Invisible Wings - interactive visual novel / narrative adventure game
Project Overview
Narrative:
Invisible Wings is a narrative adventure game that takes the player on a journey in a dystopian fantasy setting.
Follow Dawn, a young woman of faerie descent, as she tries to find answers to her own identity in a modern world where faeries and humans were supposed to live in harmony. Being bullied and harassed most of her life because of her appearance she wants nothing more than just being an ordinary human. Although she blames her magical ancestors for all her problems, she meets a faerie herself, who grows more than a friend to her and complicates her quest even further.
Explore the vibrant and diverse city of Ceylynn in an interactive audiovisual novel, characterized by recognizable characters, a rich world full of lore and a memorable adaptive soundtrack.
About:
Hey everyone! I'm currently in the process of graduating from my study music & technology, where I specialize in game audio design. Because I'm interested in making music for narrative games, I decided to create a demo of a visual novel as my graduation project, which is called Invisible Wings. The demo will be around 15 minutes long and features the first act of the story of Dawn. It will be available for free when development is finished (around June this year), I'll try to release the game on itch.io and Steam. Also in the future I plan to extend this demo into a fully fledged visual novel, where it would be preferable to have the same voice actors, but nothing on this plan is definite yet.
I'm working with a talented artist and script writer to fully work out the setting and story, but to really let the characters live I'm also looking for voice actors! Since this is a student project all of my budget comes out of my student loan, but I at least want to refund some of your time!
Some scenes from the script are already finished, but some of them are still in development. When you're casted I aim to send you all final lines at the beginning of May at last, but I can already provide you with lines for finished scenes right away. Ultimate deadline for sending in the recordings is May 17th (depending of when auditions are finished).
Voice acting rules:
- Please make sure your audio is sounding nice and professional (use a decent microphone, no clipping noises, minimum room reverb, the usual things).
- Please record in 48 kHz, 16 bit, mono WAV format.
- I'm aiming for a realistic vibe concerning voice acting, so I prefer natural voices.
- The suggested lines I provided at the characters are taken from the concept of the script, but feel free to add your own lines as you see fit.
- Contact with voice actors can be via mail or Discord.
- Payment via PayPal.

Aranea's name
Hi everyone, thanks so far for all your auditions! I wanted to note a thing about the pronunciation of Aranea's name. The name Aranea comes from Latin and means "spider". In my head I was aiming for a pronunciation close to its roots, so something like “ah-rah-NAY-ah” (or /ˌɑ.ɹɑ.ˈneɪ.ɑ/ if you can read IPA). If you did an audition with another pronunciation that of course doesn't mean that you're out of the race at all! Keep up the good work! :)

Dawn is a young female hybrid with one great wish: to be just an ordinary human. For years she has constantly been confronted with her appearance and heritage, even although she looks more human than other hybrids. She blames the faerie species for being an outcast in the human-dominated world and desperately tries to seek answers to her identity, but with little luck so far. It also doesn’t help that racism even went so far to not letting faeries and hybrids participate in official sport events, which clashes with Dawn’s great passion for figure skating, but these issues only seem the beginning of Dawn’s journey…
Dawn is quite a fragile and hesitant character, it would be nice to reflect that in her voice!
(sad and irritated) My stupid tail won’t cooperate, I can’t tuck it away properly. If they find out I have a tail, they will disqualify me right away!
(shocked) What if Lilith really had no wings?! I've said such ugly things to her, Aranea! She just came to tell me that she was impressed by my performance.
(hesitant) I don’t know… it just doesn’t feel right. I’d rather forget this whole thing as soon as possible.

Being a faerie seems to be quite hard in a world dominated by human beliefs, especially for a social butterfly like Lilith. Few know however that she tries to cope with a past experience that forced her to leave her faerie tribe, giving her a dreamy, restless and sometimes impulsive personality. She tries to disguise this mental scar by being nice to everyone, but not always with success. Luckily Lilith has the advantage of possessing magic to hide her wings and tail from plain sight, something that also proves to be useful to enter the figure skating competition.
I imagined Lilith's voice to be soft and somewhat hoarse. Also she's full of enthousiasm, which also may reflect in her voice.
(shocked, hesitant) I- I’m sorry, I didn’t know you could see my wings. It really wasn’t my intention to distract you.
Thanks, but I understand, really. You’re not the first and certainly not the last person to fall out to me like that. I seem to have that effect on people...

Katherine Tole
Strongly led by her own ideals, Aranea is an ambitious hybrid who fights for equal rights for hybrids and a halt to the racism they undergo. She feels however a great resentment towards faeries, because in her opinion they took away a blissful future for her own species. Aranea proves to be a good friend for Dawn by giving her support in her figure skating journey, but her own ideals seem conflicting with Dawn’s personal wish and maybe even with common moral sense...
Aranea is a more serious (and a bit older) character than the other two, which should reflect in her voice. She also likes to be sarcastic in her comments.
Your tail is a part of you, Dawn. You can’t live without it, just as you can’t live without your legs.
*sigh* Alright, quick recap. There are two kinds of magic. Anyone who descended from the nymphs, so every faerie and hybrid, possesses passive magic. So do the both of us.
(slightly irritated) You’re not starting to feel sorry for her now, are you?
