WARD UNIVERSITY: YEAR TWO (Sims 4 Machinima VO Series)

Project Overview

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE AUDITIONING!!!

Most of the characters in my series are queer and/or POC. Please refrain from auditioning if you're racist, sexist, transphobic, or homophobic - we wouldn't work well together.

GENERAL INFO

"WARD UNIVERSITY: YEAR TWO" is the 2nd season of my Sims 4 machinima YouTube series. It follows the lives of the students of Ward University, an art school for celebrities in training.

·         This season will be around 20 episodes in length (haven't finished writing it yet so I don't have a precise number as of yet, it might be a little more).

·         The rating is 18+ (violence, heavy themes, intimacy).

·         The genre is drama with a dash of comedy.

·         SUPPORTING ROLES are for characters that have an important impact in the overall story, and will have a decent amount of scenes throughout the series.

·         MINOR ROLES are for characters that, while having an impact in the story, will make more sporadic appearances - only featuring in a few episodes, with a reduced amount of lines.

·         Some of the characters will have ACCENT requirements: these are actually just suggestions, and I will consider auditions that don't include any of the specific accents. Please refrain from imitating POC accents if you're white <3

·         If you have range, consider auditioning for more than one role and try out a few different voices! I like casting the same VA multiple times for smaller roles, as the cast is huge already and the more people join the more complicated my life gets haha

REQUIREMENTS

Just a few things to keep in mind before auditioning.

·         The scripts for the first 6 episodes should be ready by the time the auditions close. We will be recording in chunks so I can film in advance, so expect to have to record more than episode at a time (the deadline will be pretty long, so don't worry too much about that). During this process, it's important for me (the director) to be easily able to reach out to you and viceversa. I personally prefer working on Discord, so if you do have an account that you use regularly, please include your Discord name in your audition. If not, we will need to find another reliable means of communication.

·         I know this is an unpaid project so I don't expect much when it comes to quality of recording, but I will still evaluate the quality of your microphone when I listen to your auditions: make sure to audition using the microphone and set up you will be using when recording for the actual series.

·         Entering the cast of Ward University is a long term commitment. Making machinima takes time, especially when you don't make any money out of it and you have to work a regular job, so please refrain from auditioning if you're unsure about whether you'll be staying - recasting is a pain and slows the whole process even more!!!

Role assigned to: Shykodah-Khi ✦

Mean, Impulsive, Headstrong

Sam is a scrappy young woman (early 20s) who really doesn't like being told what to do and has no chill when it comes to personal boundaries in relationships. She has an anxious attachment style to the few people that she gets along with, and can become a bit aggressive when she feels those relationships are being threatened.

Pronouns: she/her

Voice type: I feel like her pitch would be low to mid, I really can't picture her with a higher pitched voice - she's pretty masc leaning. I'd like her to have a british, irish, or scottish accent, but if that's not in your wheelhouse that's fine too <3

  • (cold, feeling the sting of rejection) No, I get it. I just thought you’d be happy to see me either way. Dumb of me to think, I know—

  • (fake amusement, jealousy) Damn, that girl just won’t leave you alone! She’s like, *desperate* for attention.

Flippant, Intense, Vengeful

Aileen Pai is the new Film professor at Ward University. She's in her early to mid 40s, has a lot of experience under her belt and knows how to make people respect her - as well as fear her, though it's not necessarily her go-to teaching method. She has more patience for her students than her colleagues.

Pronouns: she/her
Voice type: I don't have a specific accent or voice range in mind, but I do think it's important that her experience and confidence are reflected in the way she talks. She should sound like a force to be reckoned with.

  • (instructing her students) Over there. No, not there… yes. Perfect. Can we make this a little faster? (annoyed) Thank you.

  • (proud) It’s an exposé on the dangers of “dance culture”, and how a toxic environment can negatively impact students and hinder their learning curve in the long run.

  • (angry, deeply hurt) Don’t you DARE say that again.

Charming, Cocky, Twisted

Max is a student at Ward University. In his early 20s, he's playful with a hint of darkness beneath. There's clearly something wrong with him - if only we knew exactly WHAT. He definitely knows how to get under people's skin.

Pronouns: he/him
Voice type: he speaks in a very alluring manner, as if he's always trying to seduce people into liking him - that doesn't always have to be inherently sexual. He rarely takes things seriously.

Language:

  • (playful) Will you stop ignoring me? Pretty please?

  • (cheeky, smiling, talking about an "acquaintances with benefits") It’s fiiine. We can still have fun, as long as we’re clear about what’s going on between us.

  • (mocking in a condescending tone) You’re so creepy when you get all possessive. You know that, right? It turns people off. Probably why you don’t have any friends.

Flirty, Fun, Just a Lil Dumb

Jake (early 20s) has lived a tough life so far, but he doesn't let it get the better of him. He's a jokester, and generally in a good mood, which makes him look a bit superficial and downright idiotic at times - especially when he's trying too hard to look like a Bad Boy™️

Pronouns: he/him
Voice type: His voice pitch should be mid to low, but he should still sound expressive and energetic.

Harsh, Haunted, Aloof

Eva is a Dance professor at Ward University (early 40s). She's grown a lot as a character during season 1 - starting the year off as "the mean professor" and ending it with a little more insight on why she acts the way she does. She's still not perfect by any means, but at this point it's very clear that a lot of her worst behaviours are an attempt at self preservation and she's slowly doing the work to improve her relationship with her students.

Pronouns: she/her
Voice type: Since this is a recast, I will post two links of character defining moments from S1 below, so you can get to know Eva a little better :))) I really loved her previous VA and was very sad to not be able to contact her for S2. I don't expect the new VA to mimic her voice to a T, but I still want to keep a little consinstency.

Role assigned to: 999_VA

Cringe, Kindhearted, Romantic

Lex is a Music professor at Ward University. He's in his early 50s, but looks a bit younger in appearance - as well as mental development, lol. He used to be a famous actor, but ruined his career when he dabbled into music and had to beg Judith Ward - who is also his ex and the mother of his daughter - for a job at the school. He's doing better now - he has a new partner and is slowly gaining back some confidence - but he still has a lot of growth to do.

Pronouns: he/him
Voice type: Since this is a recast, I will post a link to Lex's introductory scene from S1 below, so you can get to know him a little better :))) I really loved what his previous VA did with him but I don't expect the new VA to mimic his voice necessarily, I just want to keep a little consinstency. He wasn't that important of a character in season 1, but I'm looking to include him in more scenes from now on. I would also suggest watching episode 14 of the show, specifically the scenes that include Candy (his daughter) and Judith Ward, to get more info about his backstory. It's a little silly, but I think it's fun <:)

  • (trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter, a bit desperate) I understand if you’re not ready for this conversation at the moment, but… (rummages through pockets) Will you please call me when you are? It’s my number.

Role assigned to: Dria

Empathetic, Quick-Witted, Just generally a GOOD PERSON

Yaritza Mabry (early 50s) has had a lot of career changes since the beginning of the series. First she was a Music professor at Ward University, then became a private therapist after she was fired (she had a psych degree that she wasn't using apparently lolol). NOW she's back at Ward University as a school counsellor figure of sorts, but she's not happy. She's clearly only here because she knows the students need her, as the school hasn't been very supportive of their mental health so far. Sadly, the students don't seem too interested in their own mental health either, and she's struggling to get them to talk to her at all.

Pronouns: she/her

Maybe a group setting would be closer to what they’re used to. (frustrated) But it’s very complicated to imagine a support group inside a school where… well… there wouldn’t even be a pretense of privacy, would it? They all know each other!

Clever, Awkward, Goofy

Marie (mid 30s) is a Simlish Lit professor at Ward University. She is a bit of a mess, clearly doesn't have her life figured out, but is very passionate about her subject and sporadically offers her students really great advice - when she manages to get the words out.

Pronouns: she/her
Voice type: Marie is generally tense and insecure, so that should come out in her speech patterns, but it shouldn't be overdone to a grotesque degree. She is also very minute and could easily be mistaken for a student, so I wouldn't mind if her pitch were on the higher side, making her seem younger than she really is - but not too childish either!

Ambitious, Outgoing, Self-centered

Penny (mid 20s) became famous as an influencer before landing a lead role on the sit-com "Honey, I'm Home", a family friendly shows set in an idyllic, suburban version of the 1950s. She is generally very open and likable - she is very beloved by her fans - but her celebrity status can make her entitled. She definitely enjoys the spotlight and being the center of attention whenever she can.

Pronouns: she/her
Voice type: The character Penny plays in the sit-com, Honey, is a sassy housewife with a stereotyped transatlantic accent, so for this role it's important to be somehow able to mimic that. It would be different from her regular accent, which I immagine could be a Californian accent but that's not mandatory.

  • (transatlantic accent) Sugar, would you be a darling and fetch us a couple more drinks? It’s gettin’ hot out here.

  • (in her regular accent, during an interview) I don’t think you can teach certain things. I’m not trying to dunk on schools that claim that, trust me, I’m not! But I think, at its finest, art is something that comes from within.

Brazen, Determined, Distrustful

Mia (early 30s) grew up in a foster home and now feels responsible for the children who grew up with her, even though the age difference isn't as significant as she makes it seem. She is very bossy and short tempered with her "little siblings", but she cares deeply about them and is always on the lookout for any harm that might come their way.

Pronouns: she/her
Voice type: I think the main point she wants to get through to people is how extremely tough she is. Is that a facade? Only a little bit. She IS a badass. Because she had to be.

Imani (50s) is the new Creative Writing professor at Ward University. She is extremely stoic and creates an aura of respect around her, acting as a great role model for her students - which is something they've been sorely lacking so far.

Pronouns: she/her

  • (to her students) As writers, we sometimes fall into a rabbit hole of adding insignificant details to our stories: this often results in a disappointed audience whose expectations haven’t been met in the slightest. Or conversely, we can make the audience feel cheated when elements that prove important during the climax have not been adequately foreshadowed.

  • (firm, direct, relentless) You have no clear understanding of the medium you’re working with. You have interesting thoughts, which is a luck to have in the first place, but you don’t do anything interesting *with* them. You just let them float. Zero grasp of the concept of metaphor, you let your ideas and what you want to say guide you, with little to no consideration for the actual story. Your writing reads like a pamphlet.
