invite to the server I've set up!

To those who DIDN'T get roles, though, don't be discouraged! If you're still interested in this project, Round 2 will be going up very soon, with more roles to audition for - and there will be plenty more rounds beyond then! (Most roles from here on out will be pretty minor, but if you're looking for a "major" role to try to audition for, keep an eye on Round 4!) Do note, however, that some of you got your audition skipped because you didn't include your Discord tag - which was explicitly in the rules! So just be sure to do that if you're coming back for a future round, ehehe.

I hope to see everyone again in the future! May you find your book in this place!

  • Library of Ruina - Final Week Update

Greetings, fellow librarians! This will be the last update before I announce casting - which is in a week! We're in the home stretch by this point! There's really not much I can say that I haven't said already - so many amazing auditions, it's gonna be difficult to cast just one person for each role. Which is why I'm extending the invitation again to audition for future waves, because there will be quite a few of them!

That's all I've got for this update; a pretty short one - you all just keep being awesome, and I'll see you in a week! May you find your book in this place!

  • Library of Ruina: The Fandub - Week 2 Update

Greetings, fellow librarians! I can't believe how well things have been going - we have over double the amount of submissions from last week, which is fantastic! There's still so many amazing auditions coming in and it's getting really hard to decide who's gonna get what role by this point... and there's STILL two weeks left on top of that!

I've updated the actual project page a bit just to clarify some rules and make things a little easier to comprehend. A couple people have asked to resubmit auditions or audition for other roles after submitting an initial batch - and by all means, I encourage it if you believe you can do better! I'd love to hear what everyone is fully capable of.

Once again, keep in mind there WILL be other roles to audition for past these, if you don't get a part here! These are just our main characters. The next set of auditions will cover the first few Library receptions, with a batch of quirky characters to pick from. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone brings to the table no matter what!

Thank you for your time, everyone! May you find your book in this place!

  • Library of Ruina: The Fandub - Week 1 Update

Hello, fellow librarians! First of all, thank you to everyone who's auditioned so far! I've listened to each and every one, and though I'm not going to make any final decisions, I greatly appreciate everyone who took time out of their day to record something for this! We have at least one audition for every role except Gebura (surprising!) Binah (understandably, as she's a really hard character to get down), so if you know someone who would be a good Gebura or Binah, send them our way, would ya?

As a minor thing! To the people who accidentally submitted more than one take and realized their mistake afterwards - don't worry about it; you'll still be considered! I mostly included that rule on the off chance we got a TON of auditions and it'd be too much hassle to look through all of them, but they've been pretty manageable so far! (Plus you guys have been really good otherwise anyway. ;3)

We've still got less than a month before the deadline rolls around! That's right before Christmas, so my plan is to spend the next day looking over all the auditions one more time, and then I'll cast people and send y'all a Discord link! And to those who don't get the part, I still appreciate all the effort so far!

Once again, thank you all for your time, and I'll have another update next week! May you find your book in this place!

One of the main protagonists of Library of Ruina. After a chance visit to the Library, Roland ends up as Angela's servant. He seems like a pretty normal and likable person, describing himself as a washed-up Grade 9 Fixer... but in fact, there's more to him than meets the eye. Roland is a deeply troubled man with a dark past involving the deaths of his wife and unborn child, having left countless bodies in his wake in a fruitless revenge spree... and despite his claims otherwise, he may not have come across Angela by chance...

For this role, I'm looking for someone who can generally portray an everyman, with a low-to-medium adult voice (he's 33). Should generally just sound like a guy you can meet on the street, generally very relaxed. However, Roland gets lines in the finale of the game that are far more serious and vengeful in tone; I've included one of those to see how well the actor can portray that side of him.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [Skeptical, after Angela asks him to work for her.] "Do you happen to have some weird fantasies about Fixers? Aren't you expecting too much from a Grade 9? I'm not as talented as you seem to think, y'know."

  • [Resigned, somewhat dismissive.] "Whatever happened in your past doesn't matter, really. That's that, and this is this."

  • [Dead serious, tranquil yet furious.] "I'm done with the facade now. I'll do everything I can - in ways beyond your imagination - to give you the most painful death possible."

Role assigned to: Alice Irvin

Angela is the other main protagonist of Library of Ruina; she was an AI built to manage Lobotomy Corporation before it transformed into the Library. She serves as the Librarian's director, starting receptions with the guests and giving them the opportunity to claim the books they desire... as long as they pass an ordeal. She presents herself as professional, composed, and sophisticated, but has endured literal thousands of years of trauma - and will do anything to become human again.

For this role, I'm looking for an adult woman with a low-medium voice. Angela doesn't express a particularly wide range of emotion throughout the game, so keeping your voice level is a plus; there are points where she will tear up a bit or have barely restrained anger, but they're not as major, and she's generally able to keep her composure. There are flashback scenes where she will be more emotional, so I've included a line to see how well those are portrayed.

Voice description:
  • female adult
  • [Politely introducing herself to a guest.] "Greetings, dear guests. I am Angela, director of the Library. May you find your book in this place."

  • [Annoyed at Roland's casual banter.] "If you spout such nonsense one more time, I'll gladly turn you into a human popcorn machine as you so wish. I've already gone through so many cycles of bullshittery, responding to every bit of meaningless rubbish."

  • [Quiet, heartbroken at the way her creator treats her as just a machine.] "Why did you have to model me after a person with fond memories of you? I am here, looking at you and only you."

Role assigned to: ZZ/Peach

Malkuth is the Patron Librarian of the Floor of History. In the past, she was an employee known as Elijah, but died from Ayin's neglect. Though she still has problems with Angela due to things that happened between them, she's a cheery person who's determined to face the future as best as she can.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice with a generally energetic tone. Malkuth is a very forward and upbeat person, though she has a gloomy and self-deprecating side on occasion. She also helped command her team when they were fighting against Angela in the past, so she should be able to have a level of authority during certain points; I've included a line with that for the actor to demonstrate.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • [Cheerful, reassuring Roland after he expressed concern for her.] "I can't let my personal affairs get in the way of work now! I still have my problems with Angela but it's not like getting mad about it will do me any good."

  • [Gloomy, recalling her past life as Elijah.] "I'm an irresponsible person who let down everyone's efforts. And an idiot who tried to reach for something out of my means and ended up causing trouble, I suppose..."

  • [Determined, commanding her fellow librarians.] "All personnel, please follow my lead! The Control Team will be in command now! Architecture Team, please stop Angela from taking over all the systems!"

Role assigned to: Damien-VA

Yesod is the patron librarian of the Floor of Technological Sciences. Once an employee named Gabriel, Elijah's death drove him to insanity and death of his own. Formerly a very cold and closed off person, he has since opened up a bit and is freer with expressing his emotions, even though he still keeps a cool, composed personality about him.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium voice, always sounding formal and composed. Pretty much a male version of Angela in that regard, except without the politeness - he's not rude or anything, but he can be quite blunt, and his voice should reflect that.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • [Introducing himself to Roland.] "My role is to collect and sort books about the technological sciences of the City, specifically. Since it's become clear that we are both well aware of our occupations, kindly take your leave now."

  • [Mildly irritated at Roland joking around about his past.] "It can't be compared to such ridiculous nonsense. And you have no right to talk so lightly about the sacrifices we made."

  • [Slightly amused after bonding with Roland a bit more.] "It turns out that conversing with you wasn't all too unpleasant, after all."

Role assigned to: strawberrybunnz

Hod is the patron librarian of the Floor of Literature. In her past life, she sold out her company to the Head, which led to it being singlehandedly destroyed by an Arbiter. Though she still carries an immense amount of guilt, she's working towards becoming a better person, and is a very gentle and sweet young woman who even sympathizes with her enemies.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-voice on the softer side. Hod's Japanese voice is very soothing, and I want her actor to reflect that - she's not necessarily shy, but very soft-spoken nonetheless. Pretty straightforward otherwise.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • [Introducing herself to Roland.] "Among the books you bring, I will be sorting those about the literature of the City. As we collect more books, you might be able to find answers to your questions, whether you like it or not."

  • [Musing on the morality of "receiving" guests at the Library.] "I understand that it was their choice to come here... and we have our own goal to achieve, but still... Haha, it feels like I'm just making excuses for myself."

  • [Explaining to Roland why she doesn't hate Angela despite everything.] "Everyone has their own stories. Even if someone is committing bad things right now... I don't want to judge them based solely on the snippets I see of them."

Netzach

Role assigned to: Stuck in the screen

Netzach is the patron librarian of the Floor of Art. Formerly a man named Giovanni, he died after volunteering himself as a test subject for an experiment that went horribly wrong. Formerly very depressed and not willing to live life, he has since found a reason to keep going... but he's still quite a slacker, frequently taking naps and drinking alcohol instead of sorting books.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium voice, definitely on the softer and lazier side. Netzach is basically always tired, so leaning into that and giving him a bit of a drawl would be great. He has a lot of scenes where he's drunk, so if you want to work that into your audition, I've marked a line where he is definitely drunk when saying it - however, you do not have to work that into the line if you think it sounds weird.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • [Tiredly introducing himself to Roland.] "I gotta wonder, how am I always left with the kind of work that doesn't suit me at all? Can you go back now since we're done exchanging names n'all?"

  • [Admitting his resolve to keep on living to Roland.] "In the midst of confusion, I could hear a nostalgic voice. It told me to try and live on. After all those twists and turns, I finally got here. Now with the fearlessness to keep on living."

  • [Mildly excited, but still obviously tired... and drunk.] "This is the liquor with a legacy so deeply tied to art, it's almost legendary. Since I'm in charge of arts, I could use some stimulation to work like a real artist."

Tiphereth

Role assigned to: Rainy

Tiphereth is the patron librarian of the Floor of Natural Sciences. Formerly a duo of children named Lisa and Enoch, Enoch passed on during his second life, with Tiphereth left on her own. She appears as the youngest of the librarians, appearing as a teenager, and has the personality to match - she's bratty and gets irritated over being called a child, but has a good heart and can actually be quite insightful and optimistic.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice that sounds like a teenage girl. She should sound appropriately like a bratty kid, but have her moments of seriousness when she gets a chance.

Voice description:
  • female teen
  • [Irritated at Roland for teasing her about being a kid.] "Stop looking down on me, will you? I heard a lot of stuff about science in my past workplace, you know! I'm probably a lot older than you in actual age, too!"

  • [Explaining how she believes the Library is better than her old workplace.] "Back in Lobotomy Corp, employees were quite literally expendables. Like in all the other corporations. But here, no librarian is left behind, at the very least. No one is left behind."

  • [Hanging out with some of her patron librarians; teasing Chesed for trying to give reasons why he wants them to hang out.] "It's true, we'd usually be shut up in our own floors doing our jobs if it weren't for break. Maybe he doesn't have any other excuses?"

Gebura is the patron librarian of the Floor of Language. In her past life, she was a powerful Color Fixer known as the Red Mist, and ultimately died trying to protect her friends. Though she was once filled with violence and hatred, she has since learned how to focus her anger and acts almost like a big sister towards some of the other librarians, protecting them as best as she can.

For this role, I'm looking for a low voice. Gebura is definitely a very masculine woman and her voice should reflect that; she should sound tough, yet caring and intelligent. There's a point in the game where you get to meet a recreation of Gebura's past self, Kali, but she acts pretty much the same way, so there shouldn't be any line or delivery changes needed.

Voice description:
  • female adult
  • [Introducing herself to Roland.] "You see, I have some experience as a Fixer in my first life. I can get a rough estimate of a Fixer just from their looks. And you're definitely more than just some clumsy Grade 9."

  • [Reminiscing on her past life.] "I wouldn't say my neighbors had their hearts in the right place, but some of the adults there were kinda nice to me. Although they'd usually be gone without a trace or end up rolling around in the street with their limbs chopped off next morning."

  • [Reassuring Hod that conversing with Binah is okay.] "Come on, have some confidence. You look even smaller than usual. She's not the person you remember in your past, at least not anymore."

Role assigned to: Garfunkel VO

Chesed is the patron librarian of the floor of Social Sciences. Once a fancy gentleman named Daniel, he joined the Seed of Light project after being accidentally kidnapped by Kali, and died during the Arbiter's assault later on. He's a very likable and friendly individual, having a strong love for coffee and a laid-back, teasing demeanor. He was best known as someone who always tried to keep his employees (and now his librarians) alive.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium voice. Very chill like Netzach, but in a more friendly and open way, with a hint of playfulness to it. Chesed's tone doesn't really change at any point in the game, so he doesn't require too many shifts or variance.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [Introducing himself to Roland.] "Back when we were at a laboratory in the Outskirts... the mood was upbeat, for a while. It was just a shabby laboratory situated in a corner of the Outskirts, but for me, it was cozier than any luxurious place in the City could be."

  • [Explaining coffee to Roland.] "The tastes of coffee aren't all the same. It's determined by a number of factors. Starting with where it was grown, how long it's roasted... when you stop extracting the flavor and how finely the coffee beans are ground also play an important part."

  • [Explaining to Angela why he's hanging out with other Librarians.] "I was having some coffee with these two ladies~ Then they suddenly brought us here, saying they'd like to return the favor. Isn't that a surprise?"

Binah

Role assigned to: Kunimori Leo

Binah is the patron librarian of the Floor of Philosophy. She was the Arbiter that attacked the old L Corp, ultimately delivering a mutual kill with Kali before the two were reborn. Binah has softened a bit since the events of Lobotomy Corporation, though she is by no means a good person; while she's very polite and reasonable to most, she can be quite sinister... if you can understand her through her long-winded philosophical musings.

For this role, I'm looking for a low voice with a wise, elegant tone to it. Binah should always sound like she knows what's going on, and being able to deliver her grandiose speeches with an undertone of sadism is key to the character. Worth noting - if you're interested in this role, there will be a role later down the line that is VERY similar to her, so keep an eye out for that!

Voice description:
  • female adult
  • [Asking Roland about the Library.] "What is the Library from what you have seen? Is it a place of death, nourishing its thirst with blood... Is it a spire of knowledge, accumulating all sorts of information... Or is it perhaps an ark, sailing for a new life?"

  • [Gently chastising Roland.] "You appear to be under the impression that the City stole your ordinary and humble happiness. Have you never inflicted pain upon others or taken anything from them, then?"

  • [Arguing with Chesed over tea being better than coffee.] "It is quite a shame to know that such is the pitiable hill you choose to die on. Perhaps your tongue has been paralyzed by the overbearingly thick, strong flavor and scent."

Hokma

Role assigned to: Tsubaki.VA.

Hokma is the patron librarian for the Floor of Religion. He was a man named Benjamin who worked as the right-hand man of Angela's creator Ayin, and is still incredibly devoted to him even after he was reborn as Hokma. He's initially very cold and abrasive to most people, especially Angela, but he's a wise, caring figure deep down and helps to guide Angela towards changing for the better after her trauma.

For this role, I'm looking for an older low-medium voice - wise like Binah, but less polite and more serious. Hokma is a very grim character who's still incredibly devoted to Ayin even after Ayin's long gone. However, he is capable of being an intelligent mentor figure; I've included a line to showcase that side of him.

Voice description:
  • male senior
  • [Introducing himself to Roland.] "There was a man named Ayin, who founded Lobotomy Corporation and created Angela. I had faith in him. Everyone carries some form of faith or belief; in my case, I believed that what he sought to do was the right thing."

  • [Talking about Ayin's failure.] "Having sent my great and dear beacon away in the pillar of light, and having failed to give a proper closure to his ultimate plan, all I have left now is ferocity."

  • [Helping Angela to realize that she has something left in her life besides revenge.] "In this vast void of life, the only compass one can rely on is faith. Without faith, you cannot proceed; even if there is a way. And every person seeks their own version of the single perfect book... that must exist somewhere."
