Just Beyond the Horizon is a sci-fi/fantasy mini series that is about a human from a futuristic Earth that gets stranded on a mysterious planet called "Dussur" (pronunciation described below). With help from a local named Pash, he must find a way back home while overcoming the strange creatures of this world. The series is HEAVILY inspired by Over the Garden Wall, Scavenger’s Reign, and Princess Mononoke. Although this series IS definitely an audio drama, it is written in a book like fashion. Therefore this series will have a great deal of description and internal dialogue given by the main character: Menno. The series will consist of 9 episodes that are on average 15-20 minutes long, with episodes being posted on Spotify and YouTube.
Compensation includes a fixed amount of payment given for the entire project and IMDb credits. Payment will be issued through PayPal.

Audition Rules:
You may audition for as many roles as you would like.
You may record up to 3 takes of each line.
Please put them in AABBCC format.
You must be 18+ to audition.
No experience is required.
You must have little to no background noise.
You must be okay doing this project long term.
Submissions that use AI will not be accepted.

The series incorporates Christian values into its story. If you are not comfortable with being a part of a series that incorporates Christian elements please do not audition (you don’t need to be a Christian to audition, you just have to be okay with those elements being in the story).

Hiya Folks! I just wanted to make a quick update saying that I am narrowing down roles now, but haven't chosen them quite yet. (But I will soon!)
That being said, I want y'all know how hard you are making this decision process, YOU'RE ALL SO TALENTED! If you are not chosen for a role, it's obviously not personal, I have a very specific vision and if you didn't get picked its not because you're not talented, there might have just been someone else who fit the vision a little more.

A 17 year old assistant engineer who works on a space station orbiting Earth’s Sun. He is smart, but is not the most confident and is a people pleaser. Overall, he is afraid of failure, and doesn't like to get out of his comfort zone.
The vibe I am going for is something like Wirt from Over the Garden Wall (Example) or Connie from early Steven Universe (Example).

(NOTE: Menno has A LOT of lines as this story will be told from his perspective and will incorporate a lot of internal dialogue. Think of it like reading out a story for an audio book with many of his lines)
(Thankful but still confused)“Okay…well, what is that thing…thank you for saving me by the way, but what the heck is that thing you just stabbed in the eye?”
(Internal dialogue) “*sigh* Why did I have to follow that thing? It was clearly not friendly, I mean, it didn’t even look human. I am such an idiot. I am so stupid.”
(freaking out a little bit)“What if that means that I have to spend the rest of my time there knowing I can’t do the ONE thing I went there to do? W-what if I realize that I spent three years away from home for absolutely nothing?”
An about 18 year old local of Dussur (her age is somewhat unknown). She is the deuteragonist and will be helping Menno on his journey home. She is stern, but pleasant when she needs to be. She also keeps a chill demeanor but is still a bad-ass.
The vibe I want is something similar to San from Princess Mononoke (Example) (tough but still caring).

“Well, there is a village not too far from here. They have food, supplies, and probably know how to get you where you need to go. I can take you there if you'd like?”
“It’s a Living Island. It must have set up camp here, waiting for the inhabitants of the village to come back. We need to get out of here!”
(tired and annoyed) “It’s already morning? *sigh* Screw it, I don’t care if we lose daylight, I’m getting some sleep.”
Viatris is an older Dussurian (in her 40s-50s) who is the matriarch of one of the last surviving towns on the planet. She is an inventor and the mother of Pash. She loves her daughter and just wants the best for her, but at the moment their relationship is a bit strained. Think of Mrs. Weasley but more of a leader.
The narrator will be in charge of reading out the opening and ending credits, as well as a few other lines sprinkled throughout the series.
I want the narrator's vibe to be similar to the opening prologue from LOTR (Example).

(Narrator)“We live in a grand universe. A methodical splash of colorful paint within a black canvas. But in the shadows of this existence lie strange and unforgiving lands, one of which is named: Dussur. Dussur is a land where reality breaks down to unleash ideas and creatures that have no other place in the cosmos.”
(Excited)“This new innovation will help protect our people and the people of every village on Dussur. I present to you all: our new muskets.”
(Hopeful and Motherly)“Good luck Menno, and Pash…I hope you will visit again sometime soon. Maybe next time we can have a feast to celebrate your apprenticeship.”
An ancient being who rules over the planet and acts as the main antagonist for the series. He is a tall and lanky telepathic creature who is the death of all hope for those he encounters. He is cunning, persuasive, and pure evil.
Try to make the character sound like the Lich from Adventure Time (Example), or the Beast from Over the Garden Wall (Example).
“Nothing. Nothing that you aren’t already willing to give away. I must say that you are younger than most of those who land here. But I believe fate is what brought you to me.”
(In a whisper) "Worthless…hated…unlovable…putrid…”
(Getting angry) "Be quiet! All of you are leeches and have defiled my name for the final time.
A cunning humanoid creature that is a snake from the waste down. He is someone who uses secrets as a form of payment and has no allegiance to anyone. He is only looking out for himself. He also uses mechanical scraps to keep himself alive.
I want a slimy vibe for this character; something similar to General Grievous (Example) or Loki (Example).

(still waking up) “You got a lot of nerve to come into my home without an invitation.”
“My my, that is quite the request. Few have ever asked me the location of such a sacred place. Well, if that is the knowledge you desire, I CAN give it to you. But first, what secret do you offer me in exchange?”
“What a fascinating work of ingenuity. Oh! And what's this? Is this sack how she powers it?”
A middle aged Dussurian who is the leader of the Butcher's cult. She is obsessed with order, looking as favored as possible, and is a bit of a coward. She worships the Butcher but all her faith is based on fear. She will do anything to be looked on kindly by the Butcher and her followers.
“Oh, dear child…you are home. And with your help, we are going to get the gratitude from our master that we deserve.”
“You!? You're supposed to be tied up! The Butcher will be here at any moment!”
(scared and reverent)“Master! All of us have devoted our lives to you, and have done everything we can to serve you, oh great king.”
A large rat-like reality warping creature. They’re a mischievous creature who loves to mess with people, and never gets caught. Think of them as the Cheshire cat of Dussur.
(I want a higher pitch)
*mischievous laughter* "Did you two like the little detour I sent you on?”
(frustrated)“That's something else, you people are so obsessed with staying alive, and having all your fluids inside your bodies. Trying not to be so stiff sometimes.”
A middle aged woman who is the head of the news department on a space station orbiting Earth’s Sun. She is kind, positive, and very easy to talk to.
She has a similar vibe to Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec(Example) (but less chaotic).

“Hmmmm, that could work. If you can tell me what benefits you were able to find, then I would love to approve it for next week.”
“Oh, okay, then what can I help you with…uh, sorry I don’t think I got your name.”
“That's amazing, I’ll have to do a more in-depth interview with you when you get back so I can get all the juicy details.”
A middle aged man who is burned out and doesn't really care about his job. He works as the Maintenance Department’s manager on one of the space stations orbiting around Earth’s Sun. He is not necessarily a bad person, but rather just someone who wants to get his job done and go home.
His vibe should be similar to Ivan from Day Job (Example) or Benson from Regular Show (Example).

(Frustrated) “I swear. If I hear about one more employee getting electrocuted by sticking a metal straw into a socket I am going to kick someone’s ass.”
“Good. Now, before you clock out for the day I am going to need you to run these new power cords over to Station 23. They had a blow out earlier today. Just take one of our department’s shuttles over there, and I want you clocked out as soon as you hand over those cords. Capeesh?”
You will provide the sounds for many of the alien creatures that the main characters encounter on their journey. This includes, but is not limited to: a giant crab, a humanoid plant creature, and a humming cloaked figure.
